Truth - Does It Always Make Us Right?

From yesterday's and today's episodes, I have been thinking about truth and how it is used as a justification. If by truth we mean that given a choice between lying and speaking the truth, we speak the truth, then truth is definitely the path to take. If pointing out others' weaknesses and mistakes to make them feel badly even though it is true, then the truth is not being used in a justified way. Truth as the absence of falsehood = good. Truth as a weapon to hurt others = bad. Although nothing is this black and white...there are all shades of truth...depending on our own interpretation of events, the truth is not always absolute.

Now this brings me to Kokila. In yesterday's episode, she told Baa that everyone knows she always speaks the truth and is always for the truth. In today's episode, she again said she was only speaking the truth. Now I agree, Kokila does not tells lies. She does not make up stories. What she says is most likely true, but does that mean it always has to be said? Does every mistake need to be pointed out even if it is true? And if we constantly do that, aren't we using the truth as justification for being unkind? I am not saying anyone or Kokila should lie, but we all know that it isn't WHAT we say, but HOW we say it. Even the truth needs to be spoken with a degree of kindness. Truth spoken with an attitude is arrogance. Just because one speaks the truth doesn't make that person special. Hopefully, all of us don't lie, but also hopefully most of us don't go around pointing out every wicked and painful truth.

(N. B. And just so no one thinks I'm bashing Kokia, I love her character and believe she wants the best for all...but just didn't like the writers making it seem that truth always justifies everything that is said to others.)

Very nice post .. new angle to the truth👏

- I don't think truth should be spoken with kindness... truth is bitter and truth is painful. for the person on the wrong side.. that is why from rashi's perspective it seems harsh...but that is reality and that is why people will hate koki, thinking she is being unkind to rashi

- If kokila had not shown rashi's truth or pointed out her mistakes... can you guess if rashi will ever learn a thing all her life - Naa...never

- Elders are one who point out the mistakes and make us learn from them... Koki is speaking the truth and pointing out rashi's mistakes only for rashi's benefit... Kokila does not gain anything for her own self from pointing out rashi's mistakes..it is wholly for rashi's future when HeKi are not around...

-When koki takes on her shoulders to teach and make rashi learn from her mistakes... people think her to be unkind and taunting and dominating...

- a MIL like hetal should teach her and tell her ...but we know hetal does not say anything to rashi.. she just covers the mistake... Koki speaks truth, to show rashi's mistakes..from rashi's POV it is harsh, because truth is bitter

- Why do you think, she points out her mistakes, because she cares and concerns for Rashi's future...she want rashi to look after the house.. cook a meal without any mistake.
makes a mistake ,

truth is truth .. truth does not have arrogance, attitude and unkindness...how can you say truth with kindness...may be you mean saying truth slowly like hetal in a low tone "Rashi dikra...next time don't make any mistakes" but is there a punishment is there a lesson learnt for rashi from that...

Koki knows how to talk, to whom to talk,. when to talk and where to talk ... she is fair lady without any bias...she does use the same unkind truth to point out mistakes of gopi, rashi and Ahem...

Kokila Modi is a woman of principles.. woman who is unbiased ... woman whose family is her world...woman of truth and firm believer of what is right and wrong..if she is on the wrong side ...she will not see place and time and people around.. she just apologizes to the person whom she wronged

Truth is truth, truth is naked , it need not be adorned with kindness, attitude and arrogance or pride or sweetness

these are my views about Koki
Kokila Parag Modi ... hats off for being the woman you are👏

What a thoughtful post😛
I am going with Munni though.. I do not feel there is something called a kind truth and an unkind truth.. Truth always sounds unkind because it is the truth.
For the person on the receiving end, truth is always unkind. It is never kind for truth shows them the mirror to see their mistakes. There is a saying in my mother tongue.. People tend to take undue advantage when they are told things kindly and resort to tears when told right in the face..

Rashi tries to justify her behavior in the exact same way. She gets hurt by Kokila because she cannot find a way to get out of the truth that is being stated. How many times have we seen Rashi come up with an excuse when her MIL has asked her to do something worthwhile?

When we enjoy the gains and praises of falsehood, truth will naturally hurt for it shows us exactly where we stand. It is always better to be unkind to be kind.. Confusing isn't it?

It is better to be accused of being unkind but show the person the right path by saying the truth than by spoiling the person with kindness.. It is better in the longer run..
If you ignore the short term hurt, at long term you give the person happiness. Making a child a brat by being kind when it needs a nice lesson is worse..

hmmm. Really interesting OP Carole! 👍🏼

I believe Koki can be a tad harsh yes. She can certainly use a more diplomatic approach. Having said that I believe Rashi needs the tough love approach. She would never appreciate a softer touch ala Hetal.

Had she shown growth and change since coming to MM I believe Koki would have toned down. But she is showing no signs of improvement. Leaving Koki no choice but to blast.

Loved your post...

Kokilas is a great character ... Kokila would not be kokila if rashi was not there in the house...forcing kokila to open her mouth.
