The suspense for the eager Sahu Nagar residents got over in the late afternoon as they learnt of the news through those who attended the final recording at the Famous Studio earlier in the day. But they were still keen to watch Abhijeet's final performance and celebrate in the evening. The number of people increased steadily, as crowds gathered to greet his family. Everyone in the neighbourhood and the surrounding areas knows Abhijeet now. Half a kilometre away from his home, a young boy guided this journalist with great accuracy, and added the further statement: "Ask anybody where Abhijeet lives!" Sahu Nagar is more than festive, with all the locals warmly joining in, and considering themselves a part of the celebrations. People enchanged notes about Abhijeet's past, and his great success. Abhijeet is a third year Commerce student at the Chetna College in Bandra, northwest Mumbai. The college, also aware of the results before the telecast, was part of the evening's festivities, as the vice-principal and other staff members wished Abhijeet's parents at their home. "He is not very good in studies," said Abhijeet's proud father. "His studies were always affected because of his singing. But we did not have any objection to that. I always suggested he concentrate on the field in which he wants to make a career." With an interest in singing right from childhood, Abhijeet attended classical music classes at Kandivali, northwest Mumbai. Sridhar works at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Abhijeet lives with his parents and a younger sister, who is studying science in the 11th Standard. Don't Miss!
