@nats024 thanks for liking the song, its one of my favorites and perfectly suited the situation in the story.

@all.. to know who is behind Geet, you people will have to wait for 1-2 updates, that is one other twist. So @namita25 don't worry, you haven't missed any thing😊. But till then, keep guessing 😊

So here is the next update. Am still writing, so I may put up one more update today.

NOT A FAIRY TALE

PART 20

The falling drops of rain woke her up. She found herself in Maan's arms. He was looking ahead. She looked towards his face and felt a sense of security automatically spreading through her body. She, unconsciously, relaxed in his arms. She was pretty scared earlier. Her wound had really started hurting and she was feeling dizzy. All this stress and pain was too much for her. Suddenly she realized that Maan had left her hand and said something to her, but she was unable to comprehend it then and saw him going away from her. She tried calling to him but only a low moan came out of her mouth, "Maan.." and then she had fainted.

He didn't realize she had woken up. He was desperately searching for a safe place for them to take shelter. He was very worried about Geet, the way she fainted, scared him. He was still struggling with the thought of what might have happened if those men had found her before him. Suddenly he saw an outline of what looked like a cottage, at some distance. "Lagata hai vahan koi tharne ki jagah hai. Hume vahan hi jana chayia, isse phale ki yeh toofan aur teez ho jaye" His eyes darted to look towards Geet's fainted form, but was a little surprised to see her looking intently at him. He saw some different emotions playing in her eyes, there was neither fear, nor anxiety in them, but relief and trust. Like she was happy to be in his arms and felt safe there. He snapped from his thoughts.. "Geet, tumhe hosh aa gaya. Mujhe pata hi nhi chala ki tim kaab vahan behosh ho gayi, issliyia aage bad gaya. Paar aab tum theek ho na?" concern for her was clearly visible in his eyes.

Geet, too suddenly snapped out from her thoughts and looked away. She could not meet his eyes. She didn't understand what emotions she was experiencing, what was it that her heart was trying to tell her. She simply nodded her head not able to speak anything. Her actions puzzled him a little. "Geet, mujhe lagta hai ki yeh toofan abhi aur teez hone wala hai, aur shayad woh gunde abhi bhi hume dhoond hi rhe honge. Aaisi haalat me hum jungle se iss waqt nikal nhi payange. Ujhe vahan ek cottage sa kuch dikahyi de rha hai. Issliyia mujhe lagta hai ki humara abhi ke liyia vahan jana hi theek rahega. Barish band ho jayegi, tab hum jungle se niklne ki koishish kar payenge."

She again simply nodded her head, still not looking towards him. She tried to stand, but he grabbed her.

"Geet, tumhe abhi bhi kafi kamzoori hai. Main tumahe vahan tak le ja sakta hun " She did not protest and simply stayed where she was. He carried her to that cottage.

It looked like those small 'Jungle hangout' cottages, which sometimes some people, looking for adventures, use to spend a night in jungle. There was a lock at the door.

"Geet ekk minute, main bas abhi aata hun", he made her stand, slowly and disappeared in the jungle. His brief absence scared Geet. It was hardly 5 minutes since Maan had gone, Geet started calling out for him. "Maan sir, Maan sir.." when suddenly someone closed her mouth from behind and started dragging her away. She got terrified, as she feared it might one of those men. But Geet Handa had not learnt to give up so easily. She gathered all her strength and bit hard into the hand, covering her mouth.

Maan would have cried out very loudly, had those men not been around. She had bitten his hand very hard. Geet was still holding onto his hand's flesh between her teeth, waiting for him to remove it from her mouth, but he kept his hand there and turned her around. Geet was shocked to see him and froze instantaneously. He pointed towards the moving bushes, showing her the approaching men. Geet's eyes darted towards that place. She was still looking there, when Maan whispered urgently "Geet" she immediately looked towards him. He was pointing towards his hand, which was still in the deadly clutches of her teeth. She immediately freed his hand and both of them looked towards his palm. A neat imprint of her full 'battassi' could be seen there. Maan looked at her in anger, but before he could say anything, he saw someone approaching her side and immediately ducked both of them and made way towards the bushes behind the house. By this time, the rain had halted for sometime.

