It looks like these days Indian cinema is undergoing a sea change, where themes and roles which were considered as bee's hornet in the past, are now growing as inevitable fascinations of our B-Town biggies,who are embracing the bold concepts and characters with unfolded hands.
One such theme of celluloid, that had always been like a cinder for moral police is homosexuality, but now it looks like our B-Town biggies have reaped ample courage to showcase this burning concept on the big screen.
So let's have a look at a few sagas pertaining to homosexuality which shows that finally Bollywood has divorced its inhibition for homosexuality.
1. Ban Gayi Baat: Gulshan Grover
After proving his mantle in various avatars, now the Badman of Bollywood, Gullu will be seen portraying the character of a gay in Shuja Ali's upcoming cine flick Ban Gayi Baat.If reports are to be believed then in this movie Gulshan will be seen playing seven different characters.
2. Student of The Year : Rishi Kapoor
Reports even suggest that, in the much talked about comedy flick of KJo, Student of The Year, scheduled to release in the later part of the year, RK senior aka Rishi Kapoor will also be seen in the robe of a homosexual character Dean Yoginder Vashisht3. Dunno Y..Na Jaane Kyon
Well it's not that the theme homosexuality has just started picking up in the tinsel town, actually in the recent past number of cine flicks sans industry A-graders also showcased this human trait.Very recently Sanjay Sharma's cine flick Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyon, based on concept MSM, too hit the celluloid and thoroughly stirred the homosexuality debate podiums.
4. Dostana
Another saga knitted around the plot of homosexuality that redefined the the concept of homosexuality with a pinch of humor is Abhishek and John starrer Dostana.The movie received a good amount of accolades for the outstanding performances of dashing duo Abhishek and John along with gorgeous Priyanka Chopra.
5. Girlfriend
When Karan Rajdan directed cine flick Girlfriend starring Isha Koppikar and Amrita Arora, with a plot en-rooted in lesbianism, made it to silver screen, it ignited a nation wide debate about the prevalence of homosexuality in Indian society.On release the provocative poster of the movie even invited the wrath of the masses for its exceptionally bold content.
6. Fire
The movie which deserves to be credited for the onset of concept homosexuality in Bollywood is Deepa Mehta's Fire.In the movie Shabana Azmi and Nandita Dass tried to confront the masses, with the existence of homosexuality in Indian culture.
When Fire was released certain groups staged several protests, setting off a flurry of public dialogue around the issue of homosexuality.
7. Bomgay and Mango Souffle
Two other flicks based on the homosexuality which went unnoticed despite being hardcore homosexuality sagas are Rahul Bose starrer Bomgay and Mahesh Dattani's Mango Souffle.And the reasons for their going unnoticed are obvious, the less awareness of the masses about the controversial stance of homosexuality and casting of cine world's B-graders.
