Jackie Shroff and Ekta Kapoor |
Recently, there was a lot of buzz doing the rounds about the actor being considered by Ekta Kapoor for the lead role opposite Smriti.
A source from the production house revealed, "Jackie suits the character really well, right from his looks to his personality. We wanted someone big who could carry the role off with ease."
Personal rapport
When contacted, Jackie confirmed the news. "I have been approached by Balaji for their show. I have asked them to mail me the details regarding my character and other related things," said Shroff.

Apart from a personal relationship, Jackie also shared the screen with Jeetendra in the early days. "I have had the opportunity of working with him in Chauraha, and I really look up to him."
Still early days
Sources in Balaji reveal that while Jackie is definitely doing the show, the exact nature of his character is yet to be decided. "We are working on the script right now, so it's too early to say what character he plays on the show," said Ekta Kapoor.
Describing her relationship with Jackie, Ekta said, "I used to call him uncle. I was and will always be fond of him as an actor and a person. Whenever there used to be a grown-up party at our home, he would make sure to spend some time with us when we were kids. It will be an honour to work with him."
Something different
Does the idea of doing television excite him? "I have done it before others jumped on the telly bandwagon." The actor has worked on a Sony show titled Missing. "It was fun doing the show, so I am very open to the medium. I guess things will be clear once I meet Ekta and figure out what's on her mind. I look at it more as opportunity to do something different."
Shroff recalls his mom being a fan of television soaps. "She used to watch these TV serials and start crying. I used to wonder what made her so emotional. I always looked at these soaps as a ladies thing."
Even though he doesn't follow any Balaji soaps, he is aware of their impact. "Television has become huge. Everyone watches these soaps and follows the lives of their actors. I find it fascinating."