"Tum log iss ghar ko acche se check karo. Agar woh dono iss taraf aayenge honge to zaroor iss ghar me hi chupe hoge" they her one of the men giving orders to the others. They kept hidden in the bushes. After sometime, they heard " Sir, humne saab check kar liyia, iss ghar pe to abhi bhi tala laga hua hai, aur saari khidki bhi band hain, aandar se koi awaz bhi nhi aa rhi hai. Mujhe lagta hai ki woh iss taraf aaye hi nhi hain"

"Theek hai, to phir hum doosari taraf check karate hain, shayad woh dono vahan gaye hon" said the first one and they all left from there.

Maan Geet, remained hidden for some more time, to be sure that all of the men had left. Maan felt that something was pinching his hand, but was avoiding the pain, since he was keeping an eye on those men. But now he turned his head to look at the source and found that Geet was holding his arm tightly in both her hands, digging her nails, hard, into his flesh. Her eyes were tight shut and she seemed to be murmuring something. He shouted "GEET.." and she immediately snapped open her eyes. "Geet, kya tumahare dimag koi bhi doubt hai ki main tumahe protect kar rha hun, tumhe maarne ke koshish nhi"

"Nahi sir, koi doubt nhi hai, aap aise kyun puch rhe hai" she asked him innocently.

"To phir tum itni deer se mujhe kyun maarne pe tuli hui ho" he shouted at her and she realized how she was clutching his hand, and immediately left it. Deep red marks from her nails could be clearly seen on his biceps.

Her hands automatically came in front of her mouth on seeing those marks, and she looked towards him, seeing his angry eyes. "Sorry sir" she said making a baby face and ran from there. "Geet.. kahan jar hi ho. Ruko" and he ran after her.

He grabbed her and pulled her near the house, looking around. "Geet, tum pagal ho gayi ho kya. Woh aadmi abhi bhi yahan ho sakte the.." before he could say more, it again started to rain.

He glared once at Geet and then left her to look for the stone he had brought earlier to break the lock, but had dropped it when he saw those men heading towards the cottage. Geet got puzzled, and went to him and pocked his shoulder "Maan sir, yeh aap kya kar rhe ho?"

Maan made a frustrated face and looked at her "Geet, tum do minute bhi shanty se khadi nhi ho sakti kya? Chup chap jaao aur vahan khadi ho jao"

"Par sir main to bas.." but his looks stopped her from speaking further and she turned to walk towards the cottage, but not without failing to utter "Dhushtasur kahi ke" under her breadth. Maan heard it, but let it go for the time being. He found his stone and started hitting the lock, on the door, in order to break it.

"Sir, yeh aap kya kar rhe hain.."

"Geet, maine kaha na ki chup chap vahan khadi raho.."

"Paar sir, yeh lock aise nhi tutega.."

"Geet, maine tumahari advise nhi mangi hai, jab chayia hogi, to bula lunga, ok, aab chup ho jao"

Geet made an angry face, folded her hands and looked away. "Pata nhi kya smjhte hain aapne aapko. Inko to lagta hai ki dusaron ko to kuch aata hi nhi hai. Sab bas inhe hi aata hai"

Maan was ignoring her crabbings and went back to opening the lock. But it was an old lock, and wouldn't break so easily. He threw away the stone forcefully in frustration and moved a little away. Geet, who although was pretending to look the other side, but was constantly stealing glances towards him, gave out an audible sigh, removed a hairpin from her hair and moved to open the lock. The small click of opening of lock made Maan turn around to see Geet holding the lock in her hand, raised like a prize cup, beaming at him with a victory smile. Maan was a little surprised, but soon got back to his original Maan Singh Khurana mode and simply moved forward to open the door, completely ignoring Geet. Geet was taken aback by his response and her mouth opened in a big 'O'. "Khadoos Khurana" she thought and made her way inside, in her full Handa attitude, brushing away Maan's shoulder, who was still standing at the door.

She was just about to fall, when Maan grabbed her shoulder and straightened her. Geet looked at him in shock. "Yahan seedian hain aur light button kaam nhi kar rha hai"

Geet looked at him angrily and murmured under her bredth "to kya phale nhi bata sakte the mujhe"

"Tum sunti ho kabhi kisi ki?" he pulled out the plastic bag from his pocket, which had his mobile and switched it on. As expected, there were no signals, this deep in the jungle, but he flashed it's light to look inside the cottage.
