Part 1

A car stopped in front of the Raichand Mansion and Arnab came out of it. He opened the back door and Madhu stepped out followed by a girl with long curly hair dressed in a long skirt and top. Arnab put his arm around the girl's shoulders and said, "Lets go Piya." Piya was very nervous because she didn't know any of the other Raichands. She was comfortable with Arnab and Misha because they visited her, a couple of times in Mumbai with Madhu. Madhu told the driver to bring the luggage inside and they walked towards the entrance. As soon as they entered, Haseena and Chand spotted them and went to greet them.

"Piya, this is Chand bhaisaab and Haseena bhabhi," Madhu introduced Chand and Haseena.

Chand smiled and said, "Welcome Piya."

"Piya, make yourself comfortable here and don't hesitate about anything because now you are part of the family," Haseena added.

Piya smiled at them and said, "Thank you so much Uncle and Aunty."

"PIYAAA!" Suddenly a voice called.

They all got startled when all of a sudden Misha came zooming towards Piya, hugged her and said, "I'm so happy you came." Piya laughed a little at her over reaction.

"Misha, show Piya her room and Piya you freshen up and have some rest," Madhu instructed Misha and she took Piya whilst the others got busy with their work. As they reached the top of the stairs they found two figures stood facing them.

"Er... that is Dipannita Aunty and her son Jeh. Aunty, this is Piya my cousin." Misha told her.

Dipannita gave a forced smile and said, "Hello Piya, I heard you'll be staying here now. Anyway, please excuse me."

Piya felt coldness in Dipannita's voice. Jeh was gazing at Piya but didn't speak a word and went off with his mother.

"Don't mind them they just prefer to be left alone. Come on lets go to your room." Misha said.

In Piya's room, they were laughing and talking when Misha noticed long manicured fingernails at the edge of the slightly open door. She got up and walked towards the door and said, "Piya, you haven't met Bimboshree Ambolkar have you?"

"Who?" Piya asked

With a jerk Misha opened the door and T, who had been leaning against the door fell inside the room and shouted, "Ouch!"

"Misha! She must be hurt." Piya went to T and helped her to her feet.

Misha folded her arms and said, "Serves her right for eavesdropping."

"Don't touch me you behenji." T said nastily to Piya and then she turned to Misha. "And you will pay for this you freak."

"And you know where the door is, loser." Misha said.

T walked off tripping and almost falling again with her 6 inch heels. Misha and Piya looked at each other.

Two Weeks Later

Two weeks had passed since Piya first arrived at the Raichand Mansion. Initially she was shy of everyone and would stay in her room all the time but after Arnab's order she started mixing with the others. For the first time Piya experienced what it was like to live in a family and she loved it. She had become comfortable with everyone except Dipannita, Jeh and T. One person who Piya still had not met was Siddharth's younger brother Abhay, who she heard was on a holiday with his friends. The school holidays had almost come to an end and college was going to start in a week. Piya was very excited about college and couldn't wait to go.

Piya, Misha and T were at the dining table having breakfast. Chand, Arnab and Siddharth had left for office. Jeh was reading a newspaper sitting in the lounge and Haseena, who sat beside him, was on the phone.

Haseena angrily, "So finally you got the time to pick up my calls? Don't give me excuses, Abhay just tell me are you coming back or not... You've spent all your holidays with your friends, only one week is left for college to start and you still have no plans to come back... don't you miss us at all? Stop apologizing... Be ready to face your punishments when you come back!"

Saying that Haseena cut the call. She had been quite loud so over at the dining table Piya, Misha and T heard her conversation.

"Oh I miss my baby so much." T said sadly.

Misha let out a fake gasp and said, "When did you get pregnant?"

T angrily, "Shut up Misha! I'm talking about Abhay."

Whilst Misha and T started taunting each other, Piya caught Jeh staring at her but as soon as she looked at him, he narrowed his eyes and walked away and Piya was freaked out.

...

At night everyone went to their respective rooms to sleep. Piya wasn't feeling sleepy so she went to the study. As she opened the door, she saw Siddharth working in the study and decided to leave.

Siddharth noticed her and called, "Piya, Do you need anything?"

"No actually I just thought I'd read a book but I don't want to disturb you." Piya replied.

Siddharth smiled, "Why would that disturb me. Just help yourself."

Piya went towards the bookshelf and started to look at the books and Siddharth carried on with his work.

After a while Siddharth asked, "So do you like reading?"

"Yes, do you?"

"I love reading. What's your favourite book?"

"Wuthering heights."

"Really? That's my favourite too."

They had a good chat and it got quite late so both decided to go and sleep. When they were coming out of the study Piya was about to lose her balance and fall but Siddharth supported her and she thanked him. On the first floor landing, Dipannita had been watching them furiously and then she walked off.

Dipannita was pacing in her room thinking about something. Jeh was sitting on the bed with a bored expression on his face and T was at the dressing table checking out Dipannita's lipsticks. Dipannita stopped and realised what Jeh and T were doing. She screamed, "You both are useless!" T was startled and dropped a lipstick on the floor and Jeh sat up, "I always do all the thinking and planning and you two do nothing... I have just realised why Madhu has brought that girl, Piya in this house."

Hearing the name Piya, Jeh looked up and asked, "Why mom?"

"Madhu wants Piya to get married to Siddharth and that sharp girl has already started to trap him," Dipannita answered.

Jeh angrily, "It's always Siddharth and Abhay. It's like there is no other boy in this family."

"So T when is Sid marrying you?" Dipannita asked.

"Er... when?" T started thinking fast what to say. "But why Sid Aunty why not Abhay? Abhay's already interested in me and he's more fun-"

Dipannita cut across her, "Tanushree, Abhay is a careless boy not even of marriage age yet! One day, all the business will go under the control of Siddharth and if we get him under our control we will have everything. We will rule."

"But Aunty-"

Dipannita had had enough, "OUT! Get Out!"

T got scared and ran out of the room.

Dipannita turned to Jeh, "And what are you doing for your mother, Jeh? I told you to join office and get some experience. But you went for two days and then stopped. You've wasted all your holidays sitting home and doing nothing."

Jeh was quiet.

Dipannita carried on, "Have you forgotten how much I have suffered? Your dad left us because of these Raichands. They used to tell him things against me because unlike Haseena and Madhu, I was from a middle-class family. We are only living here to destroy them and usurp their property."

Jeh was sad listening to all this. He knew his mom had an unhappy life but a lot of the things she told him had loose ends and at times didn't make any sense. However, he was sure everything was true. Just like Sid and Abhay got all the attention at home, Haseena and Madhu must have got more importance than his mom.

"Sorry mom, I won't disappoint you next time," Jeh finally said.

Dipannita nodded at him and Jeh left the room.

...

At 2 a.m. in the morning, a tall boy entered the Raichand Mansion with a suitcase in his hand and walked stealthily up the stairs in the dark. He was heading towards his destination when he saw Haseena with an empty jug coming out of her room. "Sh*t mom's awake," he thought. "Abhay if she sees you, she won't spare you." Thinking fast, Abhay hurried into the opposite direction and entered into one of the guestrooms. It was dark but Haseena was sure she saw some movement. Inside the dark guestroom, Abhay stood leaning against the door trying to sense if Haseena was near. Haseena went and checked Abhay's bedroom, which was empty. She started missing her son but suddenly got angry that he's least bothered and slammed the door shut.

Over in the guestroom, Abhay was too tired and sleepy and had no strength to endure his mom's yelling if caught so he decided to spend the night there. He removed his jacket, threw it on the couch and got inside the warm bed... but he was not alone...
