Part 18

She stepped out of the house making a special prayer to her Devi Maiya. "Protect me from that Laad Governor Devi Maiyaa...so much your follower can tolerate..."

Suddenly a car screeched in front of her house-it was the great ASR.

"You, what you doing here sir?"

"I was passing by and thought you might want a lift...and Khushi don't create a scene". He looked at her with a straight face. She looked around and saw people taking an interest in their conversation. She came round and got in the car. He drove off.

"So I'm creating a scene? What about you sending me flowers and singing...? On top haunting me non stop..Your invading my privacy, my thoughts and now you come into my dreams".

Arnav turned and looked at her in surprise. "So Khushi Kumari Gupta...you do think about me then?"

She nervously hesitated and then made a come back. "What else should I do? Your practically stalking me...you know this is called harassment".

"Oh really? Miss Khushi I have never done anything that would be classed as harassment. ..its not my fault that you cannot admit to your feelings for me".

She looked at him with discontent. "ASR you really do have a big head...what makes you think I have feelings for you?"

Arnav raised his eyebrow and then gave her a lopsided smirk. "Well when a girl behaves the way you do...you know it".

She began twirling her dupatta feeling defeated by ASR logic. He realised and looked at her hands knotting her dupatta. The rest of the journey was filled with tension and an unconsumed desire with Arnav feeling Khushi was melting away with his lethal charms.

Sonu had been pestering Sia to start an affair behind Anjali's back but she was adamant that she could not deceive her best friend. But as Sonu was a sought after lad at the university. The temptation was there for Sia. She never had a proper boyfriend and this was an opportunity to prove to herself that she could have a meaningful relationship like Anjali.

Being the innocent girl that Anjali was she never picked up any signs of her boyfriend's betrayal because he was good at covering his tracks. Anjali began concentrating at her studies and she felt if she did well in her year Arnav would be really happy and therefore accept whatever she asked of him.

Anjali got a phone call from Sia.

"Hi Anjali hows it going?"

"Its going good Sia, what about you?"

"I am fine, just thought I would see how you and Sonu are doing?"

Anjali looked a bit confused. "We are fine, why you asking?"

"Nothing, just asking. Anyways whats the latest?"

"Latest is that I'm going to talk to bhaiya about Sonu after my exam results. I have had enough of waiting ...I just think we should get married and settle down".

Sia did not seem pleased and began twirling her hair in anger.

"Anjali don't you think your moving too fast? I mean you only been going out for like 4 months".

"The way I feel Sia why wait when you know you found the perfect guy...I mean I have given him everything that is important to me...even my precious virginity and I cannot see anyone else in my life except him".

Sia was getting agitated that Anjali seemed so fixated on Sonu. "Thats fair enough...anyway Anjali I have to go".

She put the phone down and Anjali found her behaviour a bit strange but soon fobbed it off as she was reading too much into it.

Aman stood there with Ranveer peeping at Khushi sitting in her office working.

"Come one Ranveer go and ask her out?"

"But how can I? ASR has told me to keep my distance".

"ASR need not know just go and talk to her nicely and somehow style it out".

Ranveer went a few steps towards her cabin and came running back. "I can't Aman..I am really nervous".

Meanwhile Arnav sat in his cabin thinking of Khushi and her antics in the guy. The girl was really sweet he thought. He loved to make her feel awkward and tease her at no end. He began smirking and thought of what he was going to do next. He got up and made his way down to her cabin.

"Aman what you doing here?" he roared wanting to know why he was around Khushi's cabin.

"Uhhh...nothing...nothing sir"...Aman ran from there and ASR looked on like he knew something fishy was going on.

He proceeded towards her cabin and found Ranveer flirting with Khushi.

"Miss Khushi you really are an asset to this company...I mean you take care of everything".

Khushi smiled and disregarded the compliment. "Ranveer your really sweet but I work like any employee here".

Arnav stood there burning with jealousy. He clenched his teeth and held his fist tight.

