NOT A FAIRY TALE
PART 18
"The task has been successfully accomplished" said one of the drivers, looking over the bridge, where the car had disappeared. He smirked and disconnected the call and left from there. They never suspected that anyone could swim against the strong current from the river.
They resurfaced some distance away from the bridge on the opposite side to where the assassins were looking. It was almost a 5 minute underwater swim, against the current. Had it been any other person with lesser stamina than Maan, it would have been difficult for him to fight such a strong current. In the middle of the swim, somewhere, he had felt Geet's hold loosening over him. He got alarmed, but he could not resurface so close to the bridge. He had to get farther. So he caught Geet's hands tightly and increased his pace.
Once they resurfaced, he brought Geet to his front, to find her already fainted. "Geet.." He panicked and paddled towards the shore as fast as he could. He laid her on the grass and started patting her cheek.. "Geet..Geet.. utho Geet" He felt her pulse, which was slow and weak. He started pumping her heart. But nothing was happening. He hesitated a little. Her unconscious figure was lying infront of him and water was filling her lungs. Time was crucial here. "Mujhe yeh karna hi hoga" He bent towards her face, blocked her nose and opened her mouth. His hard lips touched her softer ones. The sensation was altogether different, but he didn't have much time to let any other emotion engulf him. He blew air in her mouth, helping her breath. He again left her mouth and pumped her heart. "Geet, please utho, aapni aakhein kholo, Geet, maine tumse vada kiya tha ki main tumhe kuch nhi hone dunga.. please Geet, uth jao" he was panicking. Water started to come out from her mouth. He pumped her heart harder. Slowly she started regaining her conscious and started coughing. Maan's eyes darted towards her and he made her tilt to her side and rubbed her back, to let the water completely out from her body. He helped her straighten and supported her back with his one hand and placed the other palm on her cheek. She was breathing deeply.
"Geet.." he tried shaking her lightly, urging her to open her eyes.
Slowly she opened her eyes to meet his anxious eyes. She could clearly see worry and fear lacing them. "Geet.. tum theek to ho na?" he asked her.
His concern, his tensed expressions, his every action over the past few minutes, utterly confused her. Why would he be so worried about her. Why did her safety mattered to him so much that he risked his life for it. He could have left from there, leaving her in the car. It would have been easier and faster to escape for him without having to carry her. Why did he seem so perturbed at her current condition. Was it just out of sense of duty towards a fellow human being or was it something else.
With all these questions playing in her mind, she did not answer him and continued staring in his eyes.
"Geet.." he again said, this time a little softly, since their faces were too close to each other. He was getting restless by his silence. "Geet please, kuch bolo na. Tum theek ho na, tumahe kahi choot to nhi lagi na" worry and concern heavily coated his face. They both were staring deeply into each other's eyes.
The loud roaring of a truck, at a distance broke their trance and brought back to the current situation. Maan's eyes snapped towards the noise. He quickly got up, pulling Geet up with him. Geet was very exhausted and could not even stand up properly and was about to fall, when Maan supported her and brought both of them behind a tree, hiding them from the view from the bridge. He bent a little, on the edge of the tree, to get a slight view of the bridge, where he saw both the trucks leaving. He made sure that there was no one left on the bridge, before turning towards Geet. Accidently his hand brushed Geet's waist and she hissed out in pain. "Geet, kya hua?" It was then that he noticed blood on her kurta, near her waist. Earlier that area had been covered by her red chunni, so he didn't see it. But now, he could clearly see blood spots there.
"Geet yeh kya ho raha hai. Kahi tumhe goli to nhi.." he immediately bent down on his knees and grabbed the cut end of her kurta to push it up and see the wound. She immediately grabbed his hand tightly, forbidding him from going any further.
