šWhew. My three days of going through the whole forum of 2000+ pages have got my head swirlingš Well it was wonderful, looking through the various posts, as the show and its viewers and its cast, characters, related news etc travelled a huge journey from the 2008 September days to the 2010 days of November. It is quite remarkable and nostalgic I must say... Wish I was also there, but I was busy the only thing I loved- CID and CID Forums. Now am not going into comparisons, as the genres are vastly differentš Well, I was very much aware of the show but I never watched it. Sometimes on a channel-surfing spree, I used to get a glimpse of episodes. I must confess that the episodes I managed to glance at didnt impress me.
Being a seedha seedhi ladki, I didnt believe in bashing it as I had no reason to. But in 2009 I was in my last year of college, and I began to hear about the popularity of this show from my classmates. They gushed and blushed about Mayank and swooned and fainted over Samrat.
I didnt bother, because I thought it's a typical Ekta type serial... So neither did I bother watching it nor did I visit the forum.
In 2010 October I came to UK for my post grad. Alone in my accommodation, I suffered severe homesickness. I missed Hindi language the most despite my not being good in it. Besides I missed my city Calcutta.
Sometimes I watched extremely old epis of CID. Sometimes I browsed other shows which I found boring.
Just as CID Forums helped me out when I was trying to get over my dog's death in 2008, MJHT forums helped me get over my homesickness. And how?!š
I was casually looking through old shows of the IF. (It was a cold December night.) I came across the MJHT forums. To my surprise, I found it unlocked. I was curious about the show, its actors and characters. I searched around and started watching MJHT on Youtube, right from the beginning.
As weeks turned into months, I found myself drawn to Mayur, Samrat, Dia...then Monaya and Rati... Strange that I love Nupur and Samrat, that I love Mohit, Sanaya and Monaya, that I love Mayur, that I love Dia...
Let me start now my character analysis- why and what I loved... I cant describe just what drives me to MJHT... I agree with both critics and fans... (Not bashers tho)
First I will start with Dia Bhushan. After all the show started with her. Everything is connected with her. Navina Bole was just awesome but quite underestimated actor. I wish she was given more prominence, scenes and dialogues.
Dia Bhushan starngely did not irritate me from the beginningš I simply liked her a lot! Yes she was annoying at times, but I didnt find any dislike for her. Probably because I have some traits that she had. (Now which ones am not going to say!š) I warmed to her as she went about being mean with her cousins, having a crush on her best friend, ragging the sisters, bullying her brother, behaving like a popular diva, event managing etc etc. I thought I saw a spark in this character when I saw certain soft sides in her. She was not artificial with people she was close to, i.e. Annie, Jacko, Benji and Samrat. One of the first soft sides I saw was her extreme concern when Gunjan fell into the pool and Nupur exclaimed that she didnt know swimming. Then I noticed lots about her and I thought maybe she will not end Sajan friendship.š
I was right! She did try to bring Gunjan down in Samrat's eyes then tried to keep Gunjan away from Samrat. But she never crossed her limits like Sheena did. A friend who has a crush will attempt to flirt and attract attention but not bodily, mentally and deliberately harm both her sister and her best friend. She did show her uneasiness and displeasure, but was not hyper like Sheena.
Dia's friendship with Samrat was so unique that, when RV entered her life, she did keep Samrat's advice at first.
