Balaji Telefilms, Ektaa Kapoor's television production house, is all set to cover new ground with an entry into the non-fiction genre.
Balaji will be producing two non-fiction shows for Zoom, the soon-to-be-launched premium celebrity channel from the Times Group.
Commenting on the move, Ms Kapoor said, "Balaji Telefilms has been identified with good, successful television programming. The extension into non-fiction was a natural progression, especially because it's one of the evolving high-growth genres on Indian television."
The first of the Balaji programs on Zoom, 'Kosmiic Chat', is an astrology show by renowned celebrity astrologer Sunita Menon.
The show will be hosted by the gorgeous Simone Singh. Several top-notch celebrities swear by Ms Menon's predictions, including Ms Kapoor herself.
The show will include celebrity forecasts, tarot readings and viewer interactions. Not surprisingly, Ms Kapoor is confident of the concept.
"It is a show that will generate a lot of positive vibes. The show is as much about hope and aspiration, as it is about astrology."
Ms Menon, looking forward to her debut on the small screen, said, "Kosmiic Chat presents me with the unique opportunity of touching the lives of millions of people.
I will consider the show successful if I can fill the heart of even one person with love and warmth."
The second show, called 'Kyaa Kahein', is a docu-drama presented by the enigmatic Irrfan of 'Maqbool' and 'Haasil' fame. It showcases true stories based on supernatural and paranormal experiences.
Upbeat about his return to the small screen, Irrfan said, "When Ektaa approached me with this concept, I knew I had to do it.
I strongly believe there are things out there that do not have a rational explanation. This show is based on such true stories, but with a very stylised treatment."
Ms Kapoor averred, "Each story that we present in this show is well researched and documented. A series of elaborate checks will be done before we finalise our stories.
Our research team will be meeting the actual people involved in the incidents covered in the show. Irrfan himself will personally interact with some of them." Zoom hits TV screens in the second half of August
