Renowned film, television and theatre actor Ibrahim Nafees passed away on Sunday at the age of 76 — after being ill for almost three years.

Born in Agra, India, Nafees kicked off his showbiz career from Radio Pakistan, Hyderabad and is credited with being the first announcer at the station.

He also worked for the international service of Radio Pakistan and served in the Karachi centre as well.

In 1956, he started his film career with "Kanwari Bewa" and worked in more than 200 movies over the course of his career including "Heera aur Pathar", "Doraha", "Inteqam Kay Sholay", "Wadey Ki Zanjeer", "Dil Walay", "Jab Jab Phool Khile", "Jab Sey Tum Ko Dekha Hai" and "Koshish". Nafees also worked in more than 60 theatre shows — "Bakra Qistoun Pay" with noted comedian Umer Sharif and "Dulhan Mai Layke Jawounga" are two of the most famous.

Film star Ghulam Mohiuddin has termed Nafees' death a big loss to the world of art. "We learnt lots of things from Ibrahim Sahab when I joined the radio. He leaves behind two sons, a daughter, and a wife. His funeral prayers will be offered at Imambargah Khairul Amal, Ancholi at Zuhr today.
