"Hey," he said, combining huskiness and easy conversation.
She jumped whilst the hairs of her hand stood up. His warm breath somewhere close to her nape with the voice had her heart racing. She quickly turned to face Armaan who was pleasantly standing before her, obviously enthralled by her reactions.
"What the hell are you doing here?" reprimanded Ridhima before she went back to checking out the latest books.
"Always the same question. Why Ridhima?" he asked.
"Because you turn up unexpectedly always and with an entrance that gives me hiccups," she said, annoyed. She hated being scared at. In the span of 2 weeks that she knew him, she had met him more than she hoped for and at different times.
"Hmm. Next time I will remember to come from where you can see me," Armaan said.
"You better," she said rolling her eyes.
"There you go again. You just love rolling your eyes, don't you?" said Armaan, chuckling for Ridhima gifted him more rolls and snares.
"So? Its surprisingly only to you that they happen to show more often," said Ridhima, pulling her hand through a sheaf of bestsellers
"I wonder why," said Armaan thoughtfully. Ridhima gazed at him for a second. On the second moment she was rolling her eyes again upon seeing Armaan's wide grin registering back on his lips.
She made a face and mentally noted to ignore him.
Even as she ignored him, Armaan followed her religiously and to give her reasons, he too began checking out the comics mindlessly. Ridhima, first frowned and then realizing that he was exactly the much needed company she hoped for wiped the expression off of her face.
"Where is Vivek?" asked Ridhima. She just remembered that they both were supposed to be together.
"He is with Aditi is in Giordano. Actually they were having a one way conversation when I left him before I came searching for you," said Armaan.
"Let me guess, Vivek wasn't the one doing the talking," said Ridhima giggling under her nose.
"Actually, it was Vivek doing all the rambling. I bet Aditi had cotton on her ears because she just didn't seem affected," said Armaan. Ridhima began to roll but then resisted and nodded with a silent laugh.
Ridhima walked up to the cashier with Armaan at her heels. She paid for the "The Hunger Games' trilogy that she bought. As she searched her purse, Armaan stopped himself from offering to pay. But she found her credit card in time. However, Armaan pulled back because he felt Ridhima would find it embarrassing and offensive to even depend on another person. The way she signed the receipt and genuinely thanked the cashier had Armaan floored. She was special and unlike most people, he fell for her tiniest actions that she indulged in unaware that someone was dissecting them and enjoying the beauty of it all.
Just as they came out of the book shop, they caught up with Aditi and Vivek who were now hand in hand. Ridhima couldn't help but smile at the adorable couple. One minute they were fighting World War 3 and the next they were living a Yash Raj film.
Armaan bent over Ridhima and whispered, "Do you think they will kiss in public?"
Ridhima looked at him meaningfully. Exactly the day after Rahul and Muskaan, Aditi pranked on Vivek with both of them voicing shameless gaalis. The result was Vivek being furious and carrying Aditi all the way to their room. Since the fight seemed a little out of hand, all others followed behind. For some time, they heard nothing from inside. Later when heavy moans came, they had panicked. It was only when Armaan had his eyes through the key hole, did they realize that the duo were kissing passionately.
"I am not quite sure, you know," said Ridhima, shrugging cutely.
"What are you too hush hushing?" Aditi pranced at them.
"Nothing. You bought anything?" asked Ridhima.
"Yup, two tops. I can't wear saris right. Not for another few more months," she said, nuzzling her baby bump. "You?"
"Just a trilogy I have been meaning to read in a long time," answered Ridhima, delighted at the fact and hugged her packet.
"She would have picked more had I not come and interrupted her," said Armaan as though he was proud about it. He looked at Ridhima wishing to see her roll. He did have the luck this time.
"You and your crazy love for books," Aditi said, shaking her head vigorously, "You didn't like any clothes?"
"I didn't check out any outlets yet," said Ridhima.
They had headed towards Gloria Jeans Coffee and now the girls seated themselves on the couches while the guys went to get sandwiches for it was already 6 and coffee was way past their time.
"You need to get something for yourself," said Aditi.
"I already went on a spree with Muskaan before the wedding. There really isn't anything I need," she said.
"That's with Muskaan. You got to come with me,"
The boys came in with the sandwiches and owing to the hunger they vanished in no time.
