Salman would have killed me
...Had there been any truth in the reports about me being infatuated with either Katrina or Malaika, says newbie Arjun Kapoor

Post "Ishaqzaade" newbie Arjun Kapoor has suddenly become the flavour of the season. From signing a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films to the sudden female adulation coming his way, Arjun says, he is finding all this unreal. "It's nice actually, I'm enjoying it. This is my first time answering questions; normally I'm the person who organises such sessions. I'm used to being the producer's son who sorts out all back-end issues and handles media queries, but this time it's different," says Arjun, adding that he is, "still numb with all the adulation".
Tell him that his one item song "Chokra Jawan" has given him thousands of female fans, and he blushes. "All my life, I've never had female friends, I was 140 kilos, you know, and I get nervous while talking to girls. All this attention is surprising as well as embarrassing. But I'm glad people like it, because I love dancing and getting appreciation for something that you love doing is all the more welcome," says Arjun, whose nervousness was evident as he either kept swinging in his chair or doodling on a paper pad in front of him.
For someone who weighed 140 kilos and was serious about getting into direction, mainly because he could "never dream of being an actor", Arjun now, in his latest avatar has a physique to die for. The actor, however, credits all this to Bollywood's macho man Salman Khan. "I wanted to direct because I was overweight and I had forgotten that I can push myself hard enough to lose 50 kilos and become an actor. I got inspired by one person showing faith in me – Mr Salman Khan," says Arjun. Talking about how he met Sallu bhai, Arjun says, "I met him during "No Entry" and then during the making of "Salaam-e-Ishq", where I was assisting the director. Salmanbhai told me that if I work hard, I could be an actor. And it wasn't like he said it and left. He said it and then followed it up by taking me with him, wherever he went. I was gymming and exercising with him, I was living with him literally and all that gave me a lot of confidence, and if somebody like Salman Khan believes that you can be an actor you start believing in yourself automatically. It was a big leap of faith he took by believing in me and telling me that I can act. I don't know what he saw in me, I still don't, but he motivated me."
Was he surprised when Salman said he won't promote him on Twitter? "But he never had to promote me. I don't think he needs to promote a Yash Raj Film – that was never on the agenda. It is the media who has decided to write all that. First they said he is not promoting me, then later when he did write something, they said he has gone back on his words and written something. They decided that he is at war with me and then decided that he is not at war with me – nobody has asked him or me about anything. I spoke about Salmanbhai because people asked me how I lost weight, it's not that I've suddenly started speaking about him and he doesn't like it," explains Arjun. Sources say that his remark about sharing a platonic relationship with Katrina didn't go down well with Salman. True? "Katrina is a very good friend of mine; nothing else. She is somebody I get along very well with, and that is what I mean by platonic. Not every man and woman have to be in a relationship if they know each other," he says. People keep asking me if she is my rakhi sister. Yes, she did tie a rakhi a few years ago, but what is between us is between us, personally what I share with her is only our business. I love her a lot, I value her hard work and discipline and the way she helps me with certain things, I value the friendship that I share with her but that's between me and her. That does not mean that I can't work with her in front of the camera. I would love to work with her and hope that she would want to work with me also, that's the reason why I don't want to discuss all this. I've known her for seven years now, it's just that since we are both actors people feel ki ya toh linkup hona zaroori hai ya phir bhai-behen ka rishta hai.
What about Malaika Arora Khan? There were also reports of him being infatuated with her. "I think it's pretty strange that such things would even be written, for the simple reason that Salmanbhai would have killed me by now if that ever existed. I think these things are very stupid," Arjun says.
