I'd like to get a call from Hollywood: Akshay

Hindustan Times
New Delhi, June 15, 2012

Akshay Kumar may be riding high on the success of Rowdy Rathore and Housefull 2, but he says no one in Hollywood is interested in him. "Mujhe koi bulata hi nahi ... bulayenge toh kar lenge. Zyada se zyada angrezi hi bolni padegi naa ... bol lenge (No one from Hollywood calls me... if they do, I'll do it. At most I'll have to speak English...I'll manage that)," he says when asked if he'd like to go West ala Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and now Amitabh Bachchan.

The 44-year-old, who was also a hit on TV when he hosted shows such as Khatron ke Khiladi and Masterchef India, says he is taking a break from the small screen.

"I want to focus on Bollywood projects this year. Maine TV se ek saal ka sanyaas le rakha hai. My upcoming projects are taking all my time. Uske baad dekhte hai." Akki's upcoming list includes plum projects such as Joker, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, OMG! Oh My God, Special Chabbis and Khiladi 786. Even as he hopes these films would do well, the string of flops he had in the recent past have taught him a lot.

"One thing I have learnt over the years is that one should concentrate on his or work and never lose focus. When my film flops, I don't wallow any self-pity, and continue working. That doesn't change even when my films do well."

The actor, who is "very excited" about another baby in the family soon, says Delhi will always be close to his heart as he can never forget the childhood days he spent in the lanes of Chandni Chowk. "I come once in every 2-3 months as I still have a house in Old Delhi. I gorge on the paranthas from Paranthe Wali Gali and go to the Sis Ganj Gurudwara."

I guess every actor wants a recognition from Hollywood...even when they are successful and revered at home...

A little advice Akshay...start acting in meaningful movies...maybe Hollywood will notice you then...a little Rowdy Rathore once in a while to put food on the table at home...but Hollywood will not notice you in those types of movies.

At least, he 's honest to admit that he would like to be cast in a hollywood movie...other actors pretend not to care...when in fact...it's every actor's dream...anywhere in the world.

I don't think this article is reliable.. I have read a lot of articles of his where he said he has been offered roles in Holly movies but didn't want to go there. He said something like: "I don't want to go there.. I want to bring Hollywood here (Kambakht Ishq)"

Akki doesn't need hollywood.

Only losers like Anil Kapoor go over, hire agents and start their struggle all over again and that's only because they have nothing happening home.
