I understand you pov completely...you are right this smile thing is given much importance...but i feel the word is used to show the depth of pain she has suffered from...and how she is unable to smile...not to actually make her smile by illa ji...

may be due to the burden of responsibilities and situations she faced during her life...the traumas...the rudeness...the loneliness...she lost the ability to smile...She just don't relate to the word...as we have seen her trying to smile three times in the show...but she has to put her fingers and even the kids did the same...smile cannot be forced into someone ...she tries sometimes but than it's a natural thing...a natural phenomenon and it comes from the inner heart...but because of the life she spend till today ...may be her heart is always scared about future ...and she don't live each moment of life . When the heart is never happy than smile automatically isn't on the face . Sometimes more than getting happiness ...people are scared about the future of the happiness...will it remain there and stuff ...and when you aren't happy inside...scared...confused...not yet ready for the happiness... ..you can't smile...and thus such a beautiful gesture...a smile isn't in their luck...
moreover cvs use this thing...asking indira to smile at wrong situations ...just because they can't let the char smile showing her as a hitler.( for them smile means end of hitler ...atlast end of show )...imagine she was first asked to smile and when she was trying...but she knew no one in her family was happy about marriage...they took money to join the marriage and she was family oriented...and then too add more ...she got to know about her brother...the only hope of her life being handicapped...now person trapped in such a circumstance cannot smile...they showed children with her... she got angry with them and sit on the sofa...and when they asked to smile...she was thinking about late ho raha hain...a situation where she had to hurry and no time for smiling...than at rishi's going to die scene...how can a wife smile at that scene...i smile too much...but even if i could have been in the place i could have not been able to smile...
and as she too is a human being and belongs to the word...so the natural things happened to her...may be she din't laugh or smile whole heartedly at beautiful situations ...because of her fear regarding future but she does show glimpses...like on her birthday...when she saw the kulfi waala...and imagined indar calling to hug her...and when the inshi hug in the rain...so it's not like she never responds...she do...but to the extent she can...
in life all people are different...some laugh much...some laugh less...some dont laugh...depends on person to person...
and indira will laugh ...laugh hard the day she will not be scared of future...the day her to be husband will take the responsibilities ...will do a job...
for me ...i never found flaws in the character indira ...i love the way she care for others ...live for others...even for rishi...she wore the sari yesterday just because he wanted to see her like that...she always always think about others first... i loved the character from the core of my heart...i respect illa ji for maintaining the essence of the character...if she starts smiling...dreaming of marriage...then marriage and then kids...there will be nothing special about her...i want her to be special like always...the hitlerpana to be included in everything...the show is about her and her hitlergiri...the name is hitler didi...the elimination of hitlergiri will left it nowhere in my opinion...it's not about a guy who come to hitler and make her a normal girl...its just he wants her heart to be happy...and that's not in control of anyone of them...its about a guy who loves a hitler...don't want to change her...love is unconditional...a cute love story between the two leads is projected...but it had to be different from others in every way,...as its said

edited --and about sameer thing...if you carefully notice...she was crying...that was more of a relaxation...aakhir us case ladne ki wajah se uski behen ki izzat to wapas nahi aayi na...and then after seeking her sis rejected the marriage...and is lonely...alone...deep in pain...how can she smile ...even mandira wasn't smiling at the moment...moreover she listened to simi's and rishi conversation and then rishi giving every credit to her...
and i would like to highlight this too...as it's sad...being a mother surely makes you happy...the feeling is like that...i will say .it happened as a dream...nothing happened actually...so dint felt the feelings a mother go through when she give birth to a child...dreams and reality have difference...moreover dream was shown by rishi...it was projected through rishi's pov...indira was just watching...
