Actor Dalip Tahil on Aamir Khan & Satyamev Jayate:

What do you think of his television show, Satyamev Jayate?

It's a brilliant show and concept! Aamir has taken it upon himself to address issues plaguing our country and is seeking solutions for them. And when he takes on something, there will be solutions! He is making a difference in his own way and has committed crores to it by producing the show himself. It is amazing!

[He's the one who played Aamir's dad in QSQT, villain in Baazigar and was also in old serials like Buniyaad.]

Some clarity on Aamir Khan's association with social causes/issues:

- He was always an active part of anti-drug abuse campaign since 1989. Himself conducted many rallies and also did special programs with other actors on awareness among youth against drug abuse.

- He was one of the earliest public figures to openly speak out when riots and bomb blasts occurred in Bombay (Mumbai) in 1993. He participated in rallies for peace, was part of videos urging people to maintain peace and also donated to helping victims. The only young actor at that time, to address youth to stop rioting and maintain peace.

- He and his family are regular donors to CRY and Pratham and on every special occasion they set aside money to donate to these organisations.

- He and his Lagaan team helped rebuild village of Bhuj ravaged by earthquake. They even held special Lagaan matches to raise funds for earthquake victims. In addition to this, he also donated more than 25 lakh rupees to The Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

- He spoke against Modi after 2002 Gujarat riots and also donated lakhs to help support children affected by those riots, he sponsored education of orphaned children too.

- He was part of Help! initiative for tsunami victims in 2004.

- He was part of movement to pass Right to Information act. And still supports RTI activists. He did this at a time when he was not even doing movies!

- He visited school in Leh ravaged by cloud burst and donated crores there for reconstruction of the school. At that time he was on a break from movies and had no film lined up for release that year. He became ambassador of Live to Love Foundation that year only.

- He produced and acted in campaigns for ADR urging people to cast votes in elections. He made the videos through his company AKP only and did not charge a penny. These campaigns rolled out when he had no films releasing.

- He became ambassador of UNICEF campaign against malnutrition last year and was included by Prime Minister in Citizen's Alliance. He had no film releasing when this happened.

- He has facilitated several orders for Chanderi weavers in industry and got them to show case their craft in Mumbai. These are same weavers he visited during time of 3 Idiots. The weavers can't stop raving about recognition they got. And now their sarees' prices have shot up.

- He is ambassador of Incredible India. The campaigns have never coincided with release of his films. And the videos, ads are produced by his own company free of charge. He never demanded money whereas an actress demanded Rs. 9 crores recently just to be ambassador of Maharashtra state! That is the difference between him and others!

- He is patron of people featured in CNN-IBN's Real Heroes. Last year a winner revealed how Aamir had sponsored him. Aamir himself never spoke or made headlines about it.

- He was part of STAR's Heroes project on AIDS awareness in early 2000s.

- He's ambassador of Teach India and Teach for India. Both on an honorary basis. It was reported how due to his involvement number of applicants and volunteers shot up. He himself also goes to remote parts of India to teach primary school kids as a part of Teach India initiative.

- He was ambassador of Lead India. Did campaigns for them on honorary basis. He had no films coming up when he signed up for their campaign.

- He helped raise funds for cricketer-politician Imran Khan's special hospital for cancer victims in Pakistan in 2004.

- He supported Anna Hazare's campaign last year, sent letter to PM in support of Jan Lokpal bill - when he had NO film coming up either as actor or producer last year.

- He's part of Life is Beautiful campaign to prevent student suicides. As a part of this campaign, he delivers talks to students, does public service messages. He did it last year too, around May - another time when he had NO film coming up for release. This is also on honorary basis - which means he does it for free of charge!

- He supports CINTAA and has routinely come forward to give aid to ailing, retired film industry professionals. Last year too, he was the first one to come forward and offer financial help for AK Hangal's treatment.

- He's ambassador of National School Sanitation Project. His company Aamir Khan Productions and government will not only produce ads but also make CDs to be shown at schools to educate kids about hygiene. He's doing it all, free of charge.

- He has also been part of Stand Up Against Poverty Campaign, Keep The Promise campaign for Millennium Development Goals, the Earth Hour, campaigned for People for Animals, supports Manjunath Shanmugham Trust, Saraswati Mandir Trust, did public service message for Income Tax Department to educate people on paying taxes on time, is part of Maharashtra Government's anti-alcohol addiction campaign, supports community radio station called Jago Mumbai - a citizens' initiative etc.

- He played charity matches in 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2011 also to raise funds for different organisations like Saraswati Mandir Trust.

- He did support NBA around release of Fanaa. He donated Rs. 25 lakhs to the org. He did not benefit from the controversy at all. Rather his film was banned in an entire state and its box office collections suffered.

These are just some of the campaigns he is associated with. Just a few as per a bit of media reports! It is totally wrong to say he started doing bit for social causes now, or gets into causes only when he has some film to promote!🤢

His TZP single-handedly raised awareness on learning disabilities. And 3 Idiots impact is being highlighted on Chinese news channels also where professors and editors have recommended that educators, parents and students watch it and quit putting pressure on students, make system more student friendly. RDB effect is well documented and well known. So I need not elaborate.

He does not publicise his work like other stars who are being too human nowadays, it does not mean he doesn't donate at all or do nothing for causes. NBA campaign is the only one which coincided with his film. Otherwise, whatever cause he has supported or any charity match he played has never happened around release date of his films! Neither is Satyamev Jayate his first brush with issues!

Congratulations to Aamir Khan! Well deserved!👏

[And this, along with results of many other public opinion surveys which gave thumbs up to Aamir and Satyamev Jayate, is a SLAP on faces of haters who said Aamir lacks connect or his show is just hype but doesn't cut ice with viewers!😉]
