My thoughts on the show

I really like this show. For years India has been plagued by age-old customs, one would think that a rise in literacy rate and income would change these practices, quite the contrary. Even education doesn't help. Domestic violence, female infanticide, child abuse, foeticide, dowry, caste system, casting couch, bribery and corruption, terrorism, riots, bomb blasts, etc. are evils pervading our society, and Government does absolutely nothing. In some cases they are the culprits. I wrote a blog post about this show and would like to share it with the forum. I really like what Aamir is doing here, his show focuses on solutions along with factual information that cannot be argued with. I know of a few such cases.

A working woman in my boarding school was pregnant every single year. She used to fill water and carry heavy buckets everyday despite being pregnant. She was very poor, her husband beat her and drank alcohol while her kids starved. She lost a few kids in the process. It was very sad. Every year I saw her pregnant.

I know of someone who was a victim of domestic violence. When she told her in-laws who didn't live with her, her MIL, a doctor, told her she provoked her son, she and her husband spread all kinds of lies about the woman to save face in society. They said things like she is mad, provoked the guy, and what not. I was so disgusted because these were all very educated people including the husband. What was strange is that someone in their family had committed suicide due t domestic violence, yet they refused to understand. I think educated husbands are more egoistic since their parents spoil them more, so they cannot see their own shortcomings and act out on others.

I know someone who was abused and bullied as a child for several years. He was abused by other older boys and bullied a lot. Finally when he grew up he was so full of resentment and it finally came out.

Here is my blog post: http://fadshion.wordpress.com/2012/05/19/satyamev-jayate-amirs-new-show-everyone-should-watch-10/

I do hope this show brings to light society evils and parents take more care of kids.

I agree with your post. I just feel this show has a lot more potential. It's already made fantastic impact. But if they do it a little more right and stay on right track then it can do even better!

It's of course, better than other shows and has more reach than any routine show because it's backed by a popular face. If today, there are so many articles and discussions on a totally taboo topic like child sex abuse in India, then it is due to this show only. Harish Iyer has also credited this show for raising awareness and says it did play a role in bill on CSA being passed by Lok Sabha. Good effort. And much needed too.

Just hope it stays serious and true to its issues than going too light or easy!

i find the show brilliant...brings out to light the things everyone wants to keep in the dark...its removing the mask...its important to understand that upholding customs and traditions has a limit...and should not be preserved at all costs...
