OS: Lollipop
"There's no need."
His tone was short and succinct, and left no room for negotiation.
She threw up her arms, exasperated.
"They are necessary-"
"I said it once. There's no need."
"Fine! Be that way! I'll just leave, and you can be a stupid a**hat!"
She grabbed the small hand in front of her and walked out, leaving an enraged Arnav Singh Raizada behind.
"Iha Kumari Chopra. For her yearly shots."
"Khushi!"
His male voice and perfect physique caused the jaws of almost all the females in the wing to drop.
They took in the harried air, at the same time determined.
The gray eyes, that seemed to be stuck on arrogance mode.
The broad back, and the rippling muscles.
He smashed into a delightful young lady, who was struggling with her little son.
The little boy's brown hair was mussed, and his eyes were slightly puffy. His teddy bear hung from one hand, and he was rubbing his button-like nose with the other.
His mother was crouched at his level, her beautiful face trying to be stern and failing miserably. Her brown eyes were sparkling in the same way as her son's, and it was easy to see why the janitor had just fell over his mop, in a star struck daze.
"Ben, baby.. It'll be better.. Ice cream?"
"No! No wanna ice cream! No like shots!"
"Aww baby! I know!"
She looked up slowly as she felt the gaze of someone else rove over her and her son.
"Excuse me?"
Her gaze met an unembarrassed gray one, and to her credit, she didn't falter, but produced a glare to rival that of ASR, who at the moment was looking down at Sara with a sheepish, slightly apprehensive smile.
"Umm. Sorry. I was just a little-"
"Scared? Hon, it's one in a million. Your kid'll get over it. I'm guessing that's her there?"
"Mami!"
Iha shrieked and hid behind her mami as Ben toddled towards her.
"That's actually my-"
"Ben! No! We do not eat strangers' lollipops, no matter how cute they are!"
He was pushed out of the way as Sara rushed to grab her bundle of mischief.
She almost bulldozed into Khushi Singh Raizada, and Iha, who had been sucking on her thumb, and was now sticking her tongue out at the small, devilishly cute boy in front of her. She held her lollipop temptingly in front of her. Her smug expression was shattered when the lollipop fell. Her lower lip began to shudder, and the small boy ran to pacify her.
"No! No cry! My lolly?"
She took it, smiling through her tears, as Ben sighed in relief.
Sara looked on the scene, amazed, and shook her head.
"He never shares!"
"Iha has that effect on people! I'm Khushi. Her aunt."
"I'm Sara, Ben's mom. Nice to meet you!"
They shook hands, and stood there chatting for a while, leaving Arnav to admire Khushi's inner beauty, her laugh, her smile, and the twinkle in her eyes.
"Iha Chopra!"
"That's us. Come on Iha, and LG!"
She led a protesting Arnav and a willing Iha to the room, waving at a bemused Sara and amazed Ben.
"Ben! Ben?"
"She was pretty, mommy!"
Sara laughed, and picked up her star struck son to go and eat some ice cream.
Meanwhile, inside the room.
"I am Dr. Choudhary. I will be administering the shots today on Iha."
Arnav crossed his arms and glared at the young woman, who raised an eyebrow, then glared back.
A slight knock on the door interrupted their staring contest.
"Hey Sim Sim! Just got you some donuts!"
"Ohmygawd! Ojus, baby, you are the best!"
The young man who had walked in smiled, his dimple showing up.
"Do I get a kiss?"
Simi looked down at her shoes, absolutely mortified.
"Umm.. No'. I have patients! Leave!"
Arnav looked at Khushi, all anger at having to put his Iha in trouble vanished, and smirked, as if to say, 'It's not just me! All men do this!'
Khushi swatted at him, and turned to the visibly flustered doctor.
"Umm.. That was my b-boyfriend. I'm sorry f-for being so unprofessional. I hope you don't mind?"
"No. Not at all!"
Khushi's eyes were sparkling with memories of Arnav and herself at Payal and Aakash's pre-wedding ceremonies, and Arnav smirked when he saw the beautiful sight in front of him, and thanked the gods for the millionth time for allowing him to be to be with her, and praying for her to forgive him. She stopped looking at the scene wistfully, and shook her head, knowing that her fairytale was long over. In fact, it had a time-stamp, for two more months.
"Well then, let's get started!"
Simi's sharp trill brought them out of their reverie, and she noted that the other two needed more distracting than Iha did.
"Okay, so pink or purple?"
"Led!"
"Mummy or Daddy?"
"Mamu Mami!"
Iha pointed at the loving couple in front of her, and shot them an adorable, hole-y smile. Khushi's smile faltered, and she was reminded that the title she had been bestowed would soon fade.
"Elmo or Big Bird?"
"Ehmo!"
"You know exactly what you want, don't you, sweetheart?"
She gently squeezed Iha's nose, causing the little girl to giggle in pure delight.
Khushi smiled wide at the sound, and Arnav slipped an arm around her shoulders. Khushi squirmed, but to no avail. Then they noticed what the lady in front of him was about to do, and frowned, stiffening immediately and synchronously. Khushi clutched at Arnav's hand unconsciously, and he was too disturbed to revel in the fact.
She had sterilized the small patch of skin on her shoulder, and was popping open the shot packet.
"Okay, sweety, I need you to choose one of these two!"
She held up an Elmo DVD and a Dora DVD.
Iha pointed gleefully at the Elmo one, and Simi pushed it into the small player. When she was sure that Iha was completely distracted, she plunged in the syringe.
Their finch was synchronous as well.
As she finished giving her the shot, Iha noticed the pinching sensation.
"Owie!"
Their expressions of horror mirrored each other.
"There there It's all over now."
Simi smiled at the little toddler, with her small curls, tiny fingers, and beautiful brown eyes, courtesy of her mother.
Then she looked up to the couple.
Khushi still holding Arnav's hand, and him looking down into her eyes. Simi coughed, slightly, and they looked up. Khushi didn't let go of his hand immediately though, and that made him grin.
The love in their gazes was reflective.
Sending her outside, she pushed Khushi and Arnav outside as well, handing Khushi three lollipops.
"Looks like you and Mr. Raizada need these more than Iha does!"
Sending the slightly dazed couple off, she thought over Iha's case.
Her mother had divorced her first husband, and had remarried a kind, caring man. Iha had fulfilled her name through and through, and a million times over.
She had been named 'Iha', or 'wish', because she brought the family together when they had been close to breaking. She was the glue that held them close. And she was the metaphorical lollipop after the shot.
Okay guys, so wrote a new OS, inspired by one of my besties on IF, Sara, aka @Desi-.. She is a total sweetheart, and we were chatting when I got the idea. Her son Ben had just gotten shots, and we were talking about how horrible it feels when your kid/niece/nephew, etc. gets shots. So, I wrote an OS. I want to thank her for her inspiration, and for encouraging me. Luv ya, Say Bay!
And to all the readers of Safe Havens and LOFLW.. I haven't been able to update in like forever because of finals, and then I had a LOT of family drama.. So, please forgive me.. I'm hopefully gonna update both soon! :) Thanks for all the love, support, and wonderful comments!
