Arnav came to pick Khushi up right on time. He quietly went upstairs to surprise her. He slowly opened the door, and found that Khushi was standing in the middle of the room struggling with the dori on her dress. A sneaky smile appeared on Arnav's face as he slowly shut the door, and softly walked towards her, making sure his presence was unknown. He took the dori in his hands, and moved hers away. She wasn't surprised though.
"You think I didn't know you were watching me? That you were sneaking up on me," Khushi said as she turned her head to look at Arnav. "You think I can't feel the heat of your eyes roaming on my body," she raised her eye brows.
"Is that so, then why did I take you by surprise in the kitchen last night," Arnav said.
"My attention was diverted. The baby wanted the damn frozen yogurt so mommy couldn't focus on anything else," Arnav chuckled at that.
"I assume you have forgiven me for my slip of mind."
"Can I stay angry with you for too long?" that answered her question.
"Ok let's go, I don't want to be late," Arnav said.
They arrived at the doctor's office right on time. And the nurse asked Khushi to lie down in the examining room and Arnav took his place beside her.
"Mrs. Raizada, please stay seated and Dr. Sharma will join you in five minutes," the nurse informed an impatient Khushi. She couldn't wait to see the baby, to hear it's heartbeat.
"Khushi stop twitching your foot," she heard Arnav say. "What," Khushi had no idea what he was talking about.
"Your foot'twitching," Khushi hadn't even realized she had been doing that.
"Patience Khushi, the doctor will be here in a while," Arnav said. How did he know her that well? She hadn't even told him and he'
"We have been waiting for 5 minutes now. She still isn't here," Khushi's simply couldn't wait.
Just when her hormones were about to take over Dr. Sharma finally entered.
"Sorry about the wait. Let me just set everything up." Dr. Sharma hooked up the machines while Khushi looked at Arnav excitedly.
Dr. Sharma lifted her shirt up and she felt cold jelly on her belly. A moment later, she heard a weird noise. "That is the babies heartbeat that you hear."
Heartbeat. Khushi's breath stopped. It was so fast and strong.
"And there is your baby," Dr. Sharma said as she pointed at the screen. She hadn't known what to expect, but she had not expected this. Her baby. So little'It brought tears to her eyes.
She looked up at Arnav and saw that he was just as awestruck. Their eyes met and he held her hand. Tears danced in his eyes as well. The doctor cleaned her up and left them for a moment so they could have some privacy.
"Our baby," Arnav said. He brought his hand to her belly and just then she felt the baby kick, right where Arnav's hand was. She saw Arnav's shocked face, "was that."
A big smile appeared on both their faces. "That was the first kick," Khushi said. Khushi placed her hand above Arnav's and both looked into each other's eyes, sharing the special moment together.
Later that night, Khushi was in Arnav's arms contemplating how to bring about the topic of his nightmares. She decided to just jump in, "Arnav are you awake?"
He hummed in the back of his throat. "Umm'I wanted to ask you something." He hummed again. "The nightmares'I know about them." She felt Arnav move slightly. "Can we talk about it?" She placed her arm on his chest and her face in the crook of her arm and looked up at him.
"It's nothing Khushi," but his expression was telling her something else. She didn't say anything in reply, she just looked up at him with concerned eyes. He looked at her for several moments and then said, "they aren't that bad anymore. Just'worried about I guess. The image of you on the bathroom floor keeps flashing in my head. I couldn't bear it if it happened again." Khushi crawled up his chest and cupped his face.
"It will never happen again. There is nothing to worry about Arnav." She kissed him on his lips and then she said, "let go."
He stared off in her eyes, hugged her and finally let go.