"Nahi sir, main bilkul theek hun. Mujhe goli nhi lagi hai. Goli bas chu kar nikal gayi thi issliyia thoda sa khoon beh rha hai. Woh aapne aap theek ho jayega"
"Geet please zidd mat karo. Mujhe ekk baar dekhne do. Goli choo kar bhi nikali hai to bhi choot gehari ho sakti hai"
"Paar sir.." it was true that her wound was paining a lot, but she was hesitating from letting him see the wound since it was on her waist. She looked away from him, still trying to make up her mind.
He understood her hesitation. He got up and cupped her face in his hand and turned her face towards him. "Geet meri taraf dekho" slowly she raised her eyes to look at him. "Tumhe mujhpe bharosa karna hoga, jaise ki phale kiya tha. Main tumhe kuch nhi hone dunga Geet" the earnestness of his eyes gave Geet the courage to trust him. She slightly nodded her head giving him permission to check her wound.
He left her face and again bent over his knees and carefully raised her kurta to look at the wound. He was being very careful to not even accidentally touch her bare waist least she may get uncomfortable. He saw the wound. It didn't seem to be very deep and the blood also had already stopped coming out. But he still needed to clean the wound and bandage it, before there could develop a septic in it. He still touched the wound, very lightly, once to check if it was completely dry.
She drew in deep breath, closed her eyes and held the bark of the tree for support, at the sudden pain she felt, when he touched the wound. He instantaneously withdrew is hand seeing her reaction.
"Geet.." she opened her eyes to look at him.
"Choot jada gehari nhi hai, par mujhe isski ekk baar clean karke dressing karni padegi, varna issme septic ho jayega"
"Paar sir, hum yahan pe dressing ka saman kahan se layenge?"
He smiled at her innocent question "Yahan to nhi Geet, par kahi na kahi se hume jaldi hi dhoondhna padega. Filhaal tumahari chot pe takleef na ho issliyia.. woh.. mujhe.." now it was he who was hesitating.
"Kya hua sir.. boliyia na?"
He looked away from her and said.. "Geet woh mujhe tumahara kurta thoda fardna padega taki woh choot pe na lage"
"Ohh.." Geet could only utter this much. She was surprised and embarrassed at the same time.
Maan, not wanting to make the situation more embarrassing, did not ask for her permission this time, since there was no other alternative to this, grabbed both the ends of her kurta's cut, while still looking away from her waist, and tore it a little, so that the tear was till above her wound. He got up and looked towards Geet, who was still feeling embarrassed to be standing this way in front of him, with a torn kurta, exposing her tummy. One of her hands was grabbing the chunni near her chest tightly in her fist and she was looking away not being able to face him.
He could easily sense her discomfort. He slowly raised his hand to touch her fist, by which she was grabbing her chunni. She instantaneously looked toward him. His intense gaze captivated her eyes and she forgot everything. He loosened her hold on her chunni and brought her hand down. Then he slowly caught hold of one edge of her chunni, at her shoulder and pulled it down, sprawling her chunni from her shoulder till her waist, which covered her exposed tummy, without touching her wound. He broke the eye lock and moved away from her.
For a second, Geet could not process what happened. She was still trapped in the intensity with which he had captured her attention. But after a few seconds, she snapped from her thoughts and realized what he had done.
She could not believe her actions. How could she get affected so much by just his looks. What was happening to her. One man could affect her, she was immune to the charming ways of any man. But what transpired right now, she could not understand. She was also a little take back by the gentleman behavior of Maan. Not even once did he look towards her uncovered waist, neither did he try to touch it. What were his intentions. Was he genuinely this nice and obliging, or was he just faking, like all other men.
Geet's past was not letting her trust Maan so easily.
"Paar Geet, unhone to teri jaan bhi bachai hai na. Tujhe to sachem unka thankful hona chayia" she thought.
Then suddenly Maan came back and pushed her against the tree, crushing her body between his own and the tree's bark. Geet's eyes opened wide and she was about to scream, but he saw her and instantaneously covered her mouth with his palms.
Precap:
"Hume koi safe jagah dhoondhni hogi raat bitani ke liyia" Maan said