"Khushi if you don't mind shall we go out for lunch tomorrow?"

Khushi seemed shocked by the proposal but before she could answer she noticed Arnav standing looking mighty annoyed. Being the prankster that she is, she accepted the offer to further send Arnav into the land of envy.

"Thank you Ranveer ji I would be honoured".

Ranveer nervously laughed not believing his indirect asking her out was accepted.

"Thank you Khushi, you made my day".

"Ranveer if you don't mind I need to go and finish off clearing the stock room before I go home". She got up and left her cabin without looking at Arnav to irritate him further. Arnav stood there seething with anger. He gave an angry glare at Ranveer and went after Khushi.

Khushi began dusting the shelves and her sneezes increased by each sneeze. "Hey Devi Maiya stop these sneezes".

"HOW DARE YOU?"

She froze for a second and then turned quickly. "Khushi Kumari Gupta what do you think you were doing accepting that jerks invitation to lunch, was I dead?"

"I don't know what you're talking about?"

He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back. "You know exactly what I'm talking about".

"Let go of me..I don't have to answer to you".

She got her arm back from his grasp and began making her way out of the storage room. Arnav charged and took over her and banged the door shut. "When I'm talking don't you dare walk away".

Khushi looked on worried. "Sir what you done? Aman sir told me to not lock this door as it can only open from the outside". Arnav looked cool as a cucumber. "Let me ring Aman".

It was no use as there was no reception in the basement and by now everyone had left for the night.

"It all your fault sir, look what you done...how we going to get out now?"

He banged his fist against the wall. "Its my fault? What about you flirting with Ranveer. If you hadn't made me angry this would not be happening".

Khushi looked at him and he noticed she was getting upset. "Listen Khushi we are locked so don't panic".

She did begin panicking. She frantically began pacing and banging the door. "I shouldn't panic...why shoudln't I panic...I am here in this dark room with someone like you...on top no proper air...and we are locked in for the night..and I'm not suppose to panic??".

Arnav grabbed her arm twisting it behind the small of her back, pulled her towards himself and put his masculine hand on her petite lips. She looked into his eyes that told a thousand stories. Her heart began racing again and her breathing going shallow with each passing moment. Her lips began trembling. A song on a loud speaker could be heard from outside.

Both stood there motionless reading each others sentiment through one anothers eyes. The words of the song matched their situation. It was like Arnav was conveying to Khushi that he is her man and Ranveer will never be able to make her happy.

Khushi remembered Arnav sending her flowers and she thought maybe he good heartedly sent them to her. He looked at her with pain that he has lots of money but he wants Khushi to be the one to share it with. She realising that they were so close that they could feel each other breathing. She took a few steps back and was stopped by her duppatta falling slightly off her shoulder. He saw her exposed neck for the first time, he slightly looked away and then came behind her to put her dupatta around her shoulder. She began closing her eyes and began hyperventilating. Feeling the intensity of his eyes she ran off.

The basement had no AC and Arnav began feeling really hot. He took his shirt and waistcoat off. Khushi felt shy and looked away while Arnav realised her predicament. She began walking around the storage room and bumped her head. Arnav heard her scream in pain and ran to rub her head.

"Khushi you okay?" She looked into his eyes filled with concern and began looking at him with desire.

When it hurt I ease the pain girl, caress your frame

Arnav took her and sat her on a chair and began examining her forehead with his mobile light.

She felt tearful at his words and began fighting back her tears.

Khushi listened to him intently and was touched by his concern for her pain. He kept blowing on her forehead.
Each word of the song replicated their story and what Arnav wanted to say to Khushi but could not say.

He lovingly cupped her face and she looked down feeling guilty that she had aggravated him so much that he was hurting himself. They were lost into each other's eyes and then looked away.

"Sir you might as well go asleep it's really late, I'm fine". Arnav nodded and moved off. Both found themselves separate corners and sat there till they went asleep.
