Chapter 19

Recap:

Dream' it was all her dream' her wild imagination!! She spanked herself for the wild imaginations and blushed at herself thinking about how she wanted the rest of the night to be. The day was special and she wanted it to be even more special by confessing tonight. She made the decision to do it tonight. If not at the party then at home for sure!

There, Abhay was rethinking the dance moments when someone disturbed him. It was Maya. He smiled and greeted her with a hug. He said, "Maya!! Oh Maya, I'm so happy today. I can't tell you, I really am happy today. You say you can see a glitter in my eyes whenever I'm around Pia right? Today, I saw that glimpse of happiness in Pia's eyes. I think she's in love with me too. No, not think' I know it!!"

She grinned happily and said, "If that's the thing, then I'm really happy for you and her. Finally you both will be together."

"Yes' no more waiting now. I've waited enough for this."

"Then mister, what are you waiting for? Go and tell her!!" Maya said encouragingly.

"But'"

"But what if what I'm thinking is wrong? What if it was only because of the dance'?" he questioned. He knew he shouldn't be but he couldn't stop himself from asking. Whenever he talked to Maya, he felt as if he was talking to his conscious. He never feared telling his heart out to her. He asked her this as well.

She kept an assuring hand on his shoulder. Looking into his eyes, she replied, "Why do you think like this? Don't you trust your love for her? Your love for her is too strong for her to reject it. I am her friend too and I can tell since a long time that she loves you. It was just a matter of time before she knew it as well. And now she does. Don't delay it before something happens again. You've lost her once. Don't lose her again. Your heart can only bear enough things. It won't be able to bear it again."

He let those tears flow out. He knew she was right. He had lost her once years ago. Later on, behaving like a stranger to her had taken a lot of courage. If anything happened this time, he would completely break down. He knew he wouldn't be able to bring that courage out again this time. Honestly, he didn't have it in him anymore. The years' penance of staying away from her had been like living with a dead soul.

He looked at her stilled with unsure eyes. She continued, "Okay, consider me as Pia and let's practice? Will you feel better than?"

Abhay asked sheepishly, "But how would you feel if I practiced proposal on you'?"

She chuckled at his innocent worry. "Silly, I'm asking you to propose me. Just do it now, would you?"

Pia rushed here and there in hope of finding Abhay. He saw him in the far with Maya. She smiled finally finding him and took a few hurried steps to come close enough to hear. She had a glimpse of what he said. Something that made her stop in her tracks and stand there like a dead person. 'I love you.'

She was horrified hearing that. And the smiling face of Maya didn't help at all. It added to her misery. And here she thought Maya was the best friend she could ever have' How can a person be your best friend if they SMILE at a proposal? Especially if the person who said it was the person you're in love with?! She knew nothing that happened around her there. She was just left there standing as the crowd shuffled around her.

She was completely heart broken. Just few seconds ago, she was weaving dreams of their future' without knowing what he felt. She didn't think it was necessary' A person just love right? One's heart doesn't know how to question in love. Love just happens'

Maya replied, "I love you too." The tears flowed down from Pia's eyes and dropped onto the floor as if a precious jewel was lost. She heard nothing else after it. She was too shaken to realize anything else.

Maya continued saying, "She'll say the same. Now don't worry. Go and get your girl!"

Abhay grinned and hugged Maya. "You are the best friend one can ever have! Thank you! I love you soo much!" he said it, all with the intention of being a best friend.

She grinned back and hit his shoulder playfully. "Enough buttering, alright?" her eyes flickered around and got stuck at Pia. She was taken by surprise seeing her there. Abhay saw the sudden eye movement and the change on expression on her face and he too followed her eyes to find Pia standing few feet distance.

He dropped her hands that hung around Maya before and looked back and forth from Pia to Maya and back. The same question was in Maya's head. How much did she hear?

From the expression, it seemed as if she had heard it all except the beginning where Maya asked Abhay to imagine her as Pia and the end from when she said 'she'll say the same.'

Abhay looked at Maya who gave him the same reaction back. They both say Pia take a step back. And another and yet another till she was running away from there. Abhay stood there frozen for a second before Maya nudged him to his senses saying, "GO!"