But then love made her blind, softer and soon led to her downfall, which she didnt deserve.š”
Her acceptance of her cousins and brother, her new friendship with Mayank, her renewed bond with Samrat, her softness for Benji helped her overcome her heart break. And she was back with a bang!š¤
The Morena track showed her fierce protection of both her cousins and Samrat. I really liked the transformation in the character. The change wasnt abrupt or overnight. It was so gradual. Her role in Mayur patch up, Adhiraj-Suhaani fiasco, and other tracks were superb! She showed a strong empathy for all yet remained the Diva that we all loved. Dia remained and remains one of my most fav characters. š
I will never forget her come back after the dreadful accident. I wish Navina along with Abhishek and Jas were given prominent roles in season two... Dia was always the main fulcrum of the show. MJHT started with her scene. All the characters had a connection with her. She brought to Mayank the suspicion about Nupur's reality. I salute Dia, I salute Navina.š
The next important person to come after Dia, was Uday Bhushan, played so well by JasKaran Singh. Uday was an awesome and unique character! Though not my favourite, he had this jolly appeal about him. No other actor could have done what he has done. A big, huge man with a baby heart, strong and protective brother to his sisters when the need comes, a prankster and foodie, a good friend at heart- all rolled into one called Dodo, the famous Dodo.š
His camadarie with all the characters is just sweet. Somehow one does not get tired of him. But I wish Jas was utilised more properly. A simple hearted girl for him could have been a perfect foil. I didnt like how he turned into a buffoon in season two.š”
Dodo was the apt character for lightening tense situations. Deep inside him, he wasnt that dumb. His greatest weakness, besides food, was his family. š Uday's initial days were full of fun. He was the typical sweet brother who accepted his cousins whole heartedly, who accepted his sister's bullying without a word, who was a loyal friend to Samrat and Benji, who despite disliking Mayank had to accept him.š
Uday was a sweet characterš Kudos to Jas, as he showed the rapid progress of Uday Bhushan's journeyš All I wish is that he, his sister and benji were not absent from season two I missed him there!
Uday also had a gentle warm heart. He understood situations and was palpable. He wasnt dumb- just a simple person with a big mouth and large heart.
For Dia, he was actually a perfect brother, not her chamchi, but just a younger brother with a mind of his own. For Benji, he was a constant companion. For Samrat and Mayank he was a friend they adored while taking him as a simpleton. For Nupur and Gunjan, he was their sweet cousin who loved their company, joined later by Dia. I loved the Bushan Siblings!š
So here's a š for Uday, a āļø for Jas. I hope his skills are more utilised!
Skipping Annie and Jacko, who were good, I move on to the next of my most fav characters, Samrat Shergill, played by Mohit Sehgal. š His first scene in the basketball court, his first dialogue were quite good!
Initially I was not really impressed by him- possibly becuase he was a debutante who was learning the ropes of acting. But I warmed up to him so much that today I am his fan. I just love Samrat. He is so cute!š
For me its not his looks but his personality that appealed to me. Initially he looked rather odd, but later both Mohit's acting and hairstyle and dress style improved a lot. But Samrat's personality bowled me over so much that even today I miss him. For me he is the main person of the show. Samrat's attitude, his friendliness, his concern, his sweet behaviour with all and sundry, his tolerance levels, his not crossing limits, his eagerness to spread happiness and friendship, his love guru status, his management of people- Everything was awesome from the very beginning. I fell for Samrat first and then I really started liking Mohit Sehgal. š
Samrat is someone so unique that no other character would ever replace him. He joins the league of my very small list of characters I truly love, of actors I really admire.
A true friend, Samrat's bonding with Dia, Benji, Uday, his unique and healthy, friendly competition with Mayank, his masti and confedential conversations with Nupur, his friendship and then love with Gunjan, his later-brotherly protection for his sister- everything showed what a lovely person he was, a fun person to be around.
š³(Inshallah I get a man like him chiefly. Not Mohit but Samrat. Because being the person that I am, a person like Samrat would be a perfect foil for me!)
I felt a lot for Samrat in many scenes. I laughed and got angry and felt and shared similar feelings with him. When he defended his people, I liked it. First he made friends with Dia's cousins while still being friends with her. Then he slowly brought Mayank into his focus when he realised the feelings between Mayur. Then he tried to be there for Dia and Gunjan when the RV and the Shee-ee-eena situations arose.
I loved it when he helped his friends out- in Mayur patch up, in the marriage fiasco, when Gunjan was shot etc. I really appreciated it when his friends stood beside him through his troubled times. And I felt that Dia, Benji, Uday and Nupur were really his true friends.š
I just hated hated hated it in season two š”when Mayank and Gunjan ill-treated him. I just cant still fathom why they gave him such a treatment. Okay, he drove speedily. Okay the brakes failed. Okay our Nupur died. Okay Mayank lost his wife and Gunjan lost her sister. But to treat him like a killer who has done the accident on purpose- š”No, from then whatever liking I had for Mayank and Gunjan had reduced a bit.
I ardently wish Dia-Benji-Uday were there.
Wow, finally Nupur returned and I loved his saving his best friend. It is true that Nupur would have forgiven him. It is true that SaNu misunderstanding had happened in the past. But Samrat's bond with Nupur is so unique that I loved them.
