Part 8

Nidhi walked to Babas office as Ashutosh followed her. It was almost 8 in the evening. The two of them had barred their hearts open to each other and discussed so many things. Nidhi felt that she had indeed succeeded in knowing a little more about the man in her life who had changed her destiny.

Baba had been waiting for them.

Baba: Ha bachon I have been waiting for you. Nidhi, pls go and get Jay and Mallika. They are sitting in the terrace with Armaan and Ananya and the kids.

Nidhi: Wow.. All of them are here…. I will just get them.

All of them arrive with Nidhi. Aadrika is in Jay's arms. Ananya and Nidhi enter chattering with each other.

Baba: Ashutosh, I wish to ask you if I can take the liberty of deciding on the wedding logistics on your behalf.

Ashutosh: Baba, you are the person who has given me an Angel in my life. So you are the eldest member of our family. As you wish Baba.

Baba: Thanks Ashutosh. To all of you, am planning to have a simple engagement ceremony tomorrow and then this Friday we can have a simple court marriage. Ashutosh agar tumhe koi problem ho toh beta do.

Ashutosh: Nahi Baba. Earlier the better.

Armaan: Are…… Ashu ka bas chalta toh voh Nidhi ko abhi le jata…

Jay: Baba, Sunday ko hospital valon ke liye yahan orphanage mein chota sa get together organize kar letein hai. Lekin Baba, Navya….

Baba: Maine us se baat kar liya hai.. voh abhi toh nahi aa payegi lekin usne kaha hai ki voh agle saal jaroor ayegi..

Jay: toh phir theek hai… Mallika.. tum Ananya aur Nidhi ke saath jaakar sab ke liye kapdoon ki shopping nipta lo. Baki planning main aur Ashutosh Baba ke saath kar lete hai..

They all got busy in settling all the things for the next day and also for the wedding which was just 3 days after that.

The Engagement was a simple ceremony in Armaans place. Ananya had taken extra care to make it special for the couples. Apart from Baba, Prof. Lalwani and his wife, Hiraman Kaka, Ahmad Bhai and Dr Ranganath were present for the ceremony.

Mallika and Jay exchanged rings and took blessings from Baba. Then when Nidhi and Ashutosh were about exchange rings, an elderly woman arrived. She was dressed in a simple saree and was welcomed by Baba.

She came up to Nidhi and handed her a gift. Nidhi stood confused. Baba came upto Nidhi and asked her to accept the gift. Nidhi instantly took blessings from the woman.

Baba introduces her to Ashutosh. This is Mrs. Niranjana Dhawan. Ashutosh instantly identifies her and takes her blessings. After the ceremony, they have dinner and Niranjana sits down to talk to Nidhi and Ashutosh.

Niranjana: Nidhi beta. Main tumhare maafi ke layak toh nahi hoon lekin phir bhi ho sake toh mujhe maaf kar dena. Meri laachari ke vajah se tum aaj yahan ho. Main bus ek ummed se yahan ayi thi, tum mujhe ek baar MAA keh kar pukaro. Bus

Nidhi starts weeping silently.

Ashutosh: Maaji, Aap yahan aayi, yahi Nidhi ke liye sabse bada tofha hai.

Nidhi: Maa…. (Niranjana hugs Nidhi and starts crying) Main aap se bahut naaraj thi. Lekin aap ko dekhne ke baad sab mit gaya hai. Aap ke is aashirvad ke saat mein apni saari zindagi khushi se bita sakti hoon.

Niranjana: Daamad ji,…

Ashutosh: Maa… Ashutosh kahiye…

Niranjana: Ashutosh, meri aap se ek request hai.. Meri Nidhi ko itni himmat aur sahara dena ki voh apne Pita ko dikha de ki Ladkiyan kabhi baddua nahi hoti. Use meri tarah kaayar aur kamzor kabhi mat hone dena.

Ashutosh: Bus Aap dekthi jayiye.. Nidhi will definitely make all of us proud.

Niranjana: (to Yog): sir, main abhi chalti hoon.

She takes leave.

After she leaves, Nidhi opens the gift her Mom had given her.

