Sorry again for the delay and this is the whole chapter. Adding the previous installment here so you all can refresh your memory. 'Cuz I had to reread to remember where I had left off 😛

Chapter 17

The sound of two pair of feet's tapping disturbed Armaan. After having enough of it, he looked up and asked irritated, "What?"

Abhay and Pia replied together, "What?"

It was a day later and after school, Abhay and Pia waited for him to tell their result of the long questionnaire they had taken.

Pia asked separately, "So, can we help?"

Armaan 'Hmm-ed.' Pia asked, "What hmm? Is it a yes or no?"

Armaan got up and walked a couple of steps facing his back to them. He then turn to look at them and replied uncertainly, "You know what I find interesting? You both always fight and still get things done when needed. By your answers, it's hard to tell if you were thinking about your own likes while answering the question or the others."

Abhay complained, "What? That makes no sense. What you just said."

He half sat on the bench and asked them to sit as well. They sat on the opposite side and then he went on to explain, "You see, your answers don't reflect each of you individually at all. Based on how much I've noticed you both, it feels like you," pointing at Pia, "were answering questions while Abhay in mind and vice versa. It was as if both of you were conscious."

Pia refused to believe that. "That's silly. Why will I be thinking about him?"

Armaan commented back, "I don't know. You tell me."

Pia got quiet. How could she tell when he was the psychologist, not her?! She looked at Abhay, who looked back at her, and she was ever more confused. Looking back at Armaan, she took up and sighed in frustration, "I don't know okay? That's for you to figure out. Now can I just know if I can help or not? His decision is up to him."

Armaan got up and walked back to his desk. "Fine, I can't find a reason to not let you both. Work starts after your practice tomorrow."

"Practice?" Pia asked.

"Yea, the ball practice." Abhay replied.

She remembered, "Oh yea. That. Well, I have projects due, so'"

"Right." Abhay said getting up and they both left the room and went towards the parking lot. The car disappeared on the road.

The next morning, Abhay caught up to Pia as she walked to her class and decided to tease around a bit. "So you were thinking about me while taking that test, huh?"

"What? No!" she exclaimed, still refusing to accept that. In fact, she had questioned that to herself the night before and realized that she in fact was. Unknowingly, she had been connecting all the questions to Abhay and answering them accordingly. Still, she had decided to not accept that. At least not till she figured out why she had done what she done.

To dodge any other question that he would throw at him, she said, "Uh, I told Maya I'd help her out with the decorations. So see you later."

She ran away from there and Abhay watched her go with a grin planted on her face.

Abhay complained to Pia as she maintained her distance while they practiced, "You think the dance will look good when you're that far away?"

Pia said, "Fine." And took a small step closer to him. "Good?"

As a response to that, Abhay pulled her closer to him, till her stomach was no more than less than a cm away from his. He whispered, "Much better."

Pia looked down, not wanting to look into his eyes. They were too close according to Pia. She let out a low gasp but continued. They swayed to the sensational music playing and Abhay twirled her. Her back now faced him. His hands around her waist and over hers.

She stayed quiet and just let him lead her. She wasn't in mood for heart vs. mind talk and so shut off everything.

Abhay and Pia entered Armaan's room to find unknown people staring back at them. Pia asked, "Uh' who are they?"

Armaan answered, "They're the control group. You guys first have to help me with them and then the independent variable. Just have a look at this and it'll explain everything to you. Meanwhile, I'll run out to my car and get this' yea, you don't need to know. Just don't read anything out loud."

Saying that, he left. Abhay and Pia looked at each other and sat down to read, shrugging their shoulders.

Abhay and Pia read the directions, which seemed a bit complicated at first, but after reading them with attention, they go it. It was very simple. They had to ask them questions about how the other person feels on certain topics and note them down. Different aspects will be then used to look at them and make a conclusion.

Armaan directed Abhay to the single college going students while Pia was given the couples who had fallen in love during their college times. He watched both of them from the difference as they asked questions. 'How did you know you were in love?' 'How did you feel when '?' The questions went on.

