the fight between shaivaites and vaishnavaites can be best explained by this story by sree sree ramkrishna paramhansa.
once upon a time, ram(vishnu) and shiv had a fight. now ram is shivji's guri amd shiv is ram's guru, and they r one and same, so they made up moments later. however, on seeing them fight, ram ke bandor log and shivjike bhoot log also started fighting. they were so involved in it that they did not even. see their istas made it up. thousands of yrs have goje by, the bhoot and the bandars still fight on.

Staunch kali bhakts of bengal add another spice to this, and this is out of topic btw. Krishna is callee vaba par kandari.
So they say, our mother has lots of work to do, so she has kept a sailor as her servant to ride the boat and a cleaner(shiv) to dust the house. Bottom line, all r one and same but there is no arguing with blind monkeys.

There is oje more thing though. Shivpuja is the only puja which can be done by ajyone. Sanyasis who have personally left all their karma and having done their own shraddhas a can also do. Shivpuja. But u need adhistan to do Vishnu puja. Our house have all of them and ij this terrible summer, ky grandma puts all of them in the same swimming pool to cool them.

I know that. Minakshi made an observation about Brahma & Daksha becoming wiser after their heads were cut off. Mine was a tongue in cheek question to her about whether that applied to Ganapati as well. 😆

The Vaishnav-Shaivya split has never really made sense to me given that both Vishnu & Shiva were very involved in each other's roles - whether it was Shiva drinking the halahal during the samudra manthan or Vishnu being involved in things like Bhashmasura. One thing that did surprise me about the above story was Brahma being created out of Vishnu's navel, or both of them being creations of Mahadev. I thought that the 3 of them eternally and simultaneously existed @ the beginning of the universe.

I have an YouTube channel which I set up when the Ramayan was being shown. In the #1 popular clip on that - Rama killing Ravan - there pretty much started a flame war b/w Rama & Ravan supporters, which in turn morphed into a flamefest b/w Vaishnav's & Shaivyas. I pointed out that neither really trumped the other - for instance, while Virbhadra knocked off Vishnu during Sati's ending, Krishna defeated Shiva when the latter was defending Banasura. People started contesting the authenticity of those, even though it is known that most Puranas are dedicated towards their subjects, sometimes even @ the cost of other deities, such as Shrimad Bhagvatam is towards Krishna. Finally, I had to call for a halt to any Vishnu vs Shiva arguments.

Is that true about Ganapati as well?

Ganapati behaved perfectly from the time he was born. He obeyed Parvati's order, didn't allow anyone to enter inside even at risk of his life.

Most of the people of our country are Shiv bhakts. The temples too. The only Vishnu temples that I know are Ram mandir and Budhanilkantha. Swayambhunath is also there. Otherwise there are mostly shiv, durga, kali, ganesh etc mandirs. Vishnu mandirs are fewer compared to shiv mandirs in nepal. So more Shaivites.

Given that Mahadev resides in Kailash, that would explain why. I've also heard that in Janakpuri, there is a Sita temple where Sita alone is worshipped, due to popular resentment about Rama's exiling her the second time. It would seem that due to a combination of Mahadev living in the Himalayas, and Rama's exile of Sita, Narayan wouldn't be that popular in Nepal.

@ Shruti, as a child I have seen this with my neighbours, who are staunch Vaishnavites. Once their young daughter died due to their stupid orthodox rules, which they regreted later, after that I have stopped believing in such thought patterns. Life is much more important then any religious beliefs & rules. Their next generation has changed a lot. Things have improved compared to what it was before. It is good through DKDM many unkown facts about Shivji are seen by viewers, which can change some of misconceptions about him.

And about Vaishnism, I hav seen the people, they are very strict. One of my frens was a vaishnav. She had put red hot iron on her shoulders that was moulded into a vaishnav sign, after which she was converted into a vaishnav. She wasn't allowed to eat meat or meat products.
I even had a fight with a vaishnav women when I was standing in line at ram mandir during Ram nawami.😆 Funny incident. She turned out to be the head of vaishnav community..😆

The Bhakti movement of chaitanya and ramanujam, totally widowed the Vaishnavism imo for food. Vishnu himself has a nice apetite for killing demons and stuff, i don't see why his followers won't eat meat. He is the god of balance. If carnivores did not exist the ecosystem would be thrown out of balance.

I think the way bankimchandra described true vaishnavism, although it is a point of view of the author, still is the best explanation.
