Following the surprise success of the recent Bollywood comedy Vicky Donor, directed by Shoojit Sircar, we hear that the production team behind this year's quirky rom-com Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi (KSY) are planning a remake of the film in Tamil and Telugu.
When CT contacted Sashikanth, he confirmed that he and Siddharth are in talks with the production house behind Vicky Donor but added that the deal is yet to be firmed up. "We watched the film on the day of its release and since the content was something new, which is what we have always wanted to present to our audience, we got in touch with the Bollywood studio. We have asked for the Tamil-Telugu remake rights as we intend to do the movie as a bilingual."
Sashikanth informs that the producers too have reciprocated favourably. "It is actually a two-way thing between us as we are already negotiating with them for the Hindi remake of KSY," he adds hopefully.
The producer says that Siddharth will be playing the lead in the remake versions though the rest of the cast and crew will be finalized once the deal comes through.
Quiz him if the script will be changed to suit the sensitivity of the south audiences given the slightly controversial nature of the film's subject (which deals with sticky issues like sperm donation and infertility), and he says, "Our studio has always been extremely concerned about the kind of content that our films have and we will ensure that the remakes will respect the quirky sensibility of our earlier productions."
