Ashar being the older one reached first and opened the door while Asmara just flew into her dad's waiting arms.
"Hi Dad!" Ashar said nonchalantly and then turned to saunter towards the living room. At 7 Years Old, he resembled Arnav so much that it was almost shocking. Not only had he inherited Arnav's good looks but his habits and mannerisms were the exact copy of his dad's. Hence, he wasn't comfortable with displaying his love in front of others and tried to act all hard and tough but Arnav and Khushi knew it was otherwise.
Asmara, who was turning 4 next week, just buried her head in the crook of her Father's neck and Arnav felt his heart bursting with fatherly pride and happiness. He still had a hard time believing that somehow, he had a hand in their creation and these two perfect angels were actually his.
"My Princess seems quiet today" He muttered, smiling.
It was Asmara's routine to jump into Arnav's arms as soon as he stepped inside the house. Sometimes, she would start talking at top speed, a trait she had most definitely acquired from Khushi and would tell him all about her day in one breath, while on other days such as today, She would just mould herself quietly into her father's body, her arms tightly around his neck and head buried in the crook of his neck and he would immediately understand that she had missed him more than usual today.
"Did My little princess miss her daddy today?" he asked sweetly and smiled when he felt her nod her head against his neck.
"Awww Sweetie! But Daddy's home now, isn't he?" he asked her softly.
She nodded again before suddenly pulling her head away from his neck to look at his face and beamed, "Daddy, Do you know what I did today? I made a glass of Tang!" She announced in her high pitched voice excitedly, her doe-like eyes shining.
"You did? No way!" He asked in a shocked voice and let his mouth hang open in disbelief.
"I did! Bhaiyya helped me a little but I made it all by myself" She answered proudly, making Arnav chuckle.
"Mum, I did, right?" she turned in Arnav's arms to face Khushi who had just came out of the kitchen.
"Yes, you did Sweetie" Khushi replied as Arnav gave her a one armed hug and a quick peck on her cheek making Khushi blush a little.
"And Daddy? Me and Bhaiyya played in the rain today!" she told him, her face glowing with happiness. "Do you know how it rains, daddy? Bhaiyya told me today" she said, her voice filled with pride and love for her elder brother.
Arnav saw a grin playing on Ashar's face as he pretended to watch Tv while hanging on to their every word.
"Really? Lets hear it then" he sat down on the sofa with Asmara in his lap and already felt like laughing. While his son was a serious boy and mostly remained quite, he couldn't resist having fun with his sister every now and then. He would tell Asmara the most ridiculous things and she would always believe him.
"Ok then listen daddy" Asmara begin in an all knowing tone, "You know, God lives in the skies, right? So when He's in a good mood, he takes a gaint sieve and pours water through it... And thats how it rains" she explained nodding her head intelligently while Ashar started rolling on the sofa, his body shaking with laugher.
Khushi and Arnav exchanged a knowing look and tried their best to not laugh.
"I'll get you some dinner Arnav" Khushi said smiling, standing up and heading towards the kitchen.
"Oh yes, Asmara watch Tv with Bhaiyya, I'll just go and change, ok?" He lifted Asmara from his lap and made her sit on the sofa as he got up to change.
He went up to his room and quickly took a shower. He was rubbing his hair dry when his eyes fell on a couple of cards on his bedside table. He picked them up and his eyes misted on seeing that they were from Ashar and Asmara each. They had made them for him themselves. For Father's Day!
Ashar had drawn a house and a family of 4 standing outside it, representing their small family. And Arnav laughed out loud on seeing Asmara's card. She had drawn a ball, a cat and a hat as she was still too small to draw anything else.
He went downstairs still holding the cards, his smile radiant, to find his family gathered around the dining table, piled with all his favorite food and a huge cake in the centre reading "Happy Father's Day!"
Asmara ran up to him and asked him to get down as she wanted to tell him something. He got down on his knees and was suprised when Asmara gave him a kiss on his cheek before hugging him and saying, "I've got the Best Daddy in the World!"
Arnav felt tears of pure joy prickling his eyes as he replied, "Why I'm the Luckiest Daddy in this World" and he picked up Asmara and went to Ashar and Khushi and enveloped them all in a big family hug despite Ashar's feeble protests.
