When alaric couldn't find rebeakh and came back for hunting down damon... he saw damon on call with elena... and he was so patient like a real gentleman that he waited damon to finish his call before attacking him.

lol at the sensitivity quotient of Alaric's alter ego... letting the guy have his moment. He wanted Damon to be dumped in peace... my poor Damon.

Or who knows maybe Alaric was eavesdropping on their convo, trying to gather some juicy tidbits about other originals if either let it slip.
