TV actors feel actress Giaa Manek's replacement on the show Saath Nibhana Saathiya was uncalled for.
Giaa, who was best known as TV's Gopi bahu, was recently sacked for participating in the reality showJhalak Dikhhla Jaa on a rival channel. She was replaced overnight in Saathiya because the production house and the channel said she was under contract with them and inspite of that agreed to do Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Meanwhile actors feel that what has happened with Giaa is very unfortunate. "Every actor wants to do reality shows and make good money. And you get offered a reality show when your character is popular among viewers. Giaa should have been allowed to do the show," says an actor on condition of anonymity. Adds a young actress, "Reality shows give us a chance to be our real selves before the audiences. Naturally we want to do them."
The action taken against Giaa was too harsh, feel many. The main problem is the inflexible contracts that actors are made to sign by their fiction show producers. "Sometimes we get so badly bound that we then can't do anything," says an actor adding, "Giaa should have been careful right at the beginning before signing such a contract with her Saathiya producers."
While Giaa is getting support from her colleagues, nobody wants to be quoted. Understandably so. The actors would rather not irk any production house of channel. "It's a question of our career. Why should we take a panga with anybody unnecessarily," says an actress.
