Hey friends I'm back again and this time not with any question, but rather an analysis of the structure of 'domestic drama' that the writer of HD is following. As I was curious about the story-line of HD,I had to do some research on the topic 'Drama',its characteristics and context of the contemporary style.Drama is categorized into three parts, one being domestic drama, which expresses and focuses on the realistic everyday lives of 'ordinary people',which we can relate to.So 'Hitler Didi' falls in the genre of domestic drama. Now, not going any further as it is a vast topic,I'll focus on the points which made me take up this discussion.
The audience are appealed to the style of drama in four ways-empathy,humor,suspense, and resolution of issues. The writers use the audience's empathy to manipulate the proposed expression of the show.In this regard,we can see that in 'HD',this style is used in many occasions;for instance,Indira's struggle with her day-to-day life, and the circumstances which led to it,which we can identify with our lives.Coming to the second style,i.e.,humor-it provides the entertainment value within a domestic drama, lightening the serious mood, keeping the audience engaged without having to continually use serious turns of events. In 'HD' humor has played an important role with the introduction of character sas,Rishi,Radhe,Munna,Suinaina, etc.Thirdly, the use of suspense, which provides 'dramatic irony',as the audience indulges itself within the characters' situation and privacy of their background. This use of suspense is also made in 'HD' in many parts, one with the secret of Rishi,s identity, secret of Vidit's accident;Sameer's intentions behind his involvement in Indira's life;and at present, the awaited absence of Rishi from Indira's life, etc. And lastly, the style of using resolution, which an audience expects so that their anxiety and tension is relieved. Now,about the use of this style,we can say that the writer of 'HD' has not justified it well.Every time when a conflict,or suspense is given a solution it lacks integrity of the proper timing and presentation of characters. On this we have more than one situation, where the audience are surprised with unexpected turn of events.
And then there is the climax, which is the turning point of the story. It is in the climax, which makes a change, for better,or for worse,in the protagonist's life. If the story is a comedy, things go badly for the protagonist up to this point;and if it is a tragedy, things go from good to bad. With a resolution,or catastrophe;i.e.,conflicts are resolved, creating normality for the character and a sense of catharsis,or release of tension and anxiety for the audience.Contemporary dramas increasingly use the fall to increase the relative height of the climax and dramatic impact. The protagonist encounters his,or greatest fear,or lose something important. This loss gives them the courage to take on another obstacle.Focusing on the last point,we can relate to the present story-line of 'HD",where Indira has got everything she has ever wished for;more importantly love, and her greatest fear is loosing Rishi. And as assumed,he will go missing,or an accident will take place;either way Indira is going to lose Rishi, and if the writer is following the typical characteristics of drama, than there is a storm awaiting Indira's life, where Rishi will go away from her;but this loss will give her courage to fight all other obstacles and get back Rishi.

Having said about the features of drama and its use in contemporary writing too,we get an idea that, the writer of 'HD' is following these styles, though not aptly, because there is a hugh leap in the chain of events, bad timing, and weak story-line.Moreover,'HD' is not a tragedy,so there is no possibility of a tragic end.But the writer have to be aware that it is not a one-act play in a theater, where
we, as audience see the whole drama unfold before us in an hour,or two. This is a soap-opera(an episodic work of dramatic fiction presented in a serial format),and it has to occupy the interest of the audience for long. And the fact is that, most of us are loosing interest in 'HD".because of the story-line,which seems to divert from its theme every now-and than, with the repetition of the 'marriage plot',and the improper presentation of the characters.

There are many draw backs in the script of 'HD',which does not present it as a good piece of drama, but there is a chance that the writer can gather all the loose ends and move the story in a new direction, keeping the integrity of the characters intact
(Rishi and Indira),and turning the events logically. The soul purpose of soap-operas is to entertain the audience, and nobody will be expecting,or accepting a tragedy. Therefore,I really hope that Illa Bedi Dutta, the writer, and the CVs of "HD",present us a drama that appeals us,entertains us.And I'm sure, the present track of the story, where Rishi might be drifted apart from Indira, will be appreciated only if this event brings back the final unity of Indira and Rishi;only if the protagonist's life is brought back to normality.

I hope you'll wouldn't get mad at me for such a long post only on the style of drama.I wrote it,because I felt most of us are confused about the story-line of 'HD',and the way the mood of it has been changed within a span of few months,i.e.,from a light-hearted drama to a 'confused' drama.Do share your views.

good post Earnshaw👏👏👏

and 100raj - I concur.

Initially I thought that HD was a drama with a sitomish flavor. Ie. there was a major story arc - that of Indira and Rishi, Rishi's mystery, the character's love and growth. But on this arc were string daily trails and tribulations of Indira, and perhaps Rishi bring comic relief.

For first couple of months it was true. Then as the drama had to mature, the writers lost the plot and they had one major calamity and after another with no breather in between to provide comic relief, as well as show the characters inner turmoil, feelings etc. Case and point being the saga from holi episode onwards. We had the aborted wedding, immediately followed by Sam's aborted attempt to kidnap, Rishi's kidnapping of Indira, followed by Madira's rape. There was no respite in between.

Now comes Sumer. It was inevitable that Rishi and Indira would have to be seperated by some device or another for the story to progress. But it could have been achieved without the horrible repeated marriage tracks.

If the story of Sumer-Indira affair comes true then it would be THE WORST possible outcome for the story. I desperately hope that this time writers show Rishi and Indira growing as characters.

Now Sumer story can be treated as purely action cinema with lots of shots of Sumer showing his abs as he runs after criminals, kind of like his entry. But if it tries to go into the direction of love story, it will become utter crapfest.
