Background: After reading few posts around here and having experienced this depressing week, I wish to share some of my opinions. The topic is to rationalize the existence of excessive-celebrations. The assumption here is that most of the viewers don't like too much celebrations (1-3 per year is OK but 5-10 per year is excess and remember these celebrations usually last for a week).

Topic: Serial-Festival: A necessary Evil

Viewers don't like excessive celebrations, but writers still do it. So, one can say that writers are disconnected from the viewers. Realistically, this can't entirely be true and I assume that writers do keep a check (eg: via IF) to know the status of their fans. So being reasonable by assuming that the writers are not idiots, we need more options to explain this apparent contradiction (Fans are unhappy but excessive celebrations still exist!!).

Conclusion:
After giving much thought, I feel there is one reason which is actually very obvious but not very apparent to the viewers. That is, the celebrations are NOT entirely for the comedy-liking fans, but for the actors/actress themselves!

Reasoning:
Advantages (to the writers/producers) of excessive celebrations:

  • The cast can wear really fancy clothes. If there were no celebrations, then the cast would probably become less cheerful because of their everyday mundane clothes.
  • The cast can express and develop their other talents. Celebrations usually involved dance, singing, games and beyond-the-character expressions. All of these will keep the actors and actresses a little content as they can be rest assured that they can develop and portray their extra talent without having to leave the show.
  • Promotion!!: Many people want to promote their show and therefore they come to TMKOC. But these promoting people (I call them Ads inside the serial!!!) can't just walk-in, talk and go. So writers organize these celebrations where the Ad-promoters are treated as guests and then they give their message (ads).
  • Celebrations normally involve most of the cast. It must be noted that individual tracks are likely to be taken in the absence of other non-required actors/actresses. So, the cast come to set only when their acting is scheduled. This is not very good if it continues for too long because the producers may not be aware of what other of their actors are doing...they may even be leaving the show or acting somewhere else (old Rita for example). Doing more celebrations can avoid this because nearly all cast are available in such cases. It also helps in building a family-like relationship among the cast which inhibits the cast from leaving the show.
Moral of the story: Although we don't like celebrations but these are essential for the actors/actress to remain in the show and hence for the show to continue. It's like an exercise, it's tiring but still needed for the body...

3-click solution
(copyright): Solution for me is I just fast-forward the celebrations. I watched the last 4 episodes in 12 seconds. One click in the starting of the video, one in the middle and one click in the end of the video. Done!...in 3 seconds I get the gist of the celebration-episode.
