Chapter 84

Daadiji was in her bedroom when her phone rang. It was Geet's father. She was surprised he had called her after a long time.

While she was happy that he called her, she was also worried if anything went wrong.

She took the call and heard him speak, "Namaste ji, kaise hain aap?"

"Hum bilkul theek hain, aap kaise hain?", he said.

"Ji bilkul theek", she said, smiling.

"Badi maa, hume aapse milne hain", he said. Geet's father called Savitri Khurana, "Badi Maa", ever since he was a kid. He was raised by her and Savitri loved him as much as she loved her son. Though Devanshi claimed that Savitri was her very good friend and would do anything for her, it was only Savitri who never spoke anything about it, but stood by her friend at all times.

"Hmmm, kya baat hain? Why am I so honored?", asked Savitri Devi.

"Badi maa aap bhi na. Bahut din ho gaye. Aur hum delhi mein hain ab. Shayad waqt aur haalat dono sahi hain, aapse milne ke liye", he said.

"I see. Agar aisi baat hain, to permission kyun maang rahen ho. You can walk into my home anytime you want. I always have time for you", she said, smiling.

"Thanks Badi Maa. I'll come and meet you tomorrow morning", he said.

"Okay, come for breakfast", she said, "and I'm guessing you are coming with your family".

Ah well, its up to them to decide, if they want to come or not. But I'm coming for sure", he said.

"Okay", she said and hung up.

Daadima hung up and smiled, having already guessed why after so many years Devanshi's son, wanted to meet her. "Well, you are right Beta, the time and the occasion is perfect for us to meet", she thought and walked downstairs.

She saw Maan sitting in the living room, lost in thought. She cleared her throat and Maan came out of his thoughts.

"Kya hua?", she asked, sitting opposite to him.

"Kuch nahin, waiting for Geet to change and come", he said, "I'll drop her home"

"Okay", she said and picked up the newspaper, while looking at Maan, wondering if she should talk about her conversation with Geet's dad or not. She smiled and decided not to talk anything about it.

Geet walked out of the guest room and saw Daadima in the living room.

"Daadiji, main chalti hoon", she said. "Kal Niharika ki shaadi hain, aur main pata nahin kahan khoi hui hoon", she said.

"Arey koi baat nahin beta. I'm sure she'll understand. So are you going to her place now, or to see your family?", asked Daadima

"I dunno, I have to call my family and find out", she said, pulling out her cell phone from her handbag.

She called her family and brij answered the call. "Tum Niharika ke ghar jao. We'll see you there. Mom is getting all your stuff", he said and hung up.

"Ajeeb log hain, baat sunte bhi nahin hain, jo bholna hain bolte hain aur chale jaate hain", frowned Geet, softly.

She then looked at DAadima and said, "Daadiji, I have to go to Niharika's place".

"Okay Maan will'", and stopped to look at Maan, who was resting on the couch with his eyes closed.

"Arey yeh to so rahan hain, koi nahin, I'll wake him up", said Daadima.

"Nahin nahin daadiji let him sleep. He must be tired. Main chali jaungi", she said.

"Its late evening beta, how will you go alone? I'll see if the driver is there", said Daadima and before she could take the call, she saw Dev coming walking into the mansion.

"Dev, is your driver still there?", asked Daadima.

"No, I just sent all of them away, because bro is at home too", he said.

"Oho, Geet was supposed to be dropped.

"Kahan?", he asked.

"Niharika's place", said Daadima.

"Theek hain, I'll drop her", he said.

"Arey nahin nahin. Aap rehne dijiye. Main chali jaungi. I'm not new to this city", said Geet.

"I'll drop you, Geet.. Naintara has gone to meet her parents a few minutes back. She's taken her car so I don't even have to pick her up", he said.

Daadima nodded her head too and Geet finally agreed. Daadima smiled and Dev and her walked out of the living room, towards the car park.

Geet quickly kissed Maan on his forehead and ran out of the living room, to catch up with Dev and Daadima.

It was an hour drive to Niharika's place, because of heavy traffic on the roads. Dev and Geet did not speak much. Geet was very tired and Dev was not in a mood to start a casual conversation too. He noticed Geet was tired so did not bother to irritate her. He smilply listened to the radio and left Geet to her won thoughts.

Geet, on the other hand, was very sleepy and tired. She wanted to sleep woo, but was not sure what Dev would think. She struggled to keep herself awake. She thought of Niharika's wedding. Though she was happy that her best friend was getting married, she was also worried that her wedding date was drawing dangerously close.

"Hey Babaji, aapko hi kuch karna padega", she prayed, softly. She did not know that her prayers and wishes were answered even before she asked for them. She was unaware of the fact that her wedding with Anurag was called off.

After what seemed like ages, the car finally came to a halt in a front of a white colored building and Geet looked out of the window. She realized she had reached Niharika's house and turned to look at Dev. She wanted to thank him for dropping her and also for leaving her to her own thoughts.

She was surprised to look at Dev's eyes and face turn red in anger. She looked at where he was looking. He was looking Brij in the car, parked opposite to his car. Brij stared at him too, angrily.

"Dev", she called out, softly.

"Geet, you go in. I'll talk to you later", he said.

"Are you okay?", she asked.

"Yes", he said, still looking at Brij. Brij had gotten out of the car now, still looking at Dev.

Dev remembered the incident in the airport where Brij and him had a small tiff. He remembered how Brij had spoken very rashly to him and Brij thought the same too, about Dev.

