Part 17:
He glared at her after about twenty minutes, and she was yet to give a sign of ending her conversation. Khushi's grin faded, and looked at the wall clock and realized she had talked for too long. She soon told Lavanya that she would call her later, and ended the call. And before he could so much as even open his mouth, Khushi apologized, and told him that she would get her sketchbook, and left.
She returned after ten minutes, wearing a pink pajama and a matching top, which had a quote on it, saying, "Warning: I have an attitude and I know how to use it." Arnav barely hid his smile, as she sat down on the plush carpet, next to him, and started spreading out her stationaries. When she was satisfied with it, she opened her book, folded her hands to send a silent prayer to her Devi Maiyya. Arnav chuckled to himself at the scene she created.
The rest of the afternoon, went by with him preparing the presentations and all the facts and figures he needed for the meeting with the sponsors, the next day. He was about to close his laptop when his eyes went to Khushi who was considering the design in her hand with acute concentration. She had designed a strapless gown, which supposedly had two layers of cloth. The bottom one was a bright pink color, and the top layer was a flimsy, cream colored cloth. The gown hugged the figure near the waist before it cascaded in waves, and the bottom layer ending with a smudged, vibrant shades of pink and blue.
She scrunched her nose, and Arnav knew she would be tearing off the page mercilessly the next moment, and he held her hand, and she looked up in surprise. "Its not that good. . . ." Khushi said doubtfully, He took her sketchbook and the pencil from her hand, and started to efficiently sketch the replica of her design in a few minutes, as Khushi gaped at him in wonderment. Instead of using pink and blue, he used pink, violet, and streaks of red in between, to make it look all the more vibrant.
Khushi smiled at the end result of it, and looked up to see him smiling down at her. "Like it?" Arnav asked, and she nodded excitedly. He kissed her nose before he turned back the pages to see what else she had created. He had been right in choosing her for this project, he thought. Sighing, as he closed it, he found her looking at him apprehensively. As if she was afraid that he would not like such beautiful creations! She really had to improve on her self confidence, he thought, as he bent to claim her lips. She put a hand on his chest, stopping him from kissing her, and his eyebrows immediately furrowed in irritation. It was a rule that she wouldn't stop him. That she shouldn't stop him! It wasn't that established, a rule. Nevertheless, he had made it more than clear on that very day.
She knelt in front of him and cupped his face, as she asked, "First tell me, how the designs were?"
His eyebrows shot up, as he looked wryly at her, as he replied, "I was about to do just that!"
"Ho. . How. . . Oh!!" Khushi had started to question, when she got his meaning, and her eyes turned thoughtful. 'A man of less words!!' her own thought of a few days ago, flashed once again, across her mind. She looked back to his eyes, and sighed once, her lips parting in surrender, as her eyes closed on their own volition. Arnav smirked as he rose in one fluid motion, and said, "They are all good, Khushi. Lets go for tea, come on!" He turned at the door to see Khushi huffing in anger. She rushed past him, and down the stairs, and into the kitchen, where Anjali was preparing pakorays.
She started frying them, making Anjali sit down, as Arnav came to the kitchen, leaned against the door jamb, and watched Khushi with a smirk. Anjali was a silent spectator to all this, and finally she asked, "Have you both fought?! AGAIN??!! I'm sure you must have done something, Chotey!"
"Me?! Ask her. What did I do, Khushi? Tell her!! Or should I ask you what didn't I do?!" Arnav asked with an expression so innocent, it could put a kid to shame! "You!! I. . . Ugh!!" Khushi sputtered, unable to stop the blush that spread across her cheek, and she stomped out of the kitchen. "Chotey?!" Anjali had started, when Arnav smiled at her, gesturing he would handle her as he turned and started walking towards Khushi had gone to.
He found her on the terrace, pouting at nothing in particular, as she sat on the swing, one of her leg under her, and the other lightly pushing the swing. Arnav sat next to her, and she tried being all nonchalant about it, and failed. As she felt Arnav's unwavering gaze on her, her shoulders slumped as she muttered, "I don't like being teased. . . ."
Arnav smiled at the cute expression on her face, as he pulled her close and up on his lap. "Not even by me??" He murmured, as he skimmed his nose against her cheek, inhaling her intoxicating scent, and she closed her eyes in response to his action. Khushi sighed as her arms went around his neck, and she murmured back, "Not in front of anybody. . . . ."
"Hmm. . ." Arnav nodded and made note of it, as his lips brushed against the sensitive spot behind her ear, and she giggled, and pulled back, "Arnavvv!! We didn't have our tea! And Di has prepared pakorays!!! Come on, now!! Lets have some!!" Khushi told with excited voice, as if pakorays held her life in them, and she couldn't afford to miss them!
Anjali pouted as she munched on a pakora, and Shyam on entering the kitchen found his wife in a very peeved state. "Anjali?? Kya hua??" He questioned, and she complained that her brother wasn't as close to her, as he used to be. "Really? And why do you think so??" Shyam asked, his eyes showing his amusement, which his wife didn't see in her anger. She started telling him how there was something going on in between Khushi and Arnav and how both of them hadn't told her a word yet. "Anju. . ." said Shyam, distracting her by calling her with the endearment which he reserved when they usually made love, "They are not kids. And you know how your brother is! He doesn't prefer to talk about his love life! Whenever we have come to know about him dating some model, it has been through the media. Not through him! And what makes you think he might tell the status of his relationship with Khushi to you??"
