Parichay - show about Kunal Chopra, male centric. I am not here to provide any more criticism to CVs or EK for saying this is going to be male centric show and now Parichay is lost somewhere. Instead, as usual I like to analyze this statement and provide a calm perspective on it.
The show started out as Kunal's journey to find way back to life. Kunal, a fallen hero who has lost zest for life. Why? Few professional failures, loss of reputation and status in society and with-in family, but most importantly - rejection from love. For any guy, these things are enough to fall into deep depression and Kunal was atleats suffering from dysthymia. Then came Siddhi and helped him find his way back. Truly great concept and it works very well, even for real life. We expected that the focus should be for most part on Kunal and it was so. Of course we have to accept other family members having an effect on Kunal and on the way Kunal receiving some support and help. We saw ex-girlfriend, ex-boss and others sabotaging Kunal's personal and professional life. But through out, Kunal was making progress in both Personal and Professional life. Some may say that tricks from ex-girl friend and so on was nothing new and may be bit dramatic. well it is a daily soap intended for entertainment and drama is always a plus for that.
Now the question is what would a show from male's perspective would be like? Quite frankly, no one has any idea. few reasons for that; compared to female, male experience life in relatively stable way. As long as guys have good family, friends and success in job, not much is required. If you want drama, males can only provide difference of opinion from parents and brothers. If you look at emotions, males have narrow range of emotions compared to female. I don't know if its because of societal expectations or fundamental development, may be both. But if you follow a guy for some spice and drama, most likely you be disappointed. For example, when women are sad, they cry. when men are feeling down or sad, they are apathetic (like Siddhi and Kunal) Who can provide more emotions and drama here? If you take a major experience in life such as pregnancy, female goes through god knows thousands of experiences. Male upon becoming father can take care of wife as much as possible and be scared as how he's going to be a good father. In human interaction, female are socially more apt than males. So if you want to make a show which can provide with good amount of data to run with, males are not ideal choices.
Now look at Parichay - Kunal Chopra. Have we seen progression in his love and life? I would say yes, very good progress. He is again a confident man, with true love and supportive family. (It would be perfect if he had a job as well) How long does it take to show a man getting his niche back, not too long. So of course some drama needs to be added through ex-GF and family members. But was the focus of the show on Kunal? who had greatest contribution to the show. I would say for most part it was Kunal 70%, Siddhi 25% and others 5%. At times this balance did go off and Siddhi had upper hand or as much contribution to the show as Kunal, but eventually Kunal dominated the show. That's how it is supposed to be since we are watching Kunal's Parichay.
Many people mentioned about pre-show promos, unfortunately I've not even watched one. I started watching show in FEB. and tried to search for pre-show promos, but those links on youtube are blocked here in the US. As promised we should be getting to watch Kunal for the most part. But no man is one man island so it was appropriate that Siddhi received some limelight. But still show must be dominated by Kunal. We saw from conclusion of rape case, Siddhi and Kunal received almost same attention. I believe it was fine since it was leading to confession, so it is ok. but after confession, Kunal was there just for namesake. I agree with that it was torture and insult to everyone. we saw mahan nari taking care of everything. I sense some shift of focus this week but still not satisfying.
Some people argued how come shows from female's view goes on forever without problem but here such great concept is suffering. well thank goodness, never watched a show dominated by Mahan stri as can't tolerate nonsense. I do know that such shows are run by mahan devis and males are spinless idiots. Parichay almost fell for that in last few weeks. I understand that it is very hard for CVs to write more where male is in center. As I try to show, males don't have much drama and emotions to offer. But I am not defending CVs here. We were promised a male - centric show and CVs and EK must deliver it. I just want to pass the message that male centric show is really like a dream and if it needs to go on, there will be parts dominated by female. Just like in real life males life do have great impact by female, be their mother or wife.
I guess currently CVs are struggling with showing a sensible track where male is dominating. we agree its hard job, but they must fulfill it. Everyone makes mistakes, but such mistakes must be taken care of sooner better than later. Some may have suggested that show is beyond repair. For some reasons I just do not feel its yet time to give up or let go of the show. I see so much potential in the concept, characters and actors. I know what we've witnessed in last few weeks has almost killed our enthusiasm for the show. But I refuse to let go now.
Recently Samir sir said that next episodes are going to be interesting. I sense it is sincere as it comes from SS and may be CVs have realized their mistakes. I am not saying we all keep watching show and just ignore all nonsense. No. i think as viewers we should provide constructive critique and praise to CVs in order to help and enable them in handling this difficult task. I am hopeful that slowly we are getting our Parichay back on its track.
