Alright, tis the season for appreciation.

Time to call attention to the unsung, under appreciated and under estimated actor of IPKKND
Abhaas Mehta

What makes me truly appreciative of Abhaas is irrespective of hate mail, hate comments or anger showered on him, the actor remains unruffled. If you know him through social media circuits, you will find him humble, balanced and totally comfortable with both praise and criticism.

Our anger and hatred over Shyam is a testament to the acting skills of Abhaas Mehta because Abhaas grants the character Shyam potency. It would make for fantastic story telling to show the back story of this character and explain to us what makes him who he is. I will take this villain over any sari-clad, overly made-up so-called-vamps of the run of the mill shows.

Take a bow, Abhaas Mehta.

Oooh I bagged no 1...(even if i took forever to unres)...
I am so phangaling...il est hawt hawt hawt...Oh SJ i lou you as in Serial Junke...(yeh and SHyam Jha...but Serial First)
Shyamu...has been the only charactor so far that the cv's have written and progressed well...yeh i know that have been a few hiccups...but among the poholes this role stands out...
but in a medium and audience where the good always out plays the bad...and the reel is mistaken for real...it is hard to play the villain and even harder to excel...for if you are good then you are hated...and hate is a good thing...so when you are young and goodlooking sometimes even better than the next guy...and you are playing villain...and dont get the recognition then yest it is hard...but it does not seem to have phased this young actor...who is playing an older person than himself and a sociopath...
he gets personal spats made on him...all in the name of hating the bad guy and no defence too...not like if you played the hero/heroine and dared to upset the fan club...and yet apparently he makes time for his fans and is courteous too...
So heres to Abhaas...for giving it a good go...for having improved in leaps and bouds and still doing so...for taking things in stride and most imp for giving it your best...
Villains are imperetive for Indian story telling...for fairy tales...they make the heroes look good...in both the damsels eyes and those who recognise themselves in the damsel...they make the story move...and some of the finest actors have cut their teeth in villainous roles and have finnessed thier acting skills on same...
I have an inklin you will do the same and in a cpl yrs time and new Star will be born...
My best scene so far...was the scene where you eyed Khushi..while she oiled Anjie's hair...dialogue delivery and the face...damn boy...not evven a twitch and you made me cringe...
ps
I love me Some bad Arse...and when it comes packaged like this
I lau you Shyamu...

Yes Abhaas is a really great actor and always spares some time from his busy schedule for his fans. Not many actors do that 😊

Abhas take a bow and I am echoing the same sentiments that I have always felt and that was said elsewhere in this post and that is you truly deserve the best actor award. You don't see this kind of discrimination of black white and grey roles at the Oscars the ultimate tribute for any actor, here they are honored for the role they have acted out without inequity. By categorizing him as a villain we have narrowed his versatility as an actor

Forget the popular sentiments forget the clamor for his head on a platter, my heart has always felt Shyam was more apt for Khushi than ASR when it comes to keeping her interests at heart and taking care of her and her only.

I find his love unconditional and while he may not trust everybody he will certainly trust her without any doubt. I sometimes really wish the CV;s instead of turning him into a cheesy caricature of an obsessed murderous lover they could have explored the more greyer areas to his character and marital life with Anjali There were times I did feel Shyam fell in love with KKG because she represented the kind of freedom and possibilities that he never did experience with his extremely needy wife and did feel sorry for him so they could have played on that leaving us the viewers undecided in our sympathy for the aggrieved spouse or him

Till the CV's in a fit of madness decided to reduce him to a B grade Bollywood villain more eager for his money, his entire life and plans of action revolved only around his Honey He moved into her house to be with her he made her favorite panipuri when he knew she would be totally stressed out after her resignation he got her parents over knowing it would make her happy and I loved his expression when he saw her in that sari during the Teej sequence Just for a second you thought he really was in love with SI itself 😆( which is also one of my favorite scenes of them together she oblivious to the power of her beauty on him and innocently chatting and he completely drowning in her I loved that touch when he unconsciously let go of the bag- wonderful touch)

That sequence of him saving her from the goondas and the first eye contact and that unforgettable scene where he describes the new found feelings of love that he is suddenly discovered for the first time in his life to his friend was brilliant

Tonight I just loved him and yes a part of my heart wished him luck if only he was not married or a psychopath sighhh

And yes I felt him very sincere in his yearnings

SJ I think I am going to love the shyam of your FF a bit more😊

He portrays Shyam wonderfully, to the point where the audience seriously want to punch him in the area where it most hurts 😆 I think he even used to receive hate mails before? But doesn't now...Signs of a GREAT actor.