"Okay, fine! But Khushi?? At least she can tell!!" Anjali chided, and Shyam's smile turned into a full fledged grin. "What??" Anjali asked suspiciously, and turned to see where Shyam was staring. Arnav and Khushi were coming down the stairs, her ever-so-stern-faced Chotey had his arm around Khushi's waist as if it was the most natural thing to happen, and Khushi's face practically glowed as she told him something and smiled, happy with herself at making him smile.
"Let them enjoy their first love, Anju. . . . . And we shall remember our's. . . ." Shyam said, as he kissed his wife's forehead, making her close her eyes, sigh and smile in contentment, before he went to the living room, turning on his favorite news channel, and waited everybody to assemble for tea.
For Khushi, the whole of the evening passed in dodging the sometimes heated, and sometimes amused gaze of Arnav. Shyam and Anjali smiled knowingly at each other, whenever they saw this happen, Anjali feeling overwhelmed at the fact that her Chotey seemed to be genuinely interested in Khushi, and Shyam feeling happy for him too.
Finally, it was time for bed, and she was allowed to sleep only after Arnav had made sure that he had been given a thorough good night kiss by her. The thought of which made Khushi smile goofily as she slipped into a deepest slumber.

Khushi woke with a smile on her lips, and hummed a song to herself, as she started getting ready for work. She wore a white, half-sleeve button-down shirt, and a beige three-fourth pant, and put on a pair of brown, high heeled sandals. Tucking her shirt in and pulling her hair up in a stylish bun, she looked absolutely professional. She gave a final touch of gloss to her lips, and went downstairs.
Arnav, who was busy in poring over the newspaper at the dining table, looked up as soon as he sensed her nearby, and gave an overall look, and smiled appreciatively, making the recipient of the gaze blush under his scrutiny. Mamiji, mamaji, and naniji hadn't returned from the temple, to which Mamiji had gone very grudgingly. Anjali had stayed back, as she had felt uneasy that same morning, and Shyam wouldn't allow her to remove herself from his line of vision.
Hence breakfast was a silent affair between Anjali and Shyam, Arnav and Khushi, and Akash. Akash, on grasping what was transpiring between Arnav and Khushi, teased Khushi regarding this, and he was suddenly being shot daggers at by four pairs of eyes.
Khushi looked with a stern look on her face giving Akash a message that such teasing won't be taken in good nature.
Anjali and Shyam's looks were mixture of annoyance and apprehension. Annoyance at Akash's unabashed teasing, apprehension due to the fact that Arnav may refuse the fact in his usual outright angry behavior. Anger and Arnav together always was bad news.
And Arnav's glare was such a casual thing, that nobody cared WHY he as glaring.
"What????" Akash said in a meek voice, as he bent his head back to have his breakfast. "Its good ki NK bhai is coming!" He muttered, and Arnav's head snapped up, as he questioned, "What? NK is coming?!"
"Yes! He called me last night!" Akash exclaimed, making Arnav groan. Khushi looked at Arnav, wondering why he was getting all worked up about this NK guy, whoever he was. Arnav gulped down his juice, and stood up to leave. But Khushi had hardly touched her breakfast, and now she neatly rolled a parantha and took the juice that Anjali poured into a travel mug for her, and stood up with him and followed him. They drove in silence, as Khushi finished eating her breakfast. She then turned to Arnav as she commented, "You seem to be very upset about something, driver??? Need any help??" Drawling unnecessarily on the word, "Driver", and seducing Arnav a little.
Arnav's eyebrows had raised when he was called a driver, but turned when he made sure he wouldn't accidentally run into any vehicle, and said, "That depends on how you want to help, ma'am. . ."
"Anything you want, driver, and it will be yours. . ." Khushi said, as her fingers traced his temples, ears, and cheeks, his arms and finally rested on his thigh. Arnav shot her a wry look, his left eyebrow raised as his lips curved in a Khushi's crooked smile. "Taking advantage of the fact that my hands are elsewhere occupied --- Khushi?" The way he said her name reminded her of the way he had punished her yesterday, making her shiver, and him smirk, as he came to know his statement had hit the right spot.
He held her hand, and pulled her to him, his eyes easily concentrating on the road as he murmured to her ears, "I might take you on that. . . . But later today. . . ."
Khushi pulled back, and looked out of the window, smiling at the demanding edge in Arnav's voice. Maybe other woman might have cribbed that he wasn't offering her the required personal space. But she loved that aspect of him the most. "Who is NK, BTW??" Khushi asked after a while, and watched Arnav's face express his irritation. "He's mamiji's relative. Annoying creature, it is!!" he answered, making Khushi guffaw in amusement.
"Well I'm glad I amuse you. But I want you to stay away from him. I just don't trust him!" Arnav muttered, remembering the endless stories of his girlfriends, which he had narrated even after knowing Arnav was least interested. Khushi smiled at him, as she bent to give him a peck on his cheek, making him smile in satisfaction. . . . . . . . . .
