The casting couch is out again in Bollywood. And this time round, it is acclaimed actor Irrfan, who has been made the villain of a sordid little drama that must now play itself out for voyeurs of this kind of entertainment.

Poor Irrfan, just when he was beginning to enjoy his first successful solo ride in Bollywood with the recent release Paan Singh Tomar, finds himself accused of deceitful intimacy by a small time actress

Incidentally, the Mumbai Police has taken the complaint of the actress lightly and has ended up registering a non cognizable offence (under section 506 IPC criminal intimidation) against Irrfan at the Juhu Police Station today.

In her complaint (as per the police), Mamta has claimed that Irrfan and Tigmanshu Dhulia (the director) are threatening her by issuing calls from unindentified numbers so that she keeps mum about the same. Also, the actress reportedly received the calls in question while she was celebrating her birthday at the Juhu Plaza Hotel.

Mamta Patel has a forgetful scene in Paan Singh Tomar. She plays the wife of a Colonel Masand to whom Paansingh (Irrfan) gives a packet of ice-cream. People close to Irrfan say that this is just a desperate attempt by the wannabe actress to get cheap publicity. The actor himself refrained from replying to our text messages on the allegation.

Mamta feels she has been exploited, "In anticipation of a meaty role in the film, as allegedly promised by Irrfan, I spent quality time with him on the outdoor shoot in Roorkee (near Delhi-Haridwar Highway). I was with the actor for almost 15 days, but shot only two scenes for the film."

She further alleged, "But I was aghast to find that her role in Paan Singh Tomar was wrapped up within a couple of days. I wanted to expose this exploitation then, but Irrfan reportedly assured me of post publicity and said he would recommend me for roles in his future projects."

Irrfan continued to remain unavailable to comment.

I don't believe it. Nor do I want to believe it. Why now? He's been here since Salaam Bombay in the 80s. Did he suddenly become a rapist out of the blue especially when he started to taste success two weeks after the release of PST?

Actually, though I was initially shocked, I wouldn't have much of a problem believing this. You can't trust anyone in Bwood...no one is completely innocent.

@dexter: I don't think its much about him "suddenly" becoming a philanderer ...more like, it never really came forth if it happened before or, its the first time it happened. Let's not completely rule out those possibilities and dismiss this news. Remember, Shiney? I wouldn't have believed it at that time, but knowing the dirty insides of bwood...it's not that hard to accept something like this.

Shiney had a history. There was nothing surprising about the rape accusation on him...not to me at least. Priety and others had already said he was lewd on the sets long time before the accusation came about. I have never heard anything on Irrfan. Of course, anything is possible...Akshay could be banging Tusshar, Amitabh could be banging Aishwarya, Irrfan could be raping women left and right. But I'm not a blind feminist, the girl isn't always right. Sometimes, people do shit for publicity. The timing is also off here.

In any case, remember that crazy girl that slit her wrists and claimed Abhisekh had married her during Abhi Aish wedding? Yea...that was publicity too.

In this case, I'd like to hear some kinda statement from Irfan to clearify the issue...but really, what am I expecting...for him to confess (IF he did this...) which ofcourse would never happen...why would he dig his own grave.

But the way this woman has given statements with quite alot of specifics, it makes me wonder if it did happen or atleast contains some truth to it. Maybe she did it willingly, without any persuasion from Irfan...many possibilities!

Agreed on the feminist part, its the same with me. I'm more on the critical side and like to weigh both sides before a conclusion. 😳

Don't get me wrong, Ania. Irrfan could have totally done it, he's a man in power after all and the girl is an upcoming starlet. On the flipside though, he could just be framed. Of course we will never find out so until we do we're all entitled to our own takes.