I have been hating Shyam and appreciating Abhaas for a while now, so firstly I'd like to thank you SJji for creating this thread. Much needed, indeed. And I had written this someday back when I was thinking of making a blog post about him. Well, that doesn't seem like a fairly bright idea so what the hell! I post it here.😆

My father once told me that Pran(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pran) once was such an abhorred man because of the villainous roles he played that people did not even name their kids Pran. Well, that is one story. But since then I haven't encountered one villain whom I could hate that much. It's a tough job, really. You can fake honesty, people are dumb enough to believe. But what about faking immorality? It's like the Amoeba Boys. You can never be convinced that they're bad.
So, when an actor pulls of such an act that you want to punch him till his face turns to pulp, such that you want to wipe his face off the earth, such that you feel your stomach churning in disgust at his sight, then let it be said that the actor has done his job stupendously.
Abhaas Mehta is one such actor.
I started watching late so I hadn't really seen much of his scenes. Moreover, I didn't pay any attention to him even if I did. Until later, when I saw his confrontation with Shashi Gupta. And that scene moved me. It just made me feel sad. Sad because I realized people like Shyaam Jha did exist, because even though it's some Abhaas Mehta playing it, the way he's playing it seemed so real.
I have abhorred Shyaam Jha ever since. That scene where he practices his crying scene when he hears of Anjali's death, that lustful gaze at Khushi's photo during New Year's Eve..Well, everything Shyaam made me cringe.
But it wasn't until last week when I stumbled upon my age-old issue of Fountainhead that I realized it's actually not easy to hate someone. Peter Keating, one of the characters, is, frankly, abominable. He represents everything that's wrong with this world. But you just can't hate him. And then I also realized I couldn't hate many villains. The Joker's my hero!
So, why exactly do I hate Shyaam that much?
It's because Abhaas plays him so well. The way he switches from the sweet talking Shyaam Jha to that despicable lusting-after-Khushiji to the "Dekh nahin sakte tum HP!" shouting arrogant bas***d is just mind blowing.
And he's such a nice man. Very few people, let alone actors, have the ability to deal nicely with haters. I, for one, enjoy it which is actually more of my need for drama in my life than a sadistic pleasure. But he seems to take it with a very cool and very applause-worthy indifference. I can only imagine the kind of hate mails he must have received, given the kind of disgust we all feel for Shyaam.
And he's just so much fun off the sets as well. Look at a few of his interviews and disagree. I challenge you.
You see, appreciation is very easy to deal with. Hatred is much harder. And I bow down to him for the way he deals with everything so coolly, and still maintains his villainous character, never flaying away from it.
So, do I laaauuu Abhaas? Yes. I laaauu him very much. So much that I wrote this to appreciate him, not caring of the disagreement I shall receive for writing such a very long post and boring people with it.
Anyway, if you've read this much, I thank you. Although there's no need. It's Abhaas we should thank, because he made me write this and you read it.
If not, then here's a photo of how adorable he is. Look at it it and I bet it'll induce the same laauu for Abhaas in your hearts that my words couldn't.

Also, he's bheeryyy sexxy. Yes--

Aww fantastic thread. I hate Shyam, love Abhaas. He's a brilliant actor and seems to be an easy-going, sweet person (based on what little we've seen of them off-screen).

What though the field be lost?
All is not lost: the unconquerable will,
And study of revenge, immortal hate,
And courage never to submit or yield:
And what is else not to be overcome?

From Paradise Lost . Book : I

Yes, I dare to compare Shyam with Satan. Satan who used to be one of the most important of God's angels, but rebelled when God declared the Son to be above all the angels in glory. Satan persuaded a third of the angels to rebel with him, and declared war on God. Satan was defeated by the Son and cast into Hell with all the other rebel angels.'Satan' means 'the adversary' in Hebrew. In fact, when he is first described to us in Paradise Lost he is described as 'the arch-enemy, | And thence in heaven called Satan' He is defined only by his opposition and relation to God and is often presented with reference to his former beauty: 'the excess | Of glory obscured'. Shyam too can only be represented in reference to the main lead. Good against Evil. The perennial fight. The epic war. Shyam is the anti hero/ tragic hero. His greed and his love/ lust leads him to his fall. And in this battle of good against bad, evil has to lose.

I will begin with St. Augustine's idea that evil is not an essential attribute, something existing in itself, independent and exclusive from that which is good. Evil is rather something chosen, acting through free will in conscious opposition to God's will. The allure of free will is where the attractiveness and power of Shyam's character lies.

Coming back to the man, I have a lot of respect and admiration for this man, he who evokes the feelings of disgust, anger and hatred. And we do hate him with passion. And that says a lot about his acting skills. Also noteworthy is the fact that he had single handedly shouldered the burden holding the fort while the male lead was away pursuing his big Bollywood dreams.

He appears to be very shy, humble, taking things into his stride kind of guy. He is very much grounded to reality and doesn't lose sight of the fact that the audience in fact hates his character which he has so brilliantly portrayed and not him, the actor, or the man that he is in real life.

Perhaps if he gave more interviews, allowed people to see his real self rather than reel self people would understand him better. He doesn't seem to like being under the limelight much. He keeps his profile low. But off screen though he seldom gives interviews, he always appeared as a jovial guy with a humble smile.

I wish him all the very best in his future endeavors and plans. It is no small feat to make the whole nation hate him with so much of passion. You deserve all the praise.