Samrat is really someone after my heart. I loved him and will love him forever. Mohit Sehgal Thank you for this superb character! š¤
(I feel like changing my name to Suhaani Shergill!! Suhaani is not my real name at all and I have this username because of my created character in my CID Stories! How coincidental!š) (There! changed it!š Username changed because Suhaani Shergill the character is Samrat's sister. Not a Suhaani fan at all!š)
Benji is a sweet character indeed. Inseparable from Sammy-Dia-Dodo, Benji is not a clown but a gentle soul. Abhishek Sharma is indeed a talent. I wish he was given romance and emotional scenes as well, because he is a good actor and I saw a great deal of potential.š
The chubby Benji with a bandana and a wierd clothing never caught my attention at first. I thought he was just a chamchi for Dia and Samrat. š His tricks on the Morena sisters, his banter with Dodo, his getting intimidated by Mayank, Samrat and Dia was quite funny. š
But then I didnt give him much importance. Nor did I recognise him as the former child actor...
It was when he slowly started helping Samrat in his attempts to befriend and help Dia's cousins, that I began to notice him. His comic timing, his comical touches were really good. Later I realised who he was and I was š², thinking, whoa itna jaldi bade ho gaya hain from the KNPH film days??!! š Well time and years do pass quickly!š
Anyway, Benji's antics increased and so did my respect andlikng for him. His weight as well reduced!š His feelings for Samrat whenever Sajan problems cropped up in friendship and later love, his unique elder sister-younger brother bond with Nupur, his being scared of Mayank, his increasing banter with Dodo, his friendship and later feelings and courtship for Dia, his friendly bond with Gunjan- Everything about him was truly wonderful.
What I didnt like was the sudden replacement by Mayank as Samrat's bestie and the sudden reduction to senseless joker scenes towards the last few tracks of MJHT. He deserved much more than that!š²
I really liked Abhishek's acting and for me he was underestimated. Together with Navina and Jas Abhishek was neglected in season two- in one interview, they did say that they were hurt by this action. I felt for them. They were looking so foward to being part of season two. The very last scene with him in the show in season two was not enough
Beenji was not really utilised properly. But still, I admire him. He is quite good looking. He had and still has a lot of potential as both a romantic hero as well as a comical character. Abhishek Sharma, here is wishing you all the best. Thanks for giving us Benjiš
Ab hain humaarein Jhansi ki Rani, Morena Princess, Morena Railgaadi ya express Humaarein Nupur Sharma nee Bhushan. Gosh. š² What a feat pulled by Rati Pandey!š Truly one of my next favs and one of the best characters I have ever seen!āļø
What a change from her previous show! That Rati could transform from a typical bahu to an effervescent college going town girl was really remarkable! I just cant imagine how she did it!
Nupur is one my favs as well! Her character is unique beacuse Inever tire of her bak bak, her accepting and meeting challenges, her nok jhok with Mayank, her typical By God, Mayank!, her mannerisms, her idiosyncrasies, her transformation when she fell in love, and when she got married and when she came back, her masti and mastaana with Samrat, her quick lines exchange with Benji... the list really goes on and on!š
For me she is the main tempo of the show, the main person to whom all the characters are connected, who has always melted the audience's hearts... I loved her jungle days and kajra song. I could not even decide whether to be angry with her when she and Samrat-Gunjan had a misunderstanding. I felt for her in every scene of hers. Had she been a male character I would have loved loved loved her the way I love Samrat!š
Nupur touched all the chords of my heart, because like Samrat, she was always misunderstood. In my opinion no one really understood her as Samrat had done, not even Mayank not even Gunjan.
When she came to Excel, she was positive. She was bright, eager and sweet. But here the catch was that she was not naiive. She was actually a mature person who trying to be friendly was new to the city that's all!š
Her and Mayank's scenes and her and Samrat's scenes were always what I watched out for. She was a fantastic character! And I didnt like the way Mayank twice (no actually too many times) misunderstood her. š” Then the way he ran away from Morena broke her heart- I did not feel mad at her for noy reading the letter, because her heart was broken twice and she was just down.
