OS: Someone Like You

She walked through the streets of Central London, her mind hundreds of miles away. Her heart was with the man she thought she loved. She changed for him, gave up almost everything she had for him. So much so that she couldn't go back to the way she was. She sighed.
I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.
She had heard he got married. That he found another to share his happiness. That he gave someone else something so easily that he couldn't give to her. Was something about her that was so undeserving? Was her love so weak? Didn't she measure up? She wanted to call him and... and tell... and ask him to never forget her. That he would always have a place in her heart.
Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.
But she wouldn't. She knew he would clam up, like he always did. Tears prickled her eyes and a single drop fell from the corner, warming her in the cool February evening. It was dark and the streets were becoming sparse. Everyone had somewhere to go, someone to go to, be it a spouse, or family, or roommates or even pets. Unlike her.
Her feet carried her to the River Thames. She walked onto a bridge and leaned against the rails. She gazed into the water. She couldn't see her reflection. She was glad. She didn't want to see what she had become... how broken she was... how hollow... how empty... But she wouldn't give up. She would find someone to love her. Someone like him... only this time, she would find a love that would last...
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead, "
Yeah
She remembered the moments they spent together. The togetherness and the joy. Maybe, maybe it was all inside her head. She had been foolish, tremendously foolish. She was lulled into a false sense of security and her heart was paying the price. And yet, she couldn't help but smile at the memories, forevermore carved inside her heart.
You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days
Still her heart wanted to see him, just once. Just to see if they were happy together. To stop her heart from breaking at the thought of that miniscule possibility of a happily ever after for him and her. But she couldn't. She just couldn't.
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I'd hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.
She wouldn't begrudge them their happiness. She knew they would be guilty if they saw her. That they would cast her pitiful looks. She wouldn't mind their pity, but it was their pain she couldn't bear. Despite having her heart broken into dust, she still prayed for his happiness. Only his happiness.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."
Yeah
She never imagined that she would one day stand above the River Thames, lamenting and reminiscing on her lost love. Life had a cruel sense of humour. It was positively cruel. To be able to stand on steady legs and wish for the happiness of the man you love with someone other than yourself while holding onto the memories of him and you close to your shredded heart. It was cruel and it took great courage.
Nothing compares
No worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes
They are memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."
Yeah
She sighed and pushed herself from the rails and walked away. The wind was blowing quite hard and blew her scarf away. She didn't notice. She was far too numb to notice it. She hadn't noticed that a tall dark figure was watching her from the shadows. He felt a strange pull towards her. He didn't know her. But his heart went out to the girl with the broken heart alone in the cold. He felt compelled to tough it out in the cold with her and for her.
He watched as she pulled herself together and walked away. Her scarf flew away and she didn't notice. It flew away and wound itself around his face. He wasn't a believer in God. His family was, but he wasn't. At that moment, he felt that fate was on his side and he strode towards, knowing that he could never turn back.
He walked towards her and put his hand on her shoulder. She tensed and whipped around to face him. Their eyes widened. Dark brown eyes met pale hazel ones behind glasses. The dark brown ones saw compassion and something else in the pale hazel eyes, something she wanted. Unable to prevent herself, she reached out for him and cried her eyes out.
He wound his arms around her and let her cry, giving her a shoulder to lean on voluntarily. He didn't know if it was love at first sight, but it was, then he would willingly drown in it if he could drown in her.
She disentangled from him and wiped her eyes. He offered her his handkerchief. She hesitantly took it and then he wrapped her scarf around her. She looked at him and she too felt something sparking between them.
"I' I'm sorry for' Well, you know what. I'm normally not so' weak. Thank you." She said brokenly. He looked at her. "It wasn't an issue. I wanted to be here for you." She gazed at him sharply, her mind reeling at the sincerity of his words. She shyly turned away.
He pulled her hand into his, knowing he wouldn't let her go, even though he didn't know anything about her. All he knew was that he wanted to protect her, make her smile, wake up beside her and fall asleep with her with her in his arms.
She didn't pull away, feeling safe with him, wanting to hold onto the strange feeling of belonging, feeling complete. She looked at him once again. They gazed at one another. Then he spoke, "Would you like to go for a drink?" She smiled involuntarily. He felt light-headed at the burst of sunshine in the darkness. He now knew he definitely wanted to keep that smile in her face. She said, "I don't drink."
He wasn't going to give up, "Non-alcoholic drinks then." She laughed and he was ecstatic that he was the cause of her laughter. She smiled and said, "If you insist." Logically, she knew she shouldn't. But she wanted to take this risk. She wouldn't regret it. "Yuvraj Chauhan." He introduced himself. She smiled. "Lavanya Kashyap."
"A beautiful name for an exquisite woman," Yuvraj complimented genuinely. Lavanya blushed beautifully and looked away from his scorching gaze. They walked together, knowing that this was the beginning of a beautiful journey filled with everything everyone dreams of.
Thanks!
