The TOI article says Arnav chooses to go back to find out the master mind.

Here's the proof.

Arnav (Barun Sobti) and Khushi (Sanaya Irani) of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? share some much awaited romantic moments, until Arnav choses to go back to the kidnappers, to find out the mastermind, while the viewer grapples with the identity of the baddie.
