I felt Deepika could do justice to Veronica-Imtia

Deepika Padukone has stunned everyone with her entry shot in Cocktail's promos. She is looking simply stunning and hot. And, her look in the promo is drawing a lot of eyeballs for sure.

Cocktail has been a very special project for Dips, right from the beginning. Deepika was the first person Imtiaz Ali, the writer of Cocktail and her director in Love Aaj Kal, thought of while writing the film.

Imtiaz Ali was very keen on Deepika playing the character of Veronica and not Meera. He felt Meera's character in Cocktail was very close to the Meera of Love Aaj Kal. Imtiaz Ali offered Deepika both the roles, Veronica and Meera and asked her to choose.

Even when Homi Adajania joined the project as the director, Deepika was given a choice to select either of the two characters. The actress understood why both Imtiaz Ali and Homi Adajania were keen on her playing the part of Veronica in the film.

Veronica is a very different and bold character that Deepika has never played before.

Imtiaz Ali explains, "I felt only Deepika Padukone could do justice to Veronica. While Dinesh (producer), Homi (director) and myself had given her a choice of both characters, we wanted her to take up the challenge of playing Veronica and Deepika chose to take up this challenge by finally playing the role of Veronica in the film."
