Why couldn't Genelia make it big?
Abhas take a bow and I am echoing the same sentiments that I have always felt and that was said elsewhere in this post and that is you truly deserve the best actor award. You don't see this kind of discrimination of black white and grey roles at the Oscars the ultimate tribute for any actor, here they are honored for the role they have acted out without inequity. By categorizing him as a villain we have narrowed his versatility as an actor
Forget the popular sentiments forget the clamor for his head on a platter, my heart has always felt Shyam was more apt for Khushi than ASR when it comes to keeping her interests at heart and taking care of her and her only.
I find his love unconditional and while he may not trust everybody he will certainly trust her without any doubt. I sometimes really wish the CV;s instead of turning him into a cheesy caricature of an obsessed murderous lover they could have explored the more greyer areas to his character and marital life with Anjali There were times I did feel Shyam fell in love with KKG because she represented the kind of freedom and possibilities that he never did experience with his extremely needy wife and did feel sorry for him so they could have played on that leaving us the viewers undecided in our sympathy for the aggrieved spouse or him
Till the CV's in a fit of madness decided to reduce him to a B grade Bollywood villain more eager for his money, his entire life and plans of action revolved only around his Honey He moved into her house to be with her he made her favorite panipuri when he knew she would be totally stressed out after her resignation he got her parents over knowing it would make her happy and I loved his expression when he saw her in that sari during the Teej sequence Just for a second you thought he really was in love with SI itself 😆( which is also one of my favorite scenes of them together she oblivious to the power of her beauty on him and innocently chatting and he completely drowning in her I loved that touch when he unconsciously let go of the bag- wonderful touch)
That sequence of him saving her from the goondas and the first eye contact and that unforgettable scene where he describes the new found feelings of love that he is suddenly discovered for the first time in his life to his friend was brilliant
Tonight I just loved him and yes a part of my heart wished him luck if only he was not married or a psychopath sighhh
And yes I felt him very sincere in his yearnings
SJ I think I am going to love the shyam of your FF a bit more😊

What though the field be lost?
All is not lost: the unconquerable will,
And study of revenge, immortal hate,
And courage never to submit or yield:
And what is else not to be overcome?
From Paradise Lost . Book : I
Yes, I dare to compare Shyam with Satan. Satan who used to be one of the most important of God's angels, but rebelled when God declared the Son to be above all the angels in glory. Satan persuaded a third of the angels to rebel with him, and declared war on God. Satan was defeated by the Son and cast into Hell with all the other rebel angels.'Satan' means 'the adversary' in Hebrew. In fact, when he is first described to us in Paradise Lost he is described as 'the arch-enemy, | And thence in heaven called Satan' He is defined only by his opposition and relation to God and is often presented with reference to his former beauty: 'the excess | Of glory obscured'. Shyam too can only be represented in reference to the main lead. Good against Evil. The perennial fight. The epic war. Shyam is the anti hero/ tragic hero. His greed and his love/ lust leads him to his fall. And in this battle of good against bad, evil has to lose.
I will begin with St. Augustine's idea that evil is not an essential attribute, something existing in itself, independent and exclusive from that which is good. Evil is rather something chosen, acting through free will in conscious opposition to God's will. The allure of free will is where the attractiveness and power of Shyam's character lies.
Coming back to the man, I have a lot of respect and admiration for this man, he who evokes the feelings of disgust, anger and hatred. And we do hate him with passion. And that says a lot about his acting skills. Also noteworthy is the fact that he had single handedly shouldered the burden holding the fort while the male lead was away pursuing his big Bollywood dreams.
He appears to be very shy, humble, taking things into his stride kind of guy. He is very much grounded to reality and doesn't lose sight of the fact that the audience in fact hates his character which he has so brilliantly portrayed and not him, the actor, or the man that he is in real life.
Perhaps if he gave more interviews, allowed people to see his real self rather than reel self people would understand him better. He doesn't seem to like being under the limelight much. He keeps his profile low. But off screen though he seldom gives interviews, he always appeared as a jovial guy with a humble smile.
I wish him all the very best in his future endeavors and plans. It is no small feat to make the whole nation hate him with so much of passion. You deserve all the praise.