Her chemistry with other characters was lovely in the Adhiraj fiasco, the Mayur marriage, her trying to adjust to a different life etc was superb and I give her a šāļø
I loved her return in season two. Thank god the creatives brought her back. The channel and the production house were really (š¤¬) for having hurt Rati by dropping her off.š” The season two's darkness was broken the day Mayank heard her voice and later saw her. Whoa, at least an Ekta type flavour wasnt brought, thank god and by god! I loved it when Mayank hit Dhruv, no beat up Dhruv. I loved it when Samrat discovered Nupur in the class on that day! I loved everything... And the flavour was brought back...
Nupur, tussi great ho! š Without you, the show would have š¤¬š”.
I loved Rati Pandey and I will always love Nupur! May she remain the only Nupur ever! And may no one ever replace her charms and personality! No one can do the way Rati has done! No one can create another Nupur! š¤
Mayank. Hm. What can I say! Arjun Bijlani is definitely better that his character Mayank Sharma!š„± I personally am not fond of Mayank, though Arjun is surely a sweet guy! šI liked certain characteristics of Mayank, yet in some places he lost my respect. Initially I liked him, his wits, sarcasm, dialogues, answers for every retorts and taunts, his studious nature, his having a mind of his own despite being aš mama's boy, his determination and maturity etc. Soemtimes his comic timing is super!š However whenever he lost his temper and misunderstood Nupur, I lose all my trust in him. His anger is too much and I dont like it. š²
However after his marriage he definitely improved!š After all being married to Nupur is no mean joke!š I like his warmth towards those in need, his helpful nature etc. His rapport with Gunjan throughout season one and two is really palpable and great.š Then his frenemy relations turned dosti with Samrat is super cool!š Wonderful friendship! Gradual blooming of friendship!š
But all my respect for him vanished when he slapped Samrat. Till Nupur returned, I just disliked him, despite his realsation later onwards. He had realised about his behavior towards Samrat thankfully... Then Nupur returned, and he depended on Samrat. Okay fine. But why no apology after the Dhruv matter was solved?š” Anyway.
I like Mayank but I have strong reservations about him. His relations with Dia, Benji and Uday were always funny and fun-filled and glorious. Later on he became Dia's great pal!š
And of course I love his scenes (the nok jhoks and the romance) with Nupur. And his funny relations with his mother always warmed me.š
Well Mayank is great when it comes to certain things. I forgave him later, of course as I cant stay forever angry with himš Arjun. You have brought a unique character who helps people specially friends out, who is a standing-out character deserving lots of praise.š No one can be Mayank of course, specially with those awesome glares that he gives to gundas like RV, Dhruv, gundas pestering Nupur, the chap who shot Gunjan etc. I am so confused!š Do I like him? Dont I like him?š Well Mayank is such a character that I cant decide over!š
Arjun Bijlani, you seriously have brought me mixed feelings for your character Mayank! A truly well-balanced characterš All the best!āļø
Gunjan Bhushan (much later-Shergill) is what Sanaya Irani is not, definitely.š I am a Sanaya fan hence I tolerate Gunjan and for Sanaya's sake I try to understand Gunjan. For Mohit/Samrat's sake I try to analalyse Gunjan. To be fair, playing Gunjan is a very difficult challenge for Sanaya, I am sure!š
When I first saw Gunjan, I didnt recognise Sanaya as the Sanaya Irani of her previous shows, specially Radha Ki Betiyaan... I was shellshocked! š²At first I accepted Gunjan. I accepted her as a nervous character, a scared person, because that does happen in reality. And Gunjan was not a dumb character thankfully. Studious, talented, quiet and reserved, Gunjan was certainly quite what many girls and women are. But then my dislike crept in whenever she rode roughshot over Samrat's feelings, without hearing him out, without giving him a benefit of doubt.š
But for Sanaya, I would have just not watched her scenes. But Sanaya the actress! Whoa, what a great powerhouse!š² To turn into someone you are absolutely opposite to is no mean task! So a š to Sanaya!
