Madame Tussauds of London have launched a world tour of its Bollywood superstar collection.

But Hindi cinema's most popular icon of the hour, Salman Khan, is strangely not a part of the tour.

The wax figure of Madhuri Dixit, which was launched recently, also does not figure in the list. Wax statues of four other superstars - Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor - will be travelling to Hong Kong and Bangkok among other world cities to be announced shortly, as part of the museum's plan to tap the Bollywood fan base in these places.

At Hong Kong, the statues will be showcased in the museum's World Premiere Zone alongside the wax figure of Amitabh.

Since Big B already has a wax statue in Hong Kong, his statue at London won't be travelling to the Asian city. The statues will be on display in Hong Kong till July 19, after which they will travel to a different city. According to sources, Bangkok will probably be the next stop.

While there is considerable excitement among Bollywood fans in these Asian cities about the arrival of the wax figures of some of their favourite stars, almost everyone is surprised at the museum's decision not to include the Salman wax figure on its tour.

Of late, Salman has had a dream run at the box-office. Back-to-back blockbusters such as Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard have made him the most bankable superstar in Bollywood, and his upcoming films, Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2, are being billed as this year's biggest Hindi releases.

Naturally, Salman's statue has been the most photographed among Indian celebrities by visiting fans in the London branch of the museum, where it stands.

An incessant stream of fans can also be seen posing next to the statue to get themselves clicked with the megastar's wax figure. While Madame Tussauds has extended no official reason for excluding Salman from the global tour, which is slated to move to cities in Europe and the US after Asia, officials at the museum's Hong Kong branch are bullish about the visiting Bollywood carnival.

Kelly Mak, general manager of Madame Tussauds at Hong Kong, said the decision to bring the Bollywood wax figures to the city was done keeping in mind the increasing inflow of Indian tourists around this time of the year.

Salman's wax double at Madame Tussauds in London was unveiled in January 2008. He topped a poll conducted by the museum to become the fourth Bollywood actor - after Amitabh, Ash and Shah Rukh - to figure there.