She finds a beautiful antique Kundan jewellary choker set. It has a note which reads, " meri maa ne mujhe yeh meri shaadi ke wakt diya tha. Abh is par tumhara haq hai Nidhi. Tumhari Maa."

Nidhi smiles to herself as Ashutosh looks on.

The next day was the haldi which was held at Mallika's place and at Ashutoshs place. The mehandi was in the evening at Jeevan Sandhya.

Through the ceremonies and simple rituals, Ashutosh vowed to himself that he would never let go of Nidhi and give her everything she deserved.

The court marriage happened smoothly and then there was a traditional ceremony at a nearby temple. Niranjana had managed to come to bless her daughter.

That evening, Armaan drove Nidhi and Ashutosh to their house. Ananya was waiting for the rituals and then they left.

Ashutosh goes up to their room to freshen up and Nidhi follows slowly. When he comes out after freshening, he sees Nidhi still standing at the place he had left her. Ashutosh understands her insecurity and goes up to her and slowly helps Nidhi get her jewellary off and asks her to freshen up.

She opens her bag to see she doesn't have any specific night clothes. She always wore her old clothes during the nights at the orphanage.

Ashutosh understood and slowly held her by her wrist and led her to the dressing room just near the washroom entrance.

Ashutosh: Nidhi abh yeh hamara kamra hai…

Nidhi: Ji..

It was a walk in wardrobe and looked like a small room which had wardrobes on all three walls and a attached dresser.

Ashutosh opened one side of the wardrobe. Nidhi stood in wonder to see a complete wardrobe for a woman. It had silk sarees, cotton and shiffon sarees, designer salwars, simple salwars to wear at home, western wear, gowns and shirts, tops and blouses, pants and jeans.

There was a separate shelf of night wear, night pants and night gowns. Her intimate garments were all arranged in the lower drawers along with the lowest shelf of footwear of almost all types.

Nidhi was totally zapped at the sight.

Nidhi: Ashu ji, whats all this?

She tried one of the slippers and it fitted her like a glove. She stood there with tears in her eyes. Ashutosh held her from behind as they looked at the mirror.

Ashutosh: I had asked the carpenter to make this closet for you when you were in the hospital. And then I slowly put this together. Whenever I would like something for you I would buy it and keep it here. Of course Choti has helped me with some stuff.

He then opened a small shelf in her dresser and it was her jewellary chest. He gave her the keys. Nidhi stood there.. tears of joy flowing down her cheeks.

Ashutosh: here are the keys to your jewellary chest. Open it and see.

She slowly opened each box and found old patterned jewellery of all types.

Ashutosh: These are my mom's jewellary which she has left behind for you. And this one….

Ashutosh brings out a red velvet box from behind.

Ashutosh: this is my wedding gift for you.

Nidhi opens the box to find a beautiful diamond necklace with matching danglers and they match perfectly with the lehnga she had planned to wear for get together on Sunday.

Nidhi suddenly just hugs Ashutosh and begins to sob.

Nidhi: Ashu ji, you are the best thing that has happened to me. I promise I will never leave your side and will be your Ardhangini in true sense.

Ashutosh: Nidhi.. it's a special day for both of us.. ise yuh rote hue shuru karna chahti ho?

Nidhi looks up at him and smiles. He then chooses a night gown for her to wear and asks her to freshen up.

Nidhi comes out feeling awkward as she had never worn such clothes before. Ashutosh helps her straighten it and looks at her in her eyes. Nidhi blushes and Ashutosh leads her to the bed.

What follows is the soulful union of 2 people who loved each other without any boundaries.

The morning sun is slowly peeping through the window when Ashutosh wakes up. He goes down to see Nidhi sitting in the swing in the hall with the table set and breakfast ready.

Nidhi had bathed and even lit the lamp in the small mandir that Ashutosh's mom had built in the house. He fondly looked at Nidhi and then looked up as if speaking to his mom up in the heavens and said " Thanks Maa for giving me this Angel."

sorry people for the late post... was a little held up as its summer vacations for my kids here..

well since there are so many wonderful precedents to the engagement, shaadi descriptions, i havent done them in detail.