Gunjan, just like Mayank, is quite complex for me to handle. At times she is silly and stubborn, at times she is sweet, innocent and helpful, at times she lectures, ast times she cries and laughs, at times she is stone cold, at times she shows her talents. š
Then many scenes portrayed her as someone pleasant to be around, someone quite angelic (and Sanaya looked really like an angel with specs- Have seen only Priety Zinta carrying specs so well in KHNH, and now Sanaya as Gunjan...)š
I gradually liked her, though not as much as I liked the actress and the other characters. She was okay for me. But of course Samrat definitely deserved her!š
Till the Niel Oberoi track I was fine with her. In this track Gunjan somehow disgusted me for many reasons, chiefly becasue she did not really hear Samrat out.š” I would say she handled the situation very badly, and I dont want to comment.
Then came all those promises that she would never leave him blah blah. Why did she treat Samrat like that then in Season two?š” I just disapproved of her.
Gunjan's handling of the valntine's evening leading to the shooting of her also wasnt apt. Nor was her behaviour with Samrat. Then her constant Di Di Di got on my nerves, just got on my nerves.š”
In season two, she was definitely better yet still was too complex. Uffš” On one hand she was a woman with her own mind thankfully. On the other what type of counsellor was she? She gave all sorts of advice to people yet when it came to Samrat, she crossed her limits. I just didnt like her attitude and actions. When Mayank saw Nupur, Gunjan blamed Samrat. And I wished Samrat would really forget her and move on to someone better... Anyway.
Gunjan is not that bad. It's just that sometimes she really annoyed me and angered me. But of course she was a good person at heart. She herself was a confused soul...š
Well Sanaya Irani, you have really given me shocks after shocks with your character and your Gunjan will never be replaced of course!āļø Sanzz (I like calling her that as if she is another sis of mine!) Sanzz you really rock! š
The other actors had also been really good! Some actors have done their roles so well that the desired impact was fully brought on. Nishant as Adhiraj made me ardently dislike and then later like, Anupriya as Suhaani made me like-dislike-like-dislike-like, the actors playing Bauji, Bui, RV, Sheena, Niel giving me different feelings of different shades of dislike, then other supporting and side actors... Well, this is so far about my feelings about the characters...
Now about the wonderful show and the lovely couples... I will give my feelings about that tomorrow...
Edit- Special mention- Purab. He was an out-and-out positive character. Would have loved to see more of him!!
Anyway.
Now couples.š
My favourite couple will always be Mayur. šKya chemistry tha woh! šThe nok jhoks, the romance, the fights and aplogies (mostly from his side), all their tracks- everything was so down to earth, real, mature, magical, passionate, hot, plausible, possible, mixed, poignant, funny, fun-filled, emotional- everything! I loved this couple from day 1 to the last day. I felt with them, laughed with them, cried with them, sang with them , got angry with them and everything! Rati and Arjun have made their characters click! It could not have been done by any other couple of actors.š Many have tried copying their relationship (Mayur relationship) but could not meet the standard. Mayank and Nupur were just perfect for each other, a perfect, ideal couple! I loved them!āļø
Sajan was a different couple altogether. šTheir chemistry was sweet, flirty, cute. I liked the easy going nature of this couple except the occassional hiccups. I feel I like Monaya chemistry more than Samrat-Gunjan chemistry!š This couple's easy going romance is also unique, and has its own USP! I would not compare it with other relationships...š Sajan romance is also not very complex. It is pure, innocent, slightly hot and more flirty and good naturedš I loved the Monaya chemistry that often came out! Of course, somewhere being onscreen lovebirds helps a lot in carrying out the roles of two lovers. š
Benia partnership could have been more developed. Išt was cute and was just blossoming, with a cute courtship, when Abhishek and Navina were suddenly and unfairly axed from the show.š” It had a great potential, and from whatever I saw of them, I realised that another wonderful couple would have been made...š Well, Benji-Dia will always remain close to me!š
There were other relations too! Mayank and Gunjan were like brother-sister, and so were Nupur and Samrat. I loved the wonderful SaNu bonding, and am quoting my previous SaNu article here-
''Being a latecomer here of course this topic seems outdated... but i just want to pay a tribute to two of my favourite Characters Sammy and Nupsš I just love them as individuals and as friends cum jiju-sali... I love them and always felt for them... I love the (mohit and rati) actors' acting as well... Just awesome... regarding other actors and characters, i would say i like all of them... in this order- dia, benji, uday, mayank, gunjan. among couples- mayur, benia, sajan. among actors- sanaya, arjun, navina, abhishek and jaskaran.
