Chapter 36: The Final Entry

She found Arnav and Brianna finally in one of the dimmer corners of the lounge and approached them; the band was on a short break and she had found that the most interesting thing about the drummer was his drumming and not his conversation skills. He was using the break to woo her with his wooing techniques, which were juvenile at best and annoying at worst. What the hell was up with men nowadays? There were no f**king interesting ones to be found, aside the ones in her family, of course. Like Arnav, who was sucking face with some Kingfisher model whose legs alone could row them to safety if they ever found themselves lost in the middle of river with no oars.

Ah, her bitterness about her slight vertical challenge was showing.

Brianna was nice enough, and she was certainly beautiful enough, and by the frequency with which AJ looked at her, it was as if he needed to convince himself of both. She didn't know what his issue was. He has been a prickly little shit for about two months and it was all she could do not to kick his ass for picking stupid fights with her, which he did now on a pretty regular basis. There was some thrill in it too, she had to admit, because AJ played dirty and she felt completely free when she fought back. It was no holds barred back and forth, safe in the knowledge that he would love her no matter what just like she would love him. Family was family after all. But that all aside, the man definitely needed to get laid. And while Brianna was not exactly what the doctor ordered, she would do just as well.

"AJ" she called when she was right behind him and he turned around with Brianna holding onto him.

For a moment, she didn't see them, but then they both got up from the couch and then she saw them indeed.

I thought you were someone else...

Well, it appeared that Mr. Snappy had managed to get his someone else. She had to admit, they made a nauseatingly cute pair. Even their outfits matched somewhat. He was wearing a pair of brown linen pants and a white linen shirt, his tall lanky form well hidden underneath, the only exception being the tanned and veined forearms that she could see, which had the sort of hardness that came from life-long participation in some sport that required stamina rather than mere brute strength. She didn't look at his face as her gaze skipped over to the girl next to him. She was wearing a white linen sleeveless dress that showed off her lithe form in a modestly sensual way. She was sure that that's what he liked. Modest and sensual. He came from a culture that still held onto archaic notions of womanhood. Long hair, sweet face, classy reserve, blah blah blah. She knew she was being unfair to the girl, but she didn't care so much about that at the moment.

"Well, imagine running into both of you here." She remarked with what she hoped was icy composure, although if she really thought about it, that seemed somewhat of an oxymoron.

"It's funny. Your cousin here said almost the exact same thing." She heard Rajeev say and ignored him as she looked over at Arnav who gave a shrug as he said, "We're the same blood. I am sure we have similar proclivities."

"And similar provocations, evidently." Rajeev answered and she looked at him to find that he was directing his gaze at her.

"Careful man. I am starting to think that all your answers have a biting subtext." She heard AJ's answer and looked at him in surprise. There was something cooking here that was not all as it seemed.

"I apologize, sir. It was entirely unintentional." Rajeev answered without missing a bit, his tone indicating that he was neither apologetic nor given to acting without intention.

"Arnav would do." AJ answered and this time Rajeev smiled as he looked in AJ's direction. "I have been calling you sir for 4 years. One night won't cure the habit."

"Why not? Khushi learned quickly enough."

She was surprised at this answer and looked to find that it had made the girl angry indeed.

"I don't think you actually want me to respond to that, Sir." Rajeev answered, his voice cooler now.

"There you are girl! I was wondering where you disappeared to." she heard the drummer's voice behind her suddenly and fought the urge to roll her eyes. He came up behind her and slipped his arms around her waist; her blank slinky tank was held together in the back by four well-placed ties and his nerve for assuming that touch was permitted and the skin to skin contact was enough to make her want to elbow him, but then she saw Rajeev and forced herself to croon to the drummer with syrupy sweetness as she said, "Would I do that to you?"

"Let's go, Rajeev." She heard the girl say and turned in the couple's direction once more. He nodded at her and turned back to the rest of them. "It was nice to meet you Brianna. Good evening sir."

For all his graciousness, mocking though some of it may be, he ignored her completely as he walked away from the lot of them.

Wow I am loving this...read all the chapters in one go, and I can say I am impressed...Loving the games these two play with each other,,,I bet Khushi wants to show that she is enjoying Rajeevs company and that she is unaffected with what Arnav is doing with the other girl...