Both, Abhay and Pia, were unaware of the questions the other was asking.

Pia asked, "How did you first meet?"

The couple held each other's hand and the boy replied, "We were at a party. It was actually my party and'" Pia didn't seem to be listening to him anymore. Her memory took her back to the first time she had met with Abhay. His returning party' them meeting in his room. The night came back to her.

He brought Pia back by shaking her, "Pia?"

"Huh? Yeah' so'" she asked the next question after she snapped out of her thoughts. But each answer she got, she kept on connecting the events to Abhay and herself. Armaan was noticing it all but kept mum. He had done his work. He had pushed both of them on the road. Now it was up to them to confess. He can't do that for them after all.

Once day before ball.

It was night time and Pia stood by the window and held her pendent that was around her neck. She couldn't remember who gave it to her or how she got it. But she was so used to have it on her since as far as she could remember. Whenever she was thinking deeply, she would always hold it and play around with it. Strangely, it helped her concentrate on the problem.

She got side tracked and started thinking about the pendent. How did I get this pendent'? She surfed her memory inside out but the answer wouldn't come out. She made a mental note to ask Misha the next time they talked and started focusing on the main problem. Her and Abhay. The answers she had given. The way she kept connecting the answers of the couple to herself and Abhay. Why? Her mind kept on asking.

With each question, her heart would beat faster. She realized after a few seconds and she kept her hand on her heart, in order to calm it. No use. It kept on beating faster. She again wondered why.

Why do I keep connecting things to Abhay? He just became my friend. Then whenever I am around him, why do I feel at comfort? Why do I feel safe around him? Why? What is he to me? What is it that I feel when he's close to me? Why do I go in a trance whenever he looks at me? Why? Oh God, please help me. Help me before I lose my sanity!

It's something real. I know that. I can feel it in my heart. What is it? I feel alive ever since I've met you. I can't hide that I feel something for you. Is'is this what love feels like? It's always like these in movies. But it isn't right na? You're my friend. What if you don't love me?

She had realized it was love. She was scared though. What if he doesn't feel the same way? With a troubled face on, she turned to her bed to go to sleep.

The next day, she went straight to Armaan's class. Before she had the chance to speak, he said, face buried in the papers he was grading, "What happened now Pia?"

She sat down on the chair and took a deep sigh. "I don't know."

He looked up. "What?"

"I don't know! That's the problem."

"I'm afraid I don't get that'"

"Ofo! You're the psychologist here. Tell me what the problem is. Why do I feel like this?"

"Feel like what?" Armaan urged her on. He knew the answer. But he wanted to hear it from her.

"So we're going to play this game huh? Just like Nikki! Fine then. See, I think I like Abhay. But I'm not sure. How do I know for sure?"

Armaan widened his brows. See looked at him, waiting for an answer to come.

"Ok fine. Answer in yes or no. Okay?"

Pia nodded and the conversation began back to back. She occasionally stopped to think.

"Do you think about him all the time?"

"Depends if I'm working or not."

Armaan gave her a serious look and she rephrased her sentence. "Okay, yes. Even when I'm studying, his face pops up in my mind."

He tried to not laugh at her comments and continued asking, "When you see something, do you connect it to him?"

"When it's a couple thing, yes."

"Do you think what he would say to something before doing something?"

"Yes. Like you said while we answered those questions, I was thinking about what his answers would have been."

He smiled in victory and continued asking a few more questions. All to which, Pia replied positively. Then in the next minute, he told her, "Then my friend, you don't just 'like' Abhay, but you're in 'love' with him."

It took a minute for Pia to grasp that. When she did, let out a 'huh' as if understanding that. She got up to leave and walked till the door in a trance. Then she stopped and turned around to look at Armaan, who was going back to complete his work. She called out his name, "Armaan?"

He turned to face her and asked, "Yes?"

She simply said, "Thank you." and after he replied with a smile, she walked out.
