Shampa Sonthalia is the daughter of reputed artist late Shri Gopikrishna Ji, the famous choreographer of 60's-80's era. It is thus not surprising that Shampa was drawn towards the performing arts since childhood- as a child, she performed classical dances and played the role of Lord Krishna in mythological shows like the epic Mahabharata. Ambitious and eager to make a mark in the field of dance, Shampa joined Terrence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company, and went on to be Terrence's right hand. She assisted him in both DID 1 and 2, and was hailed by Jai Kumar Nair, the second runner up of the competition, as one of the best choreographers of the lot. She also performed with Terrence in many episodes of Nachle Ve.
As a choreographer, Shampa took centrestage when she signed up for Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 4 as a choreographer. What followed next was a beautiful and exciting journey as Shampa and her partner, popular television actor Sushant Singh Rajput gave one memorable performance after another, 30 being their most common score. The duo were acknowledged the most Consistent Performers of the season, but the JDJ trophy evaded them. However, the show brought Shampa much recognition and proved to be a good platform to showcase her skills. She also got nominated for the Best Choreographer in the Indian Telly Awards. After JDJ 4 ended, she continued with her independent choreography and also continued to dance and choreograph with Terrence Lewis' team in shows like Just Dance.
Shampa returned to rock the JDJ stage in its 5th season, and her wish of a goodlooking, handsome partner, who would be as eager and dedicated as Sushant, got fulfilled when popular television actor Gurmeet Chaudhary was appointed her partner! After a comparatively slow start, Shampa and Gurmeet have now tuned in with each other, and we can safely say that the list of 30's has just started!
