Where's the party tonight?
RAPID FIRE...
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
For: Their floor-burning item song 'Where's the party tonight?' in 'KANK'
How did the idea of the song come up?
It is a very situational song. Also, the film required two item numbers and so we constructed 'Where's the party tonight?' Initially, we had to jam up a lot of ideas so that the song doesn't end up sounding clichd. But finally we managed to come up with something different.
What makes it different from other item songs?
It has a lot of English hooks in it because Karan (Johar) likes using them. But the rest of the song has a lot of Rajasthani elements to it, giving it a very Indian feel. There is a balanced blend of Indian and Western tunes, and that's what's different.
Were you confident about the song because 'It's the time to disco' was also on similar lines?
'It's the time to disco' is a pure nightclub number which had less to do with the situation. 'Where's the party tonight?' is different. Anybody who likes foot-tapping numbers will like the song because it kind of grows on you.
Is it the perfect song to be remixed?
Yes, of course. There can be a lot done with the song if it's remixed.
After 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' and now 'KANK', can we say a party song will be a permanent on your list?
If a dance song is necessary, we will definitely do it. We just need to take care that we don't repeat ourselves.