When they were done, Aditi dragged Ridhima into Debenhams. Vivek and Armaan followed the ladies. The former of the two was tired of women's clothes while the other's centre of attraction continued to whine in vain.
"Armaan. I will go mad with her. Go with her and get her to pick something," groaned Aditi after half an hour went by with Ridhima shaking her head to everything that Aditi showed her.
"You betcha," said a thrilled Armaan whose wide grins curled back as Ridhima shot him a glare.
"Why doesn't she understand that it takes me ages to like something and buy it for myself? UGH," complained Ridhima.
Armaan gazed at her for second or two to see her murmuring to herself. He lifted every third top as they walked through long aisles.
"I am definitely not seeing that again; forget taking it," said Ridhima, faking a gagged throat the awkward neon orange tank top.
Armaan frowned.
"How about this?" A dimpled Armaan flashed a floral cocktail dress.
"Hmm. It's nice. But I don't need it now. It's going to be winter right," said Ridhima. "I am just going to get myself few shirts."
"Why? You have got many. In fact I remember seeing you in a casual top only when we joined together at Vivi's house last week."
"I know that. But still. I need more for office and plus it's just all of your houses that I visit. I don't really go out so much. Nest and office takes a lot of my time."
"Fine. Then go for black and blue. They suit you the best," said Armaan casually.
At that Ridhima smiled without lifting her head. She was beginning secretly enjoyed the notice that Armaan hinted on her every now and then. Only she didn't want to admit it consciously as well as make it obvious to him. Over the past two weeks, they were several small moments when she felt that he just 'merged' with her life, gelled so well that even she didn't why it seemed right.
She nodded and picked a monotonous black, white and navy blue shirt. She went for a jacket as well for it was getting cold in Mumbai.
"What next?" asked Armaan.
"Erm. Armaan, I think I will go on from here," said Ridhima, hesitantly.
"Why? I didn't disturb nor did I give you an occasion to roll you eyes. Come, let's take a look at the new arrivals," said Armaan.
"Nope, it's not that. It's just.." began Ridhima stammering.
"Rubbish. I told you the shirt colours. Who knows? You will need me further also," said Armaan, proudly.
"ARMAAN," Ridhima raised an octave and spoke his name, flustered.
"What?" asked Armaan, raising his voice too. He just couldn't understand what was wrong with her?
"Armaan, go get me ice cream, please," said Ridhima turning her back to him.
"Ice-cream? But you told its getting cold. That's why you denied even choco chip wali ice cream," said Armaan too cutely for Ridhima's heart to suffer a momentary flip.
"Then sandwich, GO," grunted Ridhima.
"You just had a mighty one!," exclaimed Armaan.
"Then hang out with Vivek. He must need company. Aditi isn't exactly a good one when she is in shopping mode," said Ridhima, keeping cool.
"Nah! Vivi's perfectly fine. Besides, three will be a crowd," said Armaan, looking over the stand to the couple standing by the men's wear section.
"Armaan, seriously. Do something. PLEASE," begged Ridhima.
"Huh? I am doing exactly that," said Armaan, happily.
By now Ridhima had lost her cool. She glared at her and picking his chin and angled it so that his big fat eyes could see the lettering on the board a few metres from them.
It sunk into Armaan much later. In big black letters was written 'WOMEN'S LINGERIE'. Ridhima had a small blush creeping on her cheeks.
"Now will you leave me to my peace," said Ridhima, covering up.
Armaan met her eyes. At first, he was embarrassed and then realizing that he wasn't the one who was supposed to hide, he grinned hard much to Ridhima' annoyance.
"I will," he said, smiling and headed towards Vivek.
After taking a few steps, he halted his track and said, "On the contrary, can I stay?" He pouted innocently and like a puppy blinked his eyes.
Ridhima 'HAW'ed her mouth into a 36o degree curve before going all the way to him and kicking his legs.
"Ow! Just asked," he managed.
He ran off before Ridhima could pounce on him and even as he went, his ringing laughter waved through Ridhima. She bit her lips hard sure that her cheeks were visibly hot.
Chapter completed finally. I had to wait because I wrote something else but I thought it would be too much for one chapter. I will dilute it and put the tweaked portion in another chapter. Too much of AR is not my forte as a writer. I love giving bits and bits. 😛
On a serious note. Thank You so very much for the immense response for Chapter 20. I really appreciate it so much. God Bless All of you. MUAH. Do keep them coming. <3
