All, tsunami alert issued - Banda Acheh 8.9... Same place the Indian ocean tsunami happened. Felt in my office...

Stay away from the seas! Listen to news!

Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand... It was really shaking!

Hi, sorry for being so brief earlier.

Earthquake had been downgraded from 8.9 to 8.6 on the richter scale.

There was another aftershock measuring 8.2

Experts (Pacific Tsunami Monitoring Centre) are measuring the waves at this very moment, and they are saying that there have been some significant results...the Indonesian govt has given another hour or so before calling off the alert. Indian Ocean Alert still on...

I felt my table, chair and computer monitor shake for about 2 minutes at around 4:40pm (malaysian time) in the office... Was a shocking experience...Luckily I received an alert from CNN about the quake about 10 mins later (which was quite fast!) so I got to know what had happened in Indonesia.

One of the main reasons about 230,000 people died in the Indian Ocean Tsunami in Dec 2004 was lack of information- people in India, for example, did not know what had happened in Banda Aceh (the huge quake)...and they had no idea on how the earthquake could cause a devastating tsunami that killed so many people...

Thanks to social platforms, we are able to pass on information to more people around the world, faster now...

I live in Malaysia, a place called Ipoh, which is about 2.5 hours from Kuala Lumpur, our capital. Ipoh is about 6 hours away from Singapore ( by road) and Indonesia is one of our nearest neighbours..

Ipoh has NEVER experienced an earthquake tremor before. This only proves that anything can happen at any time...

Anyway, until the tsunami alert is taken down officially I hope that everyone listens to the news, and keeps themselves informed... Stay away from the ocean and remember, receding sea water is a MAJOR sign of an impeding tsunami...

ya in my plcae also tsunami alert has been given

plzz lemme know...plzz keep updating!

i heard about a tsunami hiting mumbai and TN at 5.50 pm IST timing...plzz can u confirm ???

I remember the last tsunami, was in Singapore at that time.

I felt the shake it was early morning I think, I was sleeping at that time. Then found out that tsunami has struck Indonesia all the way to Chennai India, Srilanka, Thailand and Malaysia.

Keep safe do not go near the sea.

Yes, there is a tsunami alert...my head office is in Chennai (TN) ..some offices have closed and sent people home...my office people were asked to stay outside for a couple of hours, now they're back in...My BIL's there. in Chennai too .hope he's all right...

I have also heard that tsunami is likely to hit Chennai 5 pm.. Hope it doesn't!

I don't know about Mumbai...Andhra Pradesh as well as West Bengal under alert.

I felt the tremors in Bangalore at 2:18 pm...not much, guess I felt it because my head was against the headrest of the bed..
