CALL FROM CELL 6.6
Chapter 12
"Hello, this is Dr Gowrikar's office. Can I speak to Mr Arnav Singh Raizada?"
Dr Gowrikar? Puzzled Khushi stared at the phone, her eyes narrowed. She had never heard Arnav mentioning of a Dr Gowrikar. He had his personal physician who paid visits on requests. Moreover why would he want to see a doctor? Is he ill? Panic stricken Khushi gripped the phone hard, her knuckles turning white as she tried to process a coherent sentence.
"Why? Why does he have to see a doctor?" She blurted out not caring how crude the question might sound to the person on the other end.
"I'm sorry ma'am. It's confidential. I'm not allowed to speak of our patient's personal details" the voice was cool and sharp with a hint of disdain.
"I'm his wife!" Khushi heard herself snap back, bristling in indignation.
"I'm sorry again ma'am. If Mr Raizada has decided not to share the details with you, we are in no position to override his wishes. Giving out personal details is against our policy." The voice sounded patronising, as if mocking her for not being in her husband's confidential list.
There was silence at the other end while Khushi tried to process what she just heard. He's keeping secrets from her; secrets regarding his health. She felt a cold prickling feeling of ill omen running through her spine and all reason slipped out of her head. Right now she needed to get to the bottom of this, hook or crook. After all she wasn't the wife of a shrewd businessman for nothing if she hadn't learnt a few tricks from her husband. If Arnav was hiding something from her, it was a sure sign of him heading for one of his irrational decisions. There could be something seriously wrong with him, but if she asked him directly he would point blank refuse to tell her.
This was a time she had to put her female intuitions to good use.
"Good day to you ma'am"
"Wait!" Khushi found her voice just in time."Can I know where your office is situated?"
"Good day to you ma'am" She could practically hear the disdain dripping from his voice and giving her a sardonic smile from the other end. There was a click from the other end and Khushi fumed inwardly as she realized the phone was disconnected.
Pursing her lips into a prominent thin line she glared at the phone once before reaching under the polished teek table where the extension phone resided and extracted the phone directory. Really? So he thinks she could be put off that easily? That's not how Khushi Khumari Guptha Singh Raizada worked.
15 minutes later she had jotted down six Dr Gowrikars practising in Delhi.
Vikram Gowrikar, Nishantha Gowrikar, Rima Singh Gowrikar, Gautum Gowrikar, S H Gowrikar and Rishik Gowrikar
Now to track down the right one. Khushi racked her brain for the easiest route to find the right Gowrikar without having to go to each doctor and demanding to know about their patients which in that case would take her nowhere since all would refuse to hand out information regarding their patients.
Caller ID! Raizada household phones can be revived to check caller history and IDs.
Khushi hurriedly took the phone and browsed back to the last incoming call and noted the number before turning to the list of Dr Gowrikars and scanning for the identical number. She put the list down in disappointment. The number wasn't there. Maybe the doctor's office had multiple numbers and the one listed might not necessarily be the main office number.
Khushi redialled the number without thinking and realising her mistake, was about to disconnect the phone when she heard the crisp cold male voice answering the phone.
"Dr Gautum Gowrikar's office. How may I help you?"
Khushi ended the call with a shaking press of the button. Dr Gautum Gawrikar. That's all she needed as she rushed upstairs to get her hand bag. She has some sleuthing to do this morning.

"Thank you Ritesh ji, now could you take me to the Central Library?" Khushi asked as she sat down on the car. Ritesh was one of the Raizada house's trusted drivers.
"Of course ma'am"
Half an hour later Khushi had found the book she wanted. Maybe she should learn how to use the computer. Soma the librarian had said finding information through this medium is long past it's time.
"Thanks Ritesh ji. Now to the Ashram please"

"I had told you once and I will not be repeating myself. I need the report on texture analysis on my table before tomorrow noon" Arnav said softly into the phone, his voice at it's deadliest. "I don't want any excuses. Make it happen." he slammed the phone back on the receiver and turned to Dutta, head of distribution unit, a portly man in his early forties who was regarding him with trepidation.
"Sir shouldn't we be informing the head of quality control on the new changes?" the man stammered sounding petrified. ASR was at his element today; cold as a chip of ice, his eyes glinting in an almost manic light.
"Mr Mehta had done enough damage already. I had received 5 complaints and each one says the same thing. I don't' think his input would be of any use now."
"Sir there could have been a mix up in shipment order. There could have been a mistake." breathed Mr Dutta.
"That is why I hire employees. To over see that there are no mistakes" Arnav paced on his office, his voice laced with anger. "A mistake of this enormity is unpardonable. Call all the supervising heads to a board meeting in three hours. And send in Bhatt. You're dismissed"
His cell phone rang shrilly and he picked it up barely concealing his irritation at being disturbed at such an inconvenient time. "Yes" he said softly, the danger in his voice barely disguised and Mr Dutta felt sorry for who ever the person at the receiving end. But it certainly felt nice to be not on the receiving end for a change.
"I can't make it to the appointment." There was silence while he listened to the other end.
"Well it's not my problem. You cannot re-schedule appointments at your convenience. I'm a very busy man and I plan my schedule in advance. If this is the illogical coordination I'm being treated with, rest assured I can easily change doctors."
There was another silence.
"Good" was the final curt reply from ASR before Mr Dutta was forced to abandon his quest of getting satisfaction from hearing someone else get blasted by ASR and left to get Mr Bhatt.

