Chapter 4

Khushi walked back to her cubical flustered. What was that all about? Why did my body react in that strange manner to that total stranger. A strange she hadn't even seen or know.

"There you are, where have you been?" Asked, a worried Payal.

"I just went for some fresh air."

"You said you were going to see Rohit." Payal accused.

"Well I didn't meet him. I was distracted and went to the terrace for some fresh air. Now is that a crime." She snapped.

Payal looked at her with wide eyes, she had never heard Khushi talk to her like that before. "Khushi what is the matter?"

"I'm sorry" Khushi shook her head trying to shake away the strange trance like feeling. "I should never have spoken to you like that."

Payal smiled "It's ok."

She sat at her desk and turned towards Payal, "so what is this all about."

"Mr. Kholi was searching for you."

"Why? did he need something, did he seem upset that I was not hear."

"No I told him you had gone to the engineering department. But you know I don't like lying." Payal said twisting her finger together.

Khushi chuckled, "don't get so worried, technically I had gone to the engineering department. Anyways I'll go and meet him now."

"No! You don't need to do that, he has called for a meeting with some staff members, I received a memo and so did you." She indicated Khushi's PC.

"Oh! Ok fine, the meeting is at 4 o'clock." She then turned toward her drawing board and started to work.

At 4 Khushi and Payal made their way to the conference hall, when they entered the room a lot of the staff members were already present, Rohit a tall good-looking man of 25 who was a civil engineer with the company waved to them indicating that he had chairs he had reserved for them. Khushi smiled and waved at him and they made their way towards him.

Khushi liked Rohit, he was her buddy and her backup date, they hung out together if the girls wanted to go to a movie or were invited to a party by another colleague, Rohit was the one to escort them or Khushi alone. He was easy to get along with and he didn't demand or assume she was his girlfriend. They were very good friends and they liked it that way.

"Khushi ji!" Shayam stopped her , "I have a seat for you."

Khushi forced a smile, why didn't this man get the message she was not interested in him. "It's ok Mr. Jha, Rohit already has seats for us." She said hastily and caught Payal hand and pulled her along, quickly taking the seat near Rohit. As Shayam stared after them, giving Rohit an angry glare.

"Did I do something wrong that Jha wants to murder me." He grinned at Khushi.

"Hai bolhenate! That man just does not get that I'm not interested in him. for some unfathomable reason he thinks I'm his personal property. He will show up offering me a ride to the office, on some pretext or another. Last week he showed up at the mall offering to carry my bags." She fumed.

"Yippy! Khushi has a psycho stalker." he gave her wicked grin "you're so beautiful I'd stalk you, if I didn't like you so much."

She grinned back, "very funny."

At that moment Mr. Kholi entered the conference room. And started the meeting. "As you all are aware that out company and a huge project with AR Group of companies. The Kundanpur project, The renovation and restoration of the old Havali and the resort project, so we are sending a group of Architects and engineers and Interior designers to Kundanpur next week, we have selected the names of people to work in the field the rest will work from here on the designs as required."

He went on to read out 8 names of which Khushi and Payal were selected in the interior design team along with another male employee named Deepak, under the supervision of Vishal Dev, the best renovation expert in Delhi, and Rohit was on the engineering team with four other top engineers in the company of which was one woman named Kamya Punj.

Khushi, Payal and Rohit beamed at one another already excited to be a part of such a huge project. While Shayam scowled , he had thought the Khushi no not get selected since she was only 8 months with the company, he thought he should have a word with Mr. Kholi but he didn't want to do it in front of everyone that would annoy Khushi and that he didn't need.

Mr Kholi went on, "this week is going to be hectic, so please prepare your selves." And he dismissed them.

Everybody left the room excited about the new project, they congratulated all the people selected to go to the site in Kundanpur. Shayam stayed behind trying to get a word with Mr. Kholi, "Mr. Kholi could I please have a word with you?" Shayam inquired,

"Yes Mr. Jha, how may I help you?"

"Sir you have selected Khushi Kumari Gupta for this project, but are you sure that she is the right person for such an important job. I'm sure you are aware that she has been with this company only 8 months." Shayam tried to explain.

"Well I have seen Ms. Gupta's work and she has excellent grasp for restoration of old structured. She is excellent at her job, in fact you, yourself have given a very high recommendations about her work, so why are you backtracking now. Do you disapprove my selection Mr. Jha." Said Kholi sounding offended.

"No sir absolute not, it was just because she is so inexperience."

"Ms. Mishra is just as inexperience as Ms, Gupta, you don't seem to have any problem with me selecting her. Is there something going on Mr. Jha, something that I am not aware of?" Mr. Kholi asked sternly and with annoyance.

"No not at all sir." Said, a flustered Shayam.

"Well then get to work." Said Mr. Kholi and walked away.
