Chapter 3
Arnav stood there fuming, angry with himself and this strangers who stood in front of him. Angry at his reaction to her, and this strange need to touch and hold her. Akaash looked at him with a puzzled expression on his face wondering what had made his brother suddenly so furious. "Bhai is everything ok."
Khushi heard the man standing behind but on the left say in a soft cultured voice. They were brothers she thought. She had, had a glimpse of the other man because he was the one who held the lift for her, she recollected the pleasant clean cut face and spectacles. She wondered what the man behind her looked like. The gruff, "Everything fine." Reply said, in a deep husky voice caused her pulse to race faster as it rang in her ears shearing itself in her brain. She shut her eyes tight willing this strange reaction to stop. At that very moment the elevator doors opened and she stepped out gratefully making a run for it.
Arnav stood there trembling with rage as he watch the girl step out of the elevator and run without sparing him a backwards glance. And he was doubly furious for not being able to see her face, but her form, the hair, that soft cream and peaches complexion, her heat and soft floral fragrance was etched in his brain like it was sheared there by fire. His heart was pounding with rage and a strange ferocious desire to stop her and hold on to her. blood rushed to brain making his head pound.
Khushi ran as if her life depended on to, running straight in Mr. Prabhu. Causing him to drop all the files he was carrying, "I'm sorry Mr. Prabhu, I didn't mean to bump into you like that. Here let me help." Mr. Prabhu shook his head, "It's ok Khushi I'll manage." Khushi heard the bling of the elevator indicating the door was going to close she turned around to face it but before she got a good look at the man who had affected her so much the doors closed, what she caught was half of a chiselled face with high cheek bone and a stubble jaw,
Arnav saw the girl crash into an elderly man and a bunch of files he was holding fell to the floor. When the elevator bell rang he saw her turn around, desperately hoping to get a look at her before the door closed, what he saw was the girls silhouette against the window behind her. her hair lose and the slim outline of her figure, another similar vision, but one from his nightmares mashed with the one he saw now making him dizzy his head pounding "Uggh" he cried out in pain slapping his hand to his forehead. And thankfully the door closed. The people in the elevator look at him in alarm. "Bahi!!" Akaash cried holding on to his shoulder.
When the elevator reached the lobby Arnav walked as fast as possible towards the parking lot and to his SUV. He grasped the top breathing hard, he undid his tie and loosen the top buttons of his shirt. His head and heart pounding furiously making him dizzy.
"Bahi are you ok?" Akaash inquired worried. "You're looking pale, what is it?" he opened the car door and pulled out a bottle of water and offered it to his brother. Arnav took the bottle and drank deeply.
"I'm fine just a little tired, didn't sleep to well last night." He reassured Akaash "I'm fine really, come on lets go home." He said tossing the keys to Akaash while he took the passenger seat. He lay his head on the headrest of his seat and closed his eyes. Trying to relax, then it hit him again without warning, visions and images , of a girl hair loose laughing as she ran, the tinkling sound of her payal, the light reflecting of her nose ring. Limpid hazel eyes between the folds of a yellow dhupata, smiling twinkling eyes. The glitter of the nose ring on the girl in the office. A vision of a girl standing by a window; wearing a red choli, the dori's hanging lose exposing her flesh, smooth and silky texture of cream and peaches blending with the memory of the girl in the elevator and her bare back of silky cream and peaches skin. They flashed through his mind like points of light he could not catch or understand. "uggh! f**k, f**k,f**k"
His eyes flashed open and he caught his head in his hands as he bent forward, trying to catch his breath, and ease the headache that started pounding in his brain.
"Bhai are you sure you alright?" Akaash asked worried.
"I don't think so, God dammit this headache. Sorry Akaash could you please drop me home" said leaning back but not but not daring to close his eyes for fear the images might return again.
Arnav struggled to get his bearings and calm he beating heart. He took deep calming breaths. His face was pale and a thin film of perspiration covered his forehead. Akaash looked at his brother with worry. "Bhai?"
Arnav sighed, "It's happening again Akaash, and it's worse than ever."
"What? The nightmares?" Akaash asked alarmed.
"Not just nightmares, now I'm having visions while I'm awake. But they just don't make any sense, everything is so disjointed." Arnav sighed running his fingers through his hair.
Akaash frowned, he knew his brother suffered nightmares, but he knew that they had gotten less when they moved to America to study. But they had not gone away entirely. "Are you sure they are the same ones?"
"Of course they are the same ones. The girl with hazel eyes, the place with all the pots, men and women with no faces. A room, black pillars, a pinnacle of a temple I think, a grove or a forest." He sighed, "I don't know, nothing makes sense, not even a little."
"So what happened right now? at the firm." Akaash inquired.
Arnav thought of the girl and his strange reaction to her, should he tell his brother that he had been incredibly turned on by a total stranger, who's face he hadn't even seen, sheesh! what kind of pervert he might seem. No he could not tell Akaash about that. Maybe the gods will take pity on him and he would never have to encounter that girl again. Yet his heart seemed cringe at the possibility of never seeing her again. He wanted to see her face and touch her smooth creamy skin . He hoped he was not going crazy.
Akaash was looking at him expectantly so he answered, "I haven't been sleeping well, I guess I got a little claustrophobic in the elevator."
"You're sure."
"Yep, I'm fine now, hey! don't tell Mom or Dad about this I don't want them worrying." Arnav said
"Alright I won't tell, but if it gets worse, Bhai You will have to see a specialist or something."
"You mean a psychiatrist, and what good is that going to do." He shook his head. "No I'll handle this myself."
"But Bahi?"
"No psychiatrist, Akaash" Arnav said firmly. There had to be another to solve his problem. He had to find out what it was related to, and for that he had to find the root cause. Some how he felt the girl with the red ribbon was the key to his problem. He'll have to find a way to meet her when he got back from Kundanpur.