"EEEwww I hate frogs!" Nilla squealed as Khushi narrated how the princess kept a frog in her room.
There was a collective agreement from the children surrounding her as they listened to her, narrating the fairy-tale.
"But the frog helped her get back the golden ball from the pond. Isn't that nice of him?"
"But he's slimy and he croaks" said Tisha with a shudder.
"Ah but you shouldn't judge someone based on looks. The frog was after all a Prince and he's very nice. Now if princess didn't kiss the frog, she would never have found the prince trapped with the curse of the evil witch."
The children nodded in agreement at this. "What happened after that?"
"We'll see what happens when I come the nest time" Khushi winked at them. "now who wants to dance?"
Soon everyone was dancing to the tunes of Pink panther while doubling over in laughter.
It took a while to get them settled down to have their tea in the backyard while Khushi carried a tired out little Aisha to an arm chair set near one of the play rooms. She was a dainty little thing, not much older than three. Tired out with all the dancing and playing, she had wanted Khushi to carry her in her arms for a while. Obliging her, Khushi had roamed around the orphanage for a while and feeling that her arms needed a break, decided to sit down. Aisha had fallen asleep in her arms, her little head plastered onto her breasts as if to gain warmth from a mother she used to have before the cruelty of destiny snatched both her parents away. Khushi tightened her hold around the little thing while she rubbed her soft wavy curls against her. Aisha still thought her mother and father would come to take her home. The situation brought in an echo of her own past.
"Mrs Raizada?" A voice interrupted her reverie and Khushi looked up to find a pleasant looking woman in her late thirties, clad in a fashionable blue handloom saree beaming at her.
"Yes?" Khushi smiled at her.
"I had wanted to meet you in person for a very long time and we finally do. I'm Radhika Malhotra, one of the trustees of this orphanage. I've heard a lot about you"
"Oh it's very nice to meet you. I must say you all are doing a wonderful job giving a home for these children Mrs Malhotra"
"Oh call me Radhika. Thank you so much for helping us with your donations and then coming here on a personal level to help with the children. I was observing you for a while. You're wonderful with children. I suppose you don't have any of your own yet?" Mrs Malhotra laughed while Khushi blanched a little. She gulped and gave her a quizzical look.
"Oh don't worry dear, you look very young besides I know quite a bit about you"
"Oh?"
"I understand our husbands are business rivals and I heard Arnav Singh Raizada married earlier this year" she smiled cheerfully. "I hope this won't stop us from being friends"
"Oh no of course not!" Khushi smiled at Radhika Malhotra assessing her persona and liked her instantly. She had an aura of self assured cheerfulness that tallied with her own personality. "May I know which company your husband is linked to?"
"Oh he owns Malhotra Textiles & Industries"
---
She heard Arnav coming up the stairs, his foot steps heavier and more measured than usual. She took a deep breath and mentally prepared herself for the confrontation. Arnav did not sound as if he's in the best of his moods and she needed all her charm and wit to get past the hurdle tonight.
As he burst into the room, his brow furrowed, his mouth set in a thin line, Khushi hurried over to him and smiled at him, flashing her best coy smile.
"You're home" she murmured pressing herself against him suggestively as she ran a fluttering hand over his chest. He was extremely tensed, his hard body even more coiled than usual as if the tension he carried in him has solidified inside him. She was indeed glad she didn't do what she was going to do without his consultation.
"Khushi, now's not a great time'" Arnav began and she changed tactics instantly, running her hands over his tightly knotted brows, trying to smooth them over. "You are so tensed. Is anything the matter?" She whispered locking her arms around his neck, trying to ease his dark demeanour.
She felt him instantly relax against her as he warped his arms around her and sighed. "We have a crisis situation and the idiots working for me are not.. Never mind. There's nothing for you to worry about."
Khushi scowled as she stared back at him. "That's mean. Of course I worry. You can't stop me from worrying. I thought I'm here to listen to what ever that's worrying you."
"The other way around Khushi. You're my wife. I'm here to take away YOUR worries"
"I think it applies to both parties. I wish you'd talk to me when something bothers you"
Arnav sighed again. Khushi could be persistent and he didn't want her to get upset.
"It's work related Khushi. You wouldn't understand" he said trying to keep his voice as light as possible while looking away from her glowering face. "So tell me, how was your day? Did you hear from the Cancer hospital?"
"No but I'll call them tomorrow. By the way I wanted to ask you something."
---
Please don't PM me and ask me to make Khushi pregnant again. Just because Arnav was a lazy dolt for not usuing proper contraceptions doesn't mean I should make Khushi do the same mistake again and get herself knocked up. She's a big girl and had learnt it the hard way and she'll get pregnant only when she wants. š[NOCOPY] Cover credits to ExoticDisaster C H A P T E R 1 After the completion of the final year exams, Mamta insisted Ranveer to come home from...
