Ramesh takes a serious turn

The actor bids a temporary adieu to comedy flicks in Sandalwood

P Sangeetha

After a series of comic capers, including his last release, Nam Anna Don, Sandalwood actor Ramesh Aravind is gearing up to break free from happygo-lucky roles. That's precisely the reason why he has chosen to do a film like Thunthuru, which revolves around the relationship between a brother (played by Ramesh) and sister, played by Risheeka Singh.
"I have a new look in the film sans my trademark moustache. I had a similar look in Kurigalu Saar Kurigalu, more than a decade ago," he says. Talking about his character in the film, Ramesh says, "The movie is about a normal man on the street, who fights for his sister. There is no herogiri in the film, though I have performed a few stunts in it."
The actor is also busy with Maaya, in which he teams up with Daisy Bopanna. The film is based on real life incidents and has some spinechilling moments.
But isn't it a complete diversion from his happy-golucky tag? "Though I have done more comedy films, I have tried out all genres in Sandalwood. I have done many roles, in which I sacrifice my love interest towards the end and I am bored of such roles now," he says.
Before his last film, Nam Anna Don, hit the screens, Ramesh was contemplating remaking the film in Tamil. Is the plan still in the pipeline, as the film did not set the cash registers ringing at the box office? "The film has not really done well in the country, so I have shelved the remake. But I am not upset with the BO outcome."
Has Ramesh given Kollywood the cold shoulder after Manmadhan Ambu? "Not really! In fact, I am doing a film with comedians, Vivekh and Karunas. The project is called Machaan and is directed by Shakthi Chidambaram, who made Charlie Chaplin (Tamil version of Kalla Malla Sulla)," he signs off.
