Jayan Poduval's Indrajith-starrer Kanalkannadi is set for a release. This, after six years of delay!
The film, which began shoot in 2005, started rolling only in 2006. Miscommunications between the crew, was apparently what paved way for the first delay. "When the shoot had begun, I had to fly to Dubai for some urgent business, and I had to hand over my duty to others on the set. During the post-production phase, I realised that a few scenes were missing from the plot. The project got delayed, since we had to work on getting the cast together for the pending scenes," explains producer K Madhu Kallayam.
However, in 2008, the movie was finally sent to the censor board, and thereafter, it received its satellite certification. "But since the payment was to be cleared, it was delayed yet again," recalls Madhu. "But now, every hindrance is swept away and we are set for release next month," he adds.
A source close to the development informs us that the team has decided to release the film this year, keeping in mind the star value that the film's lead actor Indrajith seems to be enjoying at this stage of his career. Madhu reacts, "Indrajith definitely has a good market today. But the rest of the cast members are not part of the film industry any longer. This film needs to be released now because of its socio-political content that's relevant today."
As for Indrajith, he prefers to disconnect from the project altogether. "I have nothing to say about this film. I have no clue about when it is going to release and neither do I want to know. Every year since 2006, the team has told me they were going to release the film, but it never happened. I even did some promotions for the film sometime back." The actor also adds, "I don't think people can relate to the story anymore. It has lost its significance, as the Malayalam film industry has gone way further than what people were used to when Kanalkannadi was first shot."
