Twist in the story means TRPs?
Spice it up and grab the eyeballs - that's the mantra for General Entertainment Channels (GECs). As IPL 5 moves up the popularity quotient, the daily soaps are feeling the heat.
The latest TRP ratings for the week ending 25 April shows how much IPL affected the shows aired on GECs. SET Max sustained its numero uno position with 344 GRPs, Star Plus gained 249, (last week it gained 262), Zee gained 214 GRPs, Sony TV gained from (from last week's 206) 209 GRPs.
GECs are now taking the predictable route - adding dramatic twists in the storylines. Arnav (Barun Sobti) tells Khushi why he married her, leading to a huge twist in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?👍🏼👍🏼, in Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Jeevika (Krystle D'Souza) will meet an accident which will lead to Viren (Karan Tacker) finding out about Manvi (Nia Sharma)'s cancer. What do producers say about the twists? Is it done to cope with the dipping ratings (no thanks to IPL)?
The TV industry might not be forthcoming, but the defence mechanism is visible. The TRPs of the next week and thereafter will tell who's got the winning edge!