Anyway. am not comparing. am now turning to the topic of SaNu friendship- to whose friendship i have dedicated my new fan fiction to. i prefer to keep them as friends and not siblings. In Indian hindi language television MJHT seems to be the only show (if there are others, forgive me, i dont know abt them) where a platonic friendship between men and women remain so despite a bit of harmless flirting here and there, rivalry here and there, misunderstandings, dislikes, likes etc etc, such as majan, candy-sammy, benji-gunjan, benji-nupur, mayank-dia friendships. for me SaNu is special...
most indian shows end up showing friendships turning romantic! well that is not true always! ya pyaar comes after friendship or friendship after pyaar, but that is situational... i always believe that men and women can remain friends... i have known people like that...
that is one of the many things i loved abt the show...
anyway- SaNu.
At first Nupur and Samrat were not bothered about each other. After the series of pranks, one fine day one of the common things came up-- Gunjan. After much convincing, Samrat manages to take Nupur's help, and her impression of him became fixed.
After that, we saw a deepening bond, however few their scenes together were, the bond increased. Mayank next became the common topic... Slowly their support for each other grew. They understood each other's point of views quite well... Perhaps this is why Samrat always thought for Nupur when it came to Mayank and his conversation about the evolving Mayur relationship. The same goes for Nupur's thinking for Sajan and efforts to get Samrat and Gunjan together...
Their trust in each other was so deep that even others often could not understand them. I hated the creatives' treatment of SaNu relationship in the post mayur-marriage track. Misunderstandings can happen, but the way it was handled was too much to fathom- Only Mayank understood GuNur, SaNu, SaJan problems... I really wish there was a scene where there was a SaNu reunion... But as usual the friendship being a silent deep bonding, every misunderstanding got forgotten when Gunjan got shot. Nupur became protective about SaJan in the face of her father's doubts.
I loved their protectiveness towards each other, their show of solidarity etc. Their next stage of friendship of jeeju-saali bond united them. This bond was so strong that in season two it was apparent that they were lost without each other. She needed to reveal her identity without Majan knowing. He needed her the most, because without her, Sajan relationship and Sayank friendship were strained...
I really felt for Nups and Sam throughout the show, both seasons. Both were misunderstood. Both suffered a lot. Both had faced problem after problem. Both had troubles as well as good moments. But their friendship and support transcended so much that they evolved as winners. Majan ultimately understood Sanu's worth. (My opinion only- no offense...)
The show had several faulty tracks and mishandling of creative decisions. But the platonic nature of relationships outside the romantic relationships were awesome and the way it is...and i loved it when SaNu hugged, crying and relieved, in that classroom, all their frustrations coming out, when Sammy discovered Nupur at her high point of distress... I was actually glad. I loved the way the camera moved towards samrat when dhruv said to nupur that he will see who stops him. It was an eternal short moment when the SaNu bond became extremely deep...
Samrat and Mayank maybe great friends, but the SaNu friendship had a deep foundation, which i loved. I will never compare it to other platonic friendships in the show, all are sweet and nice... SaNu is rather deep, unspoken, silent, and not-in-your-face and that is the magic of it...
The only part i hated was the GuNur misunderstanding track. I was with both the parties but at the same time it was unreasonable...''
Whew! I have talked about my fav stuff... Now a small thing about the show of course!š Each and every background music, each and every tune and character/jodi/other tunes, emotional, funny, pognant, happy, masti, dosti, romance etc tunes, and everything was beautiful!
Among the tracks, I liked the pre-Sheena and Samrat confrontation tracks, the April Fool pranks track, the Morena misadventure track, the Mayur crisis and Adhiraj fiasco tracks, the season two's Dhruv mystery track. The other tracks had odd and brainless bloopers and impossible takes like Mayank suddenly becoming a lawyer for Samrat etc etc. Nevertheless season one was very funny and fun-filled, accompanied by occassional emotional stuff. Season two was unforutanate. Darkened by Nupur's absence, and becoming really odd and silly after her comeback, and full of bloopers.
Anyway. Sometimes whenever I need to laugh I watch all the funny scenes of the show. When I feel like I see a particular track. MJHT is such a show that you can go back and see from any point of time you like.
I really loved the show, and like many fans, hope that a nice season three does return...
Thanks nevertheless Sunshine Productions, Star One and creatives. Kudos and Ciao.