"Yeh yahan kya kar rahan hain?", he said, softly. Geet, heard him and stopped taking her stuff from the back seat.

"Kaun?", she asked looking at Dev.

Dev pointed out to Brij, who was helping his wife and Heer take stuff out from the trunk.

"Brij Veerji?", said Geet and Dev turned to Geet, shocked.

"Woh tumhara Veerji hain?", he asked, pointing very clearly to Brij.

"Haan", said Geet, "Niharika shaadi attend karne aaye hain", she said.

"I don't believe this", he said, banging his hand to the steering.

"Dev kya hua? Aap itne gusse mein kyun hain. Aap Brij Veerji se pehle kabhi nahin mile hain, tuo phir unhe gusse mein kyun dekh rahe hain?"

Before Dev could answer Brij was outside Geet's window. She opened the window and he stared at Dev, angrily.

"Raat bhar yahin baitna hain kya, ajnaabi ke saath?", he said, in a raised tone.

"Geet, tumhare Veerji ko shayad pata nahin hain, ki main ajnabi nahin hoon. Main tumhara devar hoon", he said, raising his eye-brow

"Devar?", said Brij shocked.

"Ji haan", said Dev, looking dangerously angry.

"Veerji, yeh Dev hain, Maan ke chote bhai", said Geet, not understanding what went wrong between the two of them.

"Oh I see. Now, I know why Daadiji did not want you to marry Maan. Looks like the entire Khurana clan is arrogant and ill-mannered", spatted Brij angrily.

Dev got out of the car and Geet got worried. "Khurana's ke bare mein kuch mat bolna. Warna achha nahin hoga", he warned Brij.

Geet got out of the car and went in between the both of them.

"Suniye, app dono, yaha lado mat. Shaadi ka ghar hain, samajne ki koshish kijiye", she pleaded.

"Dev aap jaeye, please", she said, dragging him back to his car. Dev walked away, looking at Brij. She made sure Dev wa sin his car when she walked back to Brij.

"Veerji, aap andar jaeye", she said, "sab intezaar kar rahen honge", she said, literally dragging him into Niharika's house. By the time she came back to see if Dev was there, she found him gone. She held her head and stood staring at the road for sometime.

"Oh god, ab nayi moosibat. My brother and his brother can't stand each other. Great! Just what I wanted. Ab kya karu? Hey Babaji, yeh situation itna complicated kyun hota jaa rahan hain", she cribbed. She heard someone tell her to come inside and she slowly walked in. she looked at her brother and found him talking to Niharika's parents, in peace. She took a deep breath and went upstairs to meet Niharika.

Niharika's bedroom was filled with new clothes, jewellery and suit cases. She was sitting on her bed, with mehendi on both her hands.

"Geet", she screamed out happily. "finally you came. I thought you'll directly attend my daughter's marriage", she said and winked.

"Maltab tumne itni planning ki hain, ki tujhe yeh bhi pata hain, ki tujhe beti hi hogi?", said Geet, smiling.

"Aur nahin to kya madam, best friend ki shaadi hain aur ek bhi function attend nahin kiya, aapne. Aur rahin beti ki baath, to uski shaadi to tumhare bte se hoga", she said, laughing, while Geet sat opposite to her and observed the intricate design of her mehendi.

"Oh she did a good job with your mehendi", said Geet, carefully turning Niharika's hands to see the design on the other side.

"Yea", said Niharika.

Geet looked at her and said, "Excited , nervous??"

"I dunno. I don't feel like its my wedding tomorrow. I feel like I'm attending someone else's wedding", she said.

"Accha, why is that so?", asked Geet.

"I dunno", said Niharika.

"Hmmm, another 24 hours madam and you'll be in your sasural", said Geet, looking at the watch.

"Hmmm, I know!", she said, "It feels sad that I would no longer be in this house"

Geet agreed, but well, they dint have a choice. "I'll miss you, Nihu", said Geet.

"I wont miss you", said Niharika.

Geet narrowed her eyes and said, "Wah ji wah. Shaadi se pehle hi yeh haal hain"

"Arey Geet, I love you", said Niharika. "Bata kya hua Khurana Mansion mein?", she asked.

"Arey yaar nihu, poocho mat. I thought only Daadiji did not like Maan, now Brij doesn't like Dev either. God, I dunno what enemity Handas and Khuranas have. Its coming out one at a time, that too one week before my so called wedding", said Geet.

"Brij and Dev ka kya chakkar hain?", asked Niharika.

"Pata nahin", said Geet. "Who sab chodo. You don't worry about all this, one day before your wedding", said Geet.

Maan woke up to Dev's loud foot strides. Dev did not bother to look at anyone and simply walked upstairs into his bedroom. Daadima and Maan knew something was wrong.

"Ab isse kya hua?", asked Maan.

"Dunno, dekhti hoon", said Kiara, running behind Dev.

Maan looked around and Daadi answered his question, "Dev ne Geet ko Niharika ke ghar drop kiya".

"Oh ok. Aapne uttaya nahin, mujhe", he said, looking at his watch, to see what time it was.

"Haan hum uttane waale the, lekin Geet ne mana kiya. And I knew you were tired, so we just let you sleep", she said.

Maan got up to fresh up and change when he heard Dev scream, "I don't believe Geet's brother is such a gawaar".

Maan and Daadima both looked at each other. Maan was clearly concerned, after hearing the words, "Geet;s brother".
