Revathy to rock as Molly Aunty

The actress is all set to play the role of a 50-year-old in an upcoming Malayalam film

Mollywood, in keeping with the new trend of strong female protagonists will have Revathy playing the protagonists in Ranjith Sankar's upcoming film Molly Aunty Rocks. The film also stars Prithviraj.
"It is a challenging role because it deals with a lot of pertinent issues facing middle-aged women. Also, it gives me a chance to act in a comedy after a long time, considering its light and fun take," says Revathy, whose last comic role in Mollywood was the 1991 blockbuster Kilukkam.
She also tells us why she's been inactive on the acting front. "Basically, most of the roles that come my way are boring. In Indian cinema, it is very rare that roles are scripted for middle-aged women. So, that's another reason why I'm doing the film as Ranjith had the courage to make a movie with such a woman as the central character," she says.
About the plot of the film, director Ranjith says, "It's a story about a strong-willed woman and stubborn young man who meet on a professional level and the resulting clashes of their inflated egos. It's a breezy, colourful movie that basically explores the chemistry between them." The film also has three quirky-titled songs Molly Anthem, Molly Cool and Molly Locked composed by debutant Anand Madhusoodhanan.

After a long hiatus, the actress returns in a comedy role in Ranjith Sankar's next

It was more than two decades ago that actress Revathy appeared in a comic role in the blockbuster movie Kilukkam with Mohanlal. Now, after a long hiatus, the actress is all set for a comedy role in director Ranjith Sankar's upcoming film Molly Aunty Rocks, in which actor Prithviraj also plays a prominent role.
The actress is thrilled about the 50-year-old character she would be playing in the quirky, fun film. "It's a challenging role as it deals with a lot of pertinent issues middle-aged women face. Also, it's a chance for me to do comedy after a long time as it's a very light and fun film," says Revathy.
The actress says she is not happy with the kind of roles that are coming her way these days. "Basically, most of the roles that I have been offered are boring. In Indian cinema, there are only rare roles scripted for middle-aged women. That is another reason why I'm doing the film, as Ranjith had the courage to make a movie with such a woman as the central character," says Revathy.
Ranjith says that the idea of the film was born after a d i s c u s s i o n with the actor for another project.
"When you look at English movies, there are flicks like Erin Brockovich or roles essayed by Meryl Streep, which are specifically crafted for middle-aged woman. Revathy expressed an interest to play a character of her age and that's how Molly aunty's character took shape," says the director.