"Huh? Yea..!" he said coming back to his senses and took off after Pia. The misunderstanding had to be cleared before Pia was too shattered. Before he lost her once again'! His darkest fears were now coming true..!

When I heard this song for first time, I instantly knew I wanted to use it for this update. It was some 2 months ago... Do listen to it when you read. It's really just amazing and heart touching.

Her mind wished her heart would stop beating right then and there. To her misery, it wasn't in her control. Heart continues to beat' What she could do was keep on running though. A voice'a voice she could hear behind her. Someone was calling her name' something about asking her to stop. She didn't want to stop or look back to see whom it belonged to. She had a vague idea about who it could be. She somehow knew it would be Abhay. But all she wanted to do was hide her face somewhere. Hide herself in a place where no one could reach her. She was just too hurt hearing what she heard.

I don't know why but when i look in your eyes

I think I'm losing my mind

And I don't know what to do

The person she loved didn't love her back. He had his own love interest. If her mind was in the right senses, it would have questioned about all the little moments they had. The love that she saw in his eyes could not be just acting, could it be?

Abhay continued running behind her, pleading her to stop and listen to him once. But looking at the way she was running away and out of the college door, he knew she wasn't listening. He could feel that she wasn't hearing a word. She was in her own shaking world. If only she could hear him and see what he had to say...?

He couldn't see her falling like this. He wanted to tell her that whatever she heard back there was nothing. He was just practicing on saying all that to her. He didn't love Maya! He just thought about her as his best friend and vice versa. How was he supposed to explain that to her though when she wouldn't listen? Forget listening, she wasn't even stopping. It seemed like she had a marathon to win seeing the speed at which she ran!

He stopped when she got in the car and the driver drove the car away. He couldn't get to her' He felt miserable seeing her like that. Maya reached the spot and came just in time to see him come to a halt and the car at a distance.

She kept her hand on his shoulder and he looked back at her, pain reflecting in her eyes. She consoled him, "Don't worry. We'll tell her; tomorrow if not today. But she will have to listen to us. For now, let's grab our things and leave? Party time seems to be over."

Everyone was still partying inside, but for them, it was the end of the day. No more smiles would be seen on any of their faces till the misunderstanding was confronted and trashed away.

He simply nodded. She insisted on driving and he didn't refuse her. He knew just well that even if he drove, he might run them into some accident as Pia was all over his heart and mind. He couldn't think straight at all. All he wanted to do or think about was how to tell Pia and when to tell her.

If he had known her well like he thinks he does, than she would be in her room, door locked. There would be no point in trying to talk to her when they reached home. He knew that very well. And that was exactly what she did when she got home. She locked the door and rested her back on the door as she looked inside her room.

It was beautifully decorated by her own hands. None of it mattered though. To her, it seemed as if she was watching a black and white movie from the 1800s. All the colors faded from her life. She kept telling herself to not blame Abhay. He never had said by his own mouth that he loved her. She had just assumed and her feeling told her that she loved him as well.

How can love let it go?

When he had never told her, how could she hold him responsible for the fragile state her heart was in at the moment? No, it was her own fault for getting carried away. She told herself that. He didn't lead me on. I lead myself on.

But why do I feel this way

She knew she'd have to move on. But first, she wanted to cry her heart out and let all the pain wash away from inside of her, just so that she can put up a strong face in morning when she would walk down the stairs.

She sat by the window, looking out at the stars, tears flowing down her cheek and on her pants. At times, they brewed on her eye lids itself and refused to flow down. She would shut her eyes shut to force them to flow down and not blur her vision. The rest of the times, some tears would flow down, wetting her cheeks. She tasted the sweet taste of it.

How can time be so wrong?
For love to come along?

How ironic can it be? She was crying down tears of pain, but they tasted sweet! Such was the mystery of life' Never achieving what one wants' what one desires' They always have to strive for it' Yearn their heart out so that one day, they can look proudly at anyone and say. 'I got what I desired.'

She wiped the fresh tears away and walked down to her bed and laid down, setting her mind that tomorrow when she wakes up, she wouldn't blame anyone. She would put on a smile and life will go on. She would not make Abhay or Maya feel that she is heartbroken in one way or another. She would force on a smile'for them if not for herself.

And it's wrong for me to feel this way
