Would you buy Facebook and Why?

~ As much as social media has become an integral part of our lives, is it getting overwhelming with boredom?

~ With the increase numbers of advertisers on FB, it is questionable that it is a good advertising medium? In the past and present many companies removed their advertising from the site because it was being displayed on the pages of controversial individuals and groups. Also majority of the advertisement concentrate on targeting demographic / user action which could end up turning into a privacy nightmare for users or fall flat if users refuse to share any information or actions whatsoever.

~ The mobile version makes no money even though 50% of users are only using FB mobile version?

BUY facebook??
Noo..I wouldn't wanna waste my(my father's) money on it 😆 well, it depends how much I can buy it for. Like if it costs below 5 rupees, I'd buy it! If it costs more than 10 Rupees, I'd rather go buy a nice Dairy-milk :)

On the contrary, I always found FB to be boring.. although initially I was kinda amused by everything about FB! 😆 and I kept finding it MORE boring as days passed by. If it were not liking pages, answering those polls-questions, it's super-boring! i dont find any point in having a FB account :/

Sometimes, I like FB, when there's good photos to see.. like, some of my friends travel the world and take photos...I LOVE seeing those photos. Plus, even if I did find it interesting, I dont find time.. which reminds me, I gotta logout from here and study 😆 I dont wanna comment further on it.
( well...you'd feel the same way if you arent into socializing AT all )
EDIT : With the increase numbers of advertisers on FB, it is questionable that it is a good advertising medium? In the past and present many companies removed their advertising from the site because it was being displayed on the pages of controversial individuals and groups. I do think it's a good medium to advertise. Because - so many people are always on FB! Like you said.. it's become integral part of everyone's life - young, teen, adult, married, middle-aged, old.. everyone is so very much INTO facebook. Even a married man soon after he wakes up, checks his FB while doing his bathroom duty! such is the priority given to FB.

On the other hand...I feel, my gut says - no one would care about advertisements, as everyone's so very concerned about how many likes & comments he's got for his photo/status. about the last part, I didnt get it.. :( ..I havent been active on it for a longtime, so dunno wotcher talking about..

^ I couldn't have agree with you more.

There are a lot of questions about the efficacy and future of FB's ad-dominant revenue model, to dramatically boost ad revenues, the two best options are either to put more ads on the site; which would annoy users or find more places to put ads! But either way FB is a keeper and it will continue to dominate the social network...

I am skeptical about FB stock. I have a fear that the company is being overvalued at this time. Social media is still a very evolving industry and you never know when a new player will beat FB. Moreover, I doubt FB advertising to be that consistent of a revenue generation. Unlike Google which is such a widely used search engine, FB advertising has limited scope. There is a high volume of revenue generated from data mining, ethically I don't like it and legally I don't know how long it is sustainable. There is growing concern against company's like FB making money from private data. Finally, Mark Zuckenburg is no Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. I find his entrepreneurial sense thoroughly lacking. Personally, I would rather invest in a technology mutual fund that plans to invest in google. That way my risk is more spread out.

In the past month or so I've seen many of my friends and family moving out of facebook and tweeting like mad. Those who were die hard facebook addicts are now spending less and less time on it. Facebook is something which is very excitable at first, when you initially join. To see how many likes you have on this or that, to be able to connect with a broader range of people from all over the world and to express yourself on a public platform. No matter where in the world you go, everyone knows what it is. No doubt in saying facebook was a social networking phenomenon and it took social networking to a new level, but how long can they sustain that? Like RTH said it's very evolving, that too in a rapid speed – one day a new site or software will be introduced and that will be the next thing. I don't think I've ever noticed the advertisements on fb, I actually forgot about them before you brought it up. Though the demographic scope is quite broad as there are users of all ages and all types I don't think the adverts will uphold the profits. So saying all that, no I wouldn't buy facebook – it's a very risky investment. If I'd rather spend my time doing something else, I would assume tomorrow others will to!

Would you buy Facebook and Why? [/quote]

If I can buy it, yes, why not? The trend of actively using FB is definitely fading, but how many people actually have a facebook account? I am sure almost every other person if not everyone. For every account on FB, your investment increases. I don't see how it's a loss.

It's selling for 23% (I believe $38 odd). You spend $38 drinking coffee for a week or on the weekend eating out. If you think spending $38 on coffee (as an example) is worth more than $38 on something like FB, which might eventually increase the total value of your investment, then it's your call to choose what's more wise. When you think business, I'm not going to sit down and whine about how people get bored on FB. I don't give a damn as long as I see my profit increasing.

Yes, it's boring if the only thing an individual does all day is 'click click click' and stalk pictures. I do use facebook for a lot more than what other's call "stalking". Some examples would be advertising for your personal business, having groups on committees that you are a part of in your "real" life (and effectively updating them for up coming events, gathering stats on how many members will attend that specific event), updating yourself on the current happenings of your professional organizations (ex: college of Physicians if your a Physician, Surgeon, Dietitian.. and the likes), and if your a student, Oh boy! the list could possibly be endless.

Yes, I like to keep my profile very neat and tidy; in the sense that I have no professional acquaintances or colleagues other than for friends, simply because I do not want Bob to know what I did over my vacation break or my long weekend and vice versa. Bob can check my LinkedIn if he misses me after work hours :)! So is LinkedIn boring? Erhmmm perhaps!

For the bold part of your text, here's something that I had print screened long time ago to laugh at with friends. I still find it amusing.

Are you looking for a Desi date? Bollywood style love is only one facebook application away! Oh the joys of bollywood and romance. So yes, I agree the advertisements are hideous.

Hmm, interesting considering I use facebook the mobile version almost always. I think I'll investigate further into this! :)

Facebook share value went from $38 to $43 already... For $38 a share, you can own a piece of Facebook... I want to buy that thumbsup "like button". Anyone want to share that cost? 😛Why is Facebook going public? They couldn't figure out the privacy settings either?

I'm curious, so I have a question for you. Do you just make things up to contradict?

"One of the most highly anticipated IPOs in Wall Street history ended on a bland note, with Facebook's stock closing at $38.23, up 23 cents from Thursday night's pricing.

That meant the company founded in 2004 in a Harvard dorm room is worth about $105 billion, more than Amazon.com, McDonald's and Silicon Valley icons Hewlett-Packard and Cisco."
